Thanks @Lauriek70, someone reminded me yesterday it takes three weeks to make or break a habit. I've walked five days a week for the past three weeks so at least i have that going for me!

I started out just walking 1.0-1.5 miles a day, partly because its been in the nineties for weeks now, but mostly to get myself used to making the time for walking.

This week i plan on walking two miles or thirty minutes each day.

Best of luck to everyone this week!! Stay strong!!

Colleen be careful walking in the heat and don't push to hard. How long are you walking now? Are you counting miles by time, steps or actual distance using a phone app? You can also plan on increasing your walking time by 5 minutes each week if that helps. The other option is to increase the pace you are walking but mix it up with faster and slower. This will build up your endurance and tolerance for the heat.

I had a good day but no exercise. I did not feel like swimming this morning so I cleaned the house instead. I am just now starting to find the cleaning groove. Yesterday, I managed to clean up my room and clear a few things out. Today it was the larger rooms that got a cleaning. I did have friends over for dinner tonight and that was fun and relaxing. I opted to do this before my dad comes home, less stressful. It was a small party just a couple of friends plus my brother and SIL.

I am also excited because my friend Amy, wants to start working out my trainer and me. This will be fun. I will learn her goals tomorrow when we go bike riding. She knows my trainer so that is helping in this process. But it will be nice to have a workout buddy during the winter.

Happy Saturday to you all! I was going to walk to my community garden today, but the rain has beat me to it. I decided to re-organize my kitchen! My husband just rolls his eyes. But I did make a positive change, and took a 6 shelving unit that was was on the kitchen counter and put it somewhere else. It lightens up the kitchen a LOT. Plus I put all my food in the shelving unit that is by the entrance to the kitchen. So I have cans of fruit/pastas/snacks/cans of veggies/proteins like beans and PB2 and a shelf that has medicines I don't use on a daily basis. I put a shawl that matches the livingroom rug so I am like..Awesome Sauce! My husband said, "well as long as I don't have to rummage around that shelving unit its all good". Vitamins and his pills are on the top. I like to organize things can you tell?? For me it calms me and I know where I stand in my world.

@becca-- I also like things organized, but my DH is really bad at keeping them that way. He's very clean--in fact, he probably does more of the housework than I do, but he has a weird sense of where things should go, and it's hard to get him to put things back in the same place every time.

@colleen-- making the time to walk or run is often the hardest battle. Glad you are making it work.

@aug-- It's so great to see you back!!! Sounds like you've been very active lately, I bet your doggie appreciates it.

    @robin-- great pictures!

@laurie, lori, niki, and robin-- glad to hear you are all thinking of coming for the Shamrock Shuffle. I went ahead and booked 2 rooms for Friday 3/18 through Monday 3/21. They are both suites with one King bed and one pull out sofa bed. They didn't have any rooms with 2 queen beds, so this was the only way to accommodate 4 people/room.

@laurie-- I had planned to ask Brian to join us in March. I will see him in October for the 5k we do together every year.

@lori-- I don't need any hotel deposit. I was able to reserve the room with my credit card, but they shouldn't actually charge me prior to the stay. Occasionally, the downtown hotels DO pre-charge, but usually that's only if you book them through expedia or travelocity or one of those sites. That drives me nuts b/c you can end up paying interest on the charge for months ahead of your stay.

    Saturday Success:
Well, one success is that I got the spare room all prepped and ready to paint. Picked up paint this evening, so I'm good to go tomorrow. :) I picked a very pretty turquoise blue color.

    2. Take 4 bags of books and binders to school DONE
    3. Drop off donation to GW

YES!!!! Only 10 little pounds form the first100. My journey has defenitley been a case of slow but steady but I am okay with that. Every time I stalled out and didn't slide mor then a few pounds backwards showed me I am making changes I will be able to sustain forever. This girl is SOOO happy today :):):)
    Have a great day everybody.

