scale reads different on carpet or tile?

I have been weighing myself in the bedroom, which is a non-fluffy wall to wall carpet. But I put it on the linoleum bathroom floor and it read a few pound lighter. Is this a thing? It's not a digital scale.

    I always put my scale on a hard, level surface. Sit it down and push on all the corners to make sure it is level and doesn't wobble.

    Yes it is a thing. Put it on a hard surface ... tile, cement, wood flooring, linoleum. Then do all your weigh-ins from that same location.

    ^^^^^ Yep, don't use it on carpet. You'll get much more accurate readings on a hard level surface

    Scales definitely read differently on carpet-- They say always go with the hard surface! (Though my digital scale read significantly lighter on the carpet-- almost 20lbs so. A pound doesn't sound like much, especially if you have a consistent over-all trend from doing it on the carpet.)
