Seems like no matter what diet and exercise I choose todo and stick with awhile,I start feeling better and looking better but then boom something comes along and I just quit and I really don't know what that something is most of the time..maybe I will always be surcome by food, the worst thing about it is I disgust myself when trying to put clothes on or looking in the mirror after a shower..I do have a couple of health issues such as high blood pressure, cholesterol,i never have any energy and if I happened to get a burst of energy I better take it and run with it because its not lasting long..i need help I need motivation,I NEED SOMETHING OR I WONT LIVE FOR ANOTHER 30 YEARS!!! HELP!

Hello there. I'm not done with my diet yet but let me try to help you out. I used to weigh somewhere around 400 pounds when i was 18 (!!!) now i am almost 20 at around 230 pounds. And now the worst part is starting im constantly between "Maybe i should quit now and stay like this" but as soon as i eat something bad like candy i get disgusted with myself again and then do a week or hardcore dieting and then go back to candy ... rinse and repeat but around 4 weeks ago i noticed something. Dieting, loosing weight and working out... it won't give effect in a week you don't have to think about dieting as "Ugh i have to do this for weeks now and then i can stop" but you have to think about "I will change my life loosing weight will just be a good side effect".
So what gave me alot of motivation was that i got insanely embarassed walking up stairs with my friends and they had to wait for me while i was almost suffocating at the top and i guess this was my "fat moment" when i realized i had to change.
So what little help i can offer i'll write now:
Never get bored... trust me boredom is your WORST enemy because coming from a guy who used to be overweight i ate alot when i got bored so whenever you feel bored, play a game, walk the dog go to the gym or just take a walk
Don't think you'll loose everything in a day, don't think of a diet as a nuisance think of it as changing your life to the better
and the last thing i would say is join a group, like a gym class group (sorry for the english i'm german so i might not have the best english), or a sports group like water sports or aerobics it'll be fun and you'll even make new friends
I hope i atleast gave you a tiny bit of motivation
Never give up,
Daniel

The only person that can motivate you is you. You are in control of what goes into your mouth, what activity you participate in, logging accurately and consistently. Nobody can do it for you. Nobody can stoke the fire in you to do it.
Tired of starting over? Stop giving up.0 -

*******pure speculation beyond this point******** I think for me, it was like living in the abstract. I kept telling myself that I was the outlier, that I was the fat one who would still be healthy and live a long happy life. I told myself it didn't matter and that my superior genetics would overcome my terrible diet and complete lack of exercise. Then I had somewhat of an epiphany one Saturday when my 7 year old son wanted me to go outside and throw the ball with him and I told him, no, I am watching tv. He went outside and began throwing the ball up and catching it by himself. I watched thought the window a minute, felt like *kitten*, got up and went outside with him to throw. I have never looked back. When you stop believing that you are different and you really are killing yourself slowly, you will do what it takes to take control of your life. Until then, you will keep making excuses. That's what I did anyway. Maybe you are the outlier.0

Stop dieting and make a lifestyle change. Caloric deficit equals weight loss. This is ALL that's required! Go get it!0

You say you have high blood pressure and cholesterol...I'm fairly sure that once you start a healthy lifestyle and stick with it, those problems will go. Plus you'll have more energy.
As above, make it a lifestyle change, not a diet.0 -
Losing weight is not just dieting. There are many associated aspects that contribute to weight gain. Don't spend most of your time close to snacks and food where you may be tempted. Have a regular job or vocation so that you are not bored etc.
Remember, this is a marathon. Most of us here have stopped and started again many times. You should not feel self-pity or self-loathing because you exceeded your calorie limit. Just start again. I would suggest keeping a calendar on your fridge and mark every day you stayed within limit and every day you went over it. That will keep your focus on your goals.0 -