I think men do that on purpose, so we WON'T ask them to do anything. Its being stupid on purpose kinda. Of course I re-arrange things differently every now and then to keep my husband and son guessing!!
Down 1.4 lbs today (doing a happy dance in my head!)

Today was busy and I still have more work to do tonight. Luckily, I went bike riding this morning so that helped to get moving this morning. Tonight ended by having dinner with my dad at the nursing home. We took him for a ride this afternoon then picked up dinner. I hope he realizes that he needs to do more walking before he comes home. He could be coming later this week if he keeps walking and working on getting up and down. Now that includes getting in and out of cars.

Short check in tonight since I still have a few things left to do. Have a great week.

Hi, Sunday share. I'm Kaye, 71 years old, married 50 years with 7 kids, spouses, and 15 grandkids. I started this 3 years ago, did really well the first year, so-so the second. I'm back pedalling right now, gained 10# from March to June. Life got complicated and I gave myself permission to quit logging. Big mistake. I am having trouble getting back into the habit. Right now I'm just treading water and trying to take care of my husband. He had a very bad fall 3 weeks ago and is dealing with major concussion and other head injury symptoms. He is making some progress. He was able to go to sacrament meeting today. It took him all morning to get ready for a 12:30 meeting. I had to help with buttons and shoelaces as he seems to not have much dexterity in his fingers. But he made it. Our home teacher took him home after the meeting so I could teach my primary class. I have talked him into using a cane. (Score one for me.) His legs are difficult for him to control, especially his left leg. His walking looks like a controlled fall waiting to happen.
@Robin loved the pictures of your vacation.
    @becca the kilt is super.
@laurie I hope things settle down for your father.
@laurie and @karen I'm feeling the pressure of school starting too. I'll have kids part of the time this next week while Nicole gets the POs done for her libraries. Then school starts full on for her the following week. The kids start on Aug. 24. My summer hasn't exactly been a restful one.
@jtconst Congratulations on being so close to your first 100.
Thanks to all of you for your concern, well-wishes, and prayers for me and my husband.
    Onward and downward. Kaye

    Happy Sunday to all
@Annr - Thanks for sharing the pic of your handsome hubby.
@Lauriek70 - Hope all goes well with dad.
@jtconst - The 100 is so very close. You are doing very well. It will come to you.
@colleen_mairead_xo - Good for you on the walking. Another of my mfp friends lives where it is hot, she walks very early in the morning to avoid the heat. The dedication will pay off nicely for you.
@Bigaug - Welcome, I am not sure when you left but I have been here for just over a year. I look forward to getting to know you.
@NK1112 - I cannot have boxed cereal in the house. Not only do I over indulge but I do not tolerate milk very well and I always have too much milk with the cereal.

AFM: Today was my first day off since June 21st. I enjoyed every minute. A friend called this morning and I ended up going kayaking. There is a pretty large lake about a mile from my house. Water was like glass this morning. We went for an hour.
I did take a nap today followed by making two pies. It has been a long time since I made pie crust from scratch and it turned out pretty crumbly. The pies taste great, cherry and blueberry. Hubby and the boys will have to eat most of it. Overindulging is a real danger with those in the house.
I hired an office person one day a week. She was an intern a few years ago. This will take some of the stress off me.
Hubby and I are about the same. Boys are doing the same as well.
I am still in counseling and things are moving forward albeit slowly. I am feeling the days getting shorter. I will start my vitamin D this week. My week is pretty busy at work. The workout schedule is a little tough as well. I will plan some time for me in there so I can have some balance.

    Love to all,
    Lori <3

@lori & niki-- I also don't keep cereal in the house anymore. When I first started on MFP 4 years ago, I discovered that one of my biggest weaknesses is frosted mini wheats. After about a year of not having it in the house, I bought a box and a carton of light soymilk (I don't drink cows' milk) and tested myself to see if I could limit myself to one bow/day. I did it, but it was really hard, so I find it easier to just not buy it anymore.

