    A virtual race is a race that you can run anywhere and, usually, any time. For example, I paid my fee (which, in this case went to a fellow runner) and pledged to run a 5k sometime between April and the end of July. I generally do them if I can't find a local race I want to run as it gives me incentive to make those miles happen or if I really love the medal.

    Here's an example from a virtual 5 miler from Gone for a Run:

    That is pretty cool, I never heard of that. Love the socks!

    So I went out and looked at some of these, very cool. I love that the money goes to charity (at least for the ones I looked at). But I did notice some say they give 10% of the profits to charity and others give 85% and more so I guess you need to watch who you are using. Very neat.

    Very true. Some of them are purely for the medal, while others raise money. Sometimes you have to really read into the fine print.

    Wow that was a lot of reading! It is SO hot here in NC, and we had a heat wave this week. I did 6 miles yesterday and it was so hot. I have noticed that it definitely slows me down a bit. In general, I don't like to run after 8 or 9 AM.

    6/2 = 4.2 mi
    6/4 = 4.12 mi
    6/6 = 13.1 mi (Race 13.1 Half - 2:16:51 finish time)
    6/9 = 2.23 mi
    6/10 = 5.01 mi
    6/12 = 3.01 mi
    6/14 = 6.01 mi
    Total = 37.68

    Not quite on track to finish the month out... I've been running with a friend again, and she is struggling. It has slowed me down a lot and some days I have ended up doing much shorter runs than I wanted to because she had to stop. Yesterday I ran a little ways with her but was able to keep going without her... felt kind of bad, but what can ya do? Hopefully I can get caught up this week!

    I saw one on Facebook that I believe is still in the planning stages. It is being planned for a runner's son who was a police officer and killed by someone texting while driving - I will post the info if I ca find it.

    Still a little off, but I needed to get back into running after a week off. put in a 5k for 34km this month. Need to start upping the length of my runs I think. Have a three day weekend this weekend so I'm hoping to get in 2 10+k runs.

    Been a busy busy weekend so I am getting caught up on all the posts here, again...
    @Aresende90 - How did it go running with the jogging stroller? I can't imagine how all the moms manage to run with one or even two kids plus the weight of the stroller. I look at them with such admiration!
    @kimlight2 - Congratulations on your first 5K! Yep racing can be so much fun and very addictive!
    @caratayloruk - Great job getting that run in with terrible weather and a great pace too! Soon that hill will seem like nothing, well maybe not but it will be easier :)
    @7lenny7 - have you tried rolling out the ball of your foot on a baseball or one of those rollers made for your feet? They work great at working out the little bits of tightness I have there. I don't let Hobbes run offleash but I use a waist leash so he has some room to move. He also stays right next to me but would love to go visit with EVERYONE people and dogs if I would just let him. The Forestry rangers will also ticket us if they catch you with your dog offleash because the trail goes through a protected bird sanctuary(even though it is a cement channeled river and there are coyotes that roam there. He knows he is supposed to sit when I stop and sometimes it happens and others he needs a reminder.
    @autumnblade75 - congratulations on the PR! That is an awesome time!!
    @mwyvr - YAH New Shoes!! Which shoes did you get? Where's the picture? I had to send one pair of mine back to exchange for a different size and I am anxiously awaiting their arrival! I don't wear my minimalist ones without socks. Just thin ones to wick the sweat away!
    @JoRocka - Great job getting your run in and done even when the body said no way! Love the pictures!
    @SBRRepeat - Nice job on your trail race!
    @WhatMeRunning - I am going to get me a Fanatics shirt for the reason you mentioned- it would be a great conversation starter at the races. I always enjoy meeting and talking to the other runners!
    @missmelis98 - Even if the time was not great you completed it and I hope you had a great (muddy) time!!
    @skippygirlsmom - Love the picture of Macy in the pool! Maybe Hobbes needs to get together with her so she can teach him how fun it is to swim :)
    @juliet3455 - congratulations on your race and a great time!
    @MrsKGrady - congratulations on both your 5Ks and getting a PR too! Love your pictures and the 'Bad *kitten*' socks!
    @RunTimer - I love Lake Merritt but never ran there. How far is the loop around the lake?

    @shanaber :smile: Thanks!
    In my opinion the lake is both the jewel and the pit of Oakland. The loop is 5k (3.2). They have organized runs every 3rd Sunday (5k, 10k 15k). Great flat terrain if your looking to add distance or time to your routine.
