Is breakfast really all that?

I'm already getting up at 6 am in order to get to work so I have trained myself out of breakfast as I like my sleep. As long as overall calories / macros etc. for the day are met, does it much matter that I don't generally eat on weekdays until lunchtime?

    No...

I love breakfast, but it's not magical or anything...the whole jumpstarting your metabolism thing is pretty much *kitten*.

Not really. I eat 3 meals and a snack, but my first meal is generally not consumed until about 6 hours after waking.

If it isn't a big deal for you to do there is no "metabolic" reason to avoid skipping.

Personally I can't possibly imagine not eating something early in the day, but that's just me.

I don't do breakfast. My tummy doesn't like it. If you get the right amount of calories and nutrition, who cares what time of day it is. :)

Glad to hear it. the "most important meal of the day" and "kick starts the metabolism" memes were nagging at me so I thought I'd ask.

As long as you're eating and feeling fine, I wouldn't worry about it. I eat once I get to work, around 9, because if I eat at 7am when I get up, I'm starving later, but I'm usually not too hungry until around 9 or 9:30.

Do what you like. I usually leave home at 6:00 and am at the office 12-25 minutes later. I certainly don't eat before I leave as I first need a decent amount of tea to get awake. So at my desk I usually have 2-3 mugs of tea and then eat my breakfast around 8-ish. Lunch is from 11:00, thus that's fine with me.
  • Breakfast does jump start your metabolism, but it doesn't matter at what time you eat it. If your first meal of the day is lunch then technically it is also your breakfast because you are "breaking your fast". I personally love eating breakfast because it's delicious, but you are right, it is not a necessity for a healthy lifestyle.

If you are functional and not hungry until lunchtime then I don't think it matters if you eat later. If you spend 6am- lunchtime feeling tired, hungry, distracted, etc then you should just consume something before lunch even if it is a piece of fruit, some cheese, a granola bar, or some trail mix.