@kaye-- I'm glad your DH was able to get out of the house for a bit today. You really haven't had much of a break this summer--I'm sorry that it's already time for you to take back the responsibility of watching the grands again.

@laurie- hope your dad continues to work on his walking so he's ready when they send him home.

@becca-- Haha. My DH is guilty of doing that with laundry. However, he does the majority of the cooking and cleaning, so he's not trying to get out of anything when he puts things in weird spots in the cabinets. He just really doesn't care about keeping them organized. Instead, he always moves the things he uses a lot to wherever he wants without thinking about the fact that I won't be able to find them when I need them. Perhaps he thinks I'm the one putting them in the wrong place...

@tammy-- congrats on getting close to your first hundred!!!

    Sunday Share:
For the new folks, I'm karen. I'm a HS English Lit teacher from Chicago. If you haven't figured it out from my lists #1) I really like lists  and #2) I'm doing some household de-cluttering and re-arranging while I'm on summer break. Primarily, I'm moving my large work desk into the larger of our 2 spare bedrooms, so that I might actually use it.

Today, I finished painting the spare room. I felt kind of bad for not getting out to the gym or even to walk gunner (DH took him), but then I looked up the calorie burn for painting and wow! Both healthstatus.com and MFP's database calculate nearly 900 calories for 2 hours of painting. It probably took me closer to 4, but I only logged 2 to err on the side of caution.

Tomorrow, I will start getting the room back together. Need to re-hang some shelves and then move the smaller desk into the room.

I haven't listed a lot of formal exercise goals this week, but will have a lot of active rest days cleaning and moving stuff around.

    Tuesday Goals:
    1. Clean off work desk DONE
    2. Take 4 bags of books and binders to school DONE
    3. Drop off donation to GW
    4. Move work desk into other spare room DONE
    5. Clean window treatments DONE
    6. Paint DONE

    August Goals:

    Run another 8k (Thanksgiving 2014 8k = 56:49, NYE 2014 8k = 57:47, 1/25 = 55:41; 2/28=55:15, 3/29 = 59:15; 5/9 = 59:16; 6/22 = 59:10)

    Exercise Goals:
    Sun--paint spare room
    Mon--walk gunner
    Tues--walk gunner
Wed--walk gunner + gym or run outside
    Thurs--walk gunner
Fri--walk gunner + gym or run outside
    Sat--walk gunner

@RobinsEgg Gorgeous! I love Estes Park!

I was considering the surgery but it is no longer an option with my new diagnosis. Mastocytosis means that I can be allergic to anesthesia just the day I have a surgery, but not the day before or after. I am no longer allowed to have any surgeries that are not life and death necessary.

Hello everyone! I am back from my two different vacations and ready to be "good" again. Actually, I'm up 4 pounds and I'm pretty sure it is all water retention based on how poorly I monitored my salt intake (lots of sunflower seeds while at the lake and while driving). Since I missed it yesterday, I'll do a quick Sunday Share:

I'm Tracy. I am 42 years old, live in Bismarck, ND and work as a quality improvement specialist in the life insurance field. I work out of my home and have been with the same company for almost 18 years. Wednesday, I will celebrate 20 years of marriage with my husband, Michael. We have two children - Jacob (14) and Emma (9). I love to travel and after getting married 20 years ago, started a goal to visit all 50 states. I'm not as far as I'd hoped for, but that was partly caused by paying so much money for infertility treatments to have our son and adoption fees for our daughter. I always tell them my job is to keep them safe because they cost us about $18,000 a piece and I can't afford to replace them -- HAHA!

This summer, I added Colorado to the checked off list. So far, since 1995, I've been to 20 states (and I can't just drive through them...actually need to do something there). I had been there a couple times before I got married with my parents, but I did check white water rafting off my bucket list while there. After Colorado, I was home a week and then spent a week at a lake in northern Minnesota with most of my extended family on my dad's side. We had 49 people there and spent time golfing, tubing, boating, poolside, beach, volleyball and marshmallow "fluffy bunny" contests. It was fun to see some cousins I haven't seen in a while. I was also happy that while I tubed everyday and got "dumped" by the driver of the boat, I was the only person in my family that didn't need any ibuprofen. We unfortunately forget that we are all getting older and the wipeouts hurt a bit more than they used to.

