Hello everyone,
My wife is having sleeve surgery on July 20th and will be starting her liquid diet prep July 6th. They have her doing the Unjury diet plan. The plan is laid out well in regards to what she can and cant have but I was wondering if anyone who has been through this in the past had any tips or info as to ways to help her fight cravings and get through those two weeks. I will be doing the diet with her to help support her so I'm also interested in seeing the responses.
Thanks!

Every person (and many doctors' plans) are all different. I did unjury before my sleeve surgery. I found it tasted best made with skim or fat free protein enhanced milk and a bit of ice. Having a ninja or good stick blender is a necessity IMO to get a good consistency. I wasn't on a full liquid diet before my surgery, instead my doc had me do 2 shakes a day and then a sensible dinner (4oz lean meat, 1/2 cup grains, veggies).
I think the best things you can do is A) toss all the trigger, can't have foods and get them out of the house. understand that the liquid diet can be hard, especially preop when you don't have the hunger reduction working in your favor yet. C) Keep your eyes on the prize- this isn't a time to go out for one final hurrah- you're making lifelong changes D) don't be shocked if what works/tastes good preop doesn't work postop. I did unjury and liked it quite a bit preop. I had to force myself to gag it down postop, it was too sweet for me. Premier Protein became my go-to drink to get me through the liquid phase post op.
Additional note on Unjury: Get a food thermometer for making the chicken broth- it means it when it says to only heat to X degrees- if you let it get warmer, the texture goes funky and gross very fast.0 -
The unjury website has a variety box of flavors, a shaker and a thermometer which is a nice way to try the flavors.
I had to just constantly pump myself up, read lots of success stories and weigh myself daily...seeing that number go down almost daily kept me going.
Just know that this part is temporary! Get rid of the tempting stuff and keep your eye on the end.0 -
SWG0203 - Congrats on going through the diet with your wife, it's a big help and can be fun. My wife is losing weight with me simply because we've cut carbs. The pre-op liquid diet was the hardest part, post surgery I had no cravings (still don't really 8 months out - but I did treat myself to an ice cream cone last weekend!). I didn't mind the shakes, and I recommend adding ice and blending - it makes them thicker, tastier, and more satisfying in my opinion.0
