Diet change to improve autoimmune health and weight loss

Hi all,
I started changing my diet a few weeks back because I think the inflammatory nature of sugar is affecting my health. I have celiac disease and a couple of other autoimmune diseases, plus in the last year I have gained 20 lbs and developed osteoarthritis in my knees and hips that is galloping forward at an alarming rate. I'm only 41 and coach a few sport teams so this needs to stop. Since doctors can do nothing, I thought I better work on my diet.
I eat too much sugar and love pop. Overall I eat pretty well, but my body can't handle the sugars so I dropped them entirely and I am working all following a ketogeni diet.
The first couple of weeks have been hard but I starting to feel a bit better and settled into this way of eating (and lost a few pounds too). I'm always happy to chat with others who are working towards better health - it's always motivating to hear from others.

I have Lupus, and let me tell you, decreasing sugar will most definitely help you feel a hell of a lot better. I've only drank water since shortly after being diagnosed which helped a lot, but trying to eliminate added sugar from my diet within the past month has decreased my flares significantly. It's definitely something that sets off any autoimmune disorder.0

That's great to hear that it has worked for you! I was second guessing myself because shortly after changing my diet I had a flare-up (fluish, arthralgias in shoulders, etc) but it was mild and is waning already. I hope it was just my body having a bit of a shock that sugar was gone.

i need to cut the sugar then. I have lupus
