I feel the macro percentages are wrong in the pie chart. For breakfast I had 8 grams of fat, 33 carbs, and 29 protein. The fat shows 21% when I believe it should be around 11%. Fat % always seems too high. The others seem wrong also. Any ideas?
The reason is that fat provides more than twice the amount of Calories per gram than protein and carbohydrates.
Calories consumed = Calories from (Carbs + Fat + Protein + Alcohol)
= g Carbs x (4 Cals/g Carbs) + g Fat x (9 Cals/g Fat) + g Protein x (4 Cals/g Protein) + g Alcohol x (7 Cals/g Alcohol)
In your example:
Total Calories = 33g Carbs x (4 Cals/g Carbs) + 8g Fat x (9 Cals/g Fat) + 29g Protein x (4 Cals/g Protein)
= 132 Cals Carbs + 72 Cals Fat + 116 Cals Protein
= 320 Cals Total
Percent from Carbs = (132 Cals Carbs / 320 Cals Total) x 100 = 41%
Percent from Fat = (72 Cals Fat / 320 Cals Total) x 100 = 23%
Percent from Protein = (116 Cals Protein / 320 Cals Total) x 100 = 36%
The calculations will be slightly off due to rounding.
