Should I Change My Activity Level

I have been steadily losing weight since January 2015 with 27lbs lost.

I got a Fitbit and built up the steps where I have been walking 10miles (25k steps) at least 5 times a week.

I changed my activity setting from sedentary to lightly active. Is this correct? At the moment, I do no other exercise, just the walking.

    It doesn't really matter. You're just moving how exercise is accounted for from one bucket to another.

    IMO, if you are progressing on track toward your goal, you're probably eating the right amount. If not, you probably need to adjust what you eat up or down.

    The risk seems to be double accounting. If I understand correctly then either stay with the sedentary lifestyle but link Fitbit to transfer the exercise calories burnt, or change to an active lifestyle but decouple the Fitbit.

    Enable negative adjustments.

    Set yourself up at the highest activity level in mfp.

    Leave a buffer if you are not active late at night or sleep before midnight cause you will get a calorie reduction after you dip below the active expenditure rate when you stop moving around.

    Or stay at the sedentary or lightly active levels and continue to have large adjustments at the end of day.

    It is a matter of preference of how you prefer your adjustments to happen.

    I personally prefer a smaller rather than larger end of day adjustment. I have not yet had a day where I logged 15750+ steps and did not get a positive adjustment. Negatives are commonon days below 12500.


    You should cross reference to your actual weight loss to see if these estimates are correct for you.

    While for many people their Fitbit tdee estimate is correct, in my case I believe it is overestimated by about 5 percent so eating my full fitbit adjustment results in a slightly slower weight loss than what I've dialed in. Which is perfectly ok for me!

    all good advice. Enable negative adjustments and nothing to worry about.

    Personally, I prefer to leave it at sedentary so the fitbit adds calories. I hate seeing negative adjustments!

    i dont use a fitbit (just putting that out there)

    i am at a minimum lightly active and in all realty probably active. but i leave mine at sedentary. I figure it helps cover any inaccurate logging or forgotten 'bites' of things or overestimated calorie burns, etc. I lose a pretty steady 2 lbs/ week so I'm good
