Hey everyone,
I'm a soda drinker, and feel like I should start kicking the habit. I've found some recipes for fruit flavored water, but was wondering if you guys had some good suggestions?
For anyone who may not know what I'm talking about, here are some good examples/pictures.
Thanks in advance!

I have no suggestions for this topic. I allow my self one diet soda every day so I only kicked the non diet soda
I drink a little over a half a gallon of regular plain water all day every day.
I had rather eat the fruit (except the cumber) and then drink plain water. Seems like a waste of fruit to me..

I love soda water with lemon. The fizz hits the spot for me just as well as a soda.0

^^ Yup! I drink a lot of soda water with a dash of lemon or lime juice. I bought a Soda Stream and use it multiple times a day.0 -
I can't give up my diet soda but there are a few fruit water that I've enjoyed. Just plain ol' cucumber water is great, as well as strawberry-basil and watermelon-basil.0

My wife does that because she has a hard time drinking a lot of water. Seems like a waste of good fruit to me. Gets soggy.0

I will infuse water with veggies or fruits or herbs. put some cucumber slices into a water bottle and leave it in the fridge overnight. Yummy. You can do it with anything. Fruit: Lemons, sliced strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, cherries, grapes. Veggies: cucumbers, celery, ginger. Herbs: thyme, basil, rosemary, mint, lavender.
I will often use cucumber slices with mint. Then I eat the cucumber slices as a nummy minty snack. Mint (no calories) according to the nutritionist I saw as long as you use to infuse but don't eat the leaves.

I am gonna guess I will get the "chemical...eww" response but MIO. Just a little bit in a lot of water makes it better. I really cannot drink unflavored water and I agree with gia...I would rather eat my fruit0

That does sound good! I'll have to try it. I picked up some basil seeds and will start planting, hopefully I can use my own basil for this!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Have you ever tried cantaloupe or honey-dew melon? I think the flavor would be great, but not really the texture.

I have thought about this! The lemon/lime with just soda water. I'll have to give that a try.

Do you mean water down the soda?
I figured I could slowly kick my habit by adding more water to my soda each day until it was eventually just water, but I'm not sure if that'd work?

@gia07 and @GoldspursX3 I think some people will eat the fruit afterwards...sounds like that's what @draco706 does? Depending on how soggy it is, I might try and eat it, too! lol0

The biggest problem with store bought drinks is all empty calories from the added sugar. Its not just soda, its fruit juices, sports drinks, even some of the milks/alternatives. There is no reason you cant enjoy these things in moderation, but you do have to be sensitive to and cognizant of their content, just like everything else you consume.
If your goal is to replace with something healthier, switch to fruit juices, etc, and get some nutrition with your calories.
If your goal is to reduce calories, then lower cal options. These would include diet drinks ( soda, crystal light, etc ), infused waters, no sugar added, etc.
As an example, lets look at V8. Fusion is the full calorie variety of their blend, while Splash is the reduced cal version. You know how they make Splash ? They dilute it 50% with water. You can do the same with your favorite drink ... apple juice, OJ, Kool Aid, etc ... I used to do this, 1 cup OJ, 1 cup Fusion, and 6 cups water. All the good nutrition, and getting my oz. in for the day too
Lately, since ive been reducing sugars/carbs, ive switched to making brewed teas, and using those to flavor my water jug. Same principal, make as normal, then add to jug for daily sipping while at work.
