Why did you come to the conclusion to lose weight?

Mother grabbing my leg and saying "you need to do something about this".
I weighed 50 kilos lolllll9 -
I saw myself in a reflection in a window and was horrified! I knew I was overweight but hadn't realised just how much, I'm 342 pounds and have now realised I desperately need to do something about it.8

I kind of had two moments. The first was just generally regarding fitness. That happened after a conversation with my brother. He's 2 years older than I but we're so similar people have thought we are twins all our lives. Anyway, the conversation was about his latest physical and the fact that he had been put on medication for both high cholesterol and high blood pressure. He was 42 at the time and we were both 70+ lbs overweight. That got me thinking about not wanting to go down that road any sooner than I absolutely had too. Fortunately, that conversation coincided with some friends and my wife convincing me to try cycling. I did and got completely hooked.
Fast forward about 4 years and now I'm an avid cyclist and bike racer, I'm physically in much, much better shape, and I've lost around 30 lbs just from riding the bike. So last July I decided to take the cycling up another level and started working with a coach. That led directly to my second "ah-ha" moment, regarding my weight specifically. I decided that if I was serious enough to need a coach then I needed to be serious about the extra weight too. I'd been a MFP member for a while but started logging the day after my first meeting with my coach and I haven't looked back. I'm down over 30 lbs from last July, I'm about 17 from my goal weight, I feel much better, I'm faster on the bike (especially when the road points up), I look better than I have in years, I'm wearing size 30 and 32 jeans and medium shirts comfortably for the first time since probably my teen years, and I'm not the "The Fat Guy" on group rides any more.
I'm hooked and don't intend to ever go back.15 -
I'd been in denial about weight gain (I blame yoga pants), until I went to the doctor's office, weighed in at 216. I'm 5'4".
I've always been big, but my line in the sand was 200 lbs. I'd always said I'd never get there, and there I was.
That was in 2010. I started watching what I ate very strictly and walking more, and now I am in the 150s. Have a few more pounds to lose, but I'm so glad that I took action back then.18 -
I'd wanted to lose a small amount of weight for a long time, but it hadn't seemed worth the effort. I tried to lose weight a couple of times, and was sort of successful, but then a stressful college semester caused me to put on more weight than I was comfortable with. At that point I decided I'd put more effort into it, because doing it on and off wasn't working for me.2

The biggest size in my favorite clothing store no longer fit me. Also, I saw pictures of myself in an evening gown. Hello there, whale squeezed into a sausage skin.10

I'll admit that mine was originally for vanity reasons. I looked in the mirror a few years ago, and realized that I was "fat" and didn't like that ; so I became obsessed with looking like the girls/women on TV and in magazines.
Really stupid looking back at it. And vain. So vain.2 -
I had to strain to tie my work boots. Really simple but I never had that feeling before and immediately stuck to a plan for the first time ever0

A picture of me at a baby shower was posted on facebook. I was standing next to the mom-to-be and I was actually bigger than her. At the time, however, I'd just had a baby 9 months earlier. I knew it was time to lose weight!!!1

It was 4th of July last year and I was going to a party. I had these denim shorts I loved and when I went to put them on I could barely get them to button AND THEN THEY RIPPED after I took a few steps! I took a hard long look in the mirror and then got on the scale and saw the highest number I had ever seen before. That day I downloaded couch to 5k and joined MFP with the encouragement of my best friend. Fell off the wagon once and put on 10 pounds of the 20 I lost but am back and 22 pounds lost as of today. Add me if you'd like I'm on here every couple of hours!10

Hello,
When I'm dressing in the morning to go to work and I'm struggling to dress my pants because they don't fit.3 -
i just woke up one day and decided it was time. I guess I just got sick and tired of always being sick and tired!9

I knew I needed to, but the kick in the pants was my wedding photos. I actually looked fat in them, and that really bugged me.2

Two (unplanned, but still devastating) miscarriages and a declaration by two doctors that I was maybe a few % points of body fat away from diabetes, so to speak.
I got tired of feeling tired, of feeling sore (not for the right reasons) and being sad.
Now my cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar is way down, I'm out of the danger zone and I'm working on slimming down to a healthier weight.8 -
I gained almost 40 lbs after being on Prednisone for almost 4 months for a lung infection last year. I ate every thing I could get my hands on. Every couple of weeks at the Dr I would step on the scale and it was up 5 lbs every time. Everyone kept saying don't worry, you will lose it when you get back healthy again but I was dragging my feet about dieting. Then my boss took a picture of me at work this last Thanksgiving and that was the first time I had seen myself in a picture since I had gained it. Internally I was like 'OH MY FREAKING GOD"!!! I was fat. There was no 2 ways about it. I had never weighed more than 155 lbs and now was almost 200. My only child graduates in May and I plan on being back down below 160 for that because it will be lots of picture taking and I can't avoid the camera for that!2