Today, my goal is to get back into the habit of drinking water instead of alcohol (during the week at the lake, it is easy to slip into drinking margaritas by the pool instead of water). I will also be going to the gym this week, but not today -- I am waiting for a text announcing my new niece has made an appearance. My sister went into the hospital this morning at 5:30, so prayers for a safe delivery and healthy baby and mommy.

Well, I look forward to catching up with you and getting back in a groove. Have a great Monday!

Monday check-in ... forgot to weigh myself this moning as I was rushing to get to an appointment ... and now I've already eaten so the weight won't be 'true' anyways .. will check in on Tuesday morning instead this week.

Something came into my email from the Mayo Clinic that I thought would be good to share ... reprinted below ....

Hunger vs. craving: What's the difference?

A better understanding of these potential food triggers will help you stay on track.

Have you noticed that when food temptations strike, it often has more to do with your mood than when you last ate? You may crave food to relax, relieve stress or boredom, soothe anger, or cope with loneliness, sadness or anxiety. Indulging in cravings during these emotional times may lead you to eat too many high-calorie, sweet, fatty foods.

Everyone has a food craving at times — and yes, chocolate is at the top of most people's list. The first step to managing your cravings is being able to identify when you’re truly hungry. Learn how to recognize the difference between a craving and hunger.

    Cravings:

Are usually for comfort foods, such as chocolate, sweets and fatty foods
Are often caused by negative feelings
Lead to eating that makes you feel good at first, but then guilty
Increase during a woman's pregnancy and menstrual cycle
May be stronger when you're dieting, especially if you're giving up your favorite foods
Can occur even after you've recently eaten
    Pass with time

    Hunger:

Usually occurs when you haven't eaten for a few hours or more
Results in a rumbling stomach, headache or feeling of weakness
    Doesn't pass with time
Isn't just for one specific food
Can be satisfied by a healthy snack or meal

If you have a craving, distract yourself. Try calling a friend, listening to music, taking a walk or bike ride, reading, or writing. If a negative feeling is causing your craving, use positive self-talk, exercise or a fun activity to improve your mood.

@cblue315 and @skinnyjeanzbound I have no problem with dairy ... lucky me ... because it's one of my staples in the fridge... It's either 2% milk or 2% yogurt for me, every day. However, not usually on boxed cereals. At one time, however ... that was my go-to breadfast before I got wiser (never had any sweetened cereal in the house, ever, I always figured there was enough sugar in the regular stuff.)

@tlh0407 ...nice vacation pictures. Glad you had a good time.

@jtconst ...so close! that's such a big 'rush', isn't it. Proud for you.

@Annr ... your hubby is cute in that kilt.

My Goals for this week ...
1 - Finish what I didn't finish in chore goals from last week.
2 - Make my mom's recipe of stuffed green peppers and stuffed cabbage leaves, make a soup this week, and cook salmon for tonight.
3 - Don't forget the Sunday School volunteers meeting on Saturday.

    Have a great week everyone.

@tlh0407 gorgeous pics! I had to laugh at what you said about the cost of your children and keeping them safe. My teenage son always tells the boys they better be careful because they cost us $50,000. I tell him not to say that because I have no idea if they really understand our sense of humor yet, but it makes me laugh inside.

    Goals for August:
    -log in every day
    -move every day
-eat clean 90% of my intake
-drink at least 88oz of fluids a day
-enjoy this journey I am in, fixing food that delights my palate!
-Hug all that are open that that form of greating
-Go to bed with my husband every night.
-cuddle before going to my side of the bed!

I have been doing all these things for awhile but its nice to see them down on paper..well digitally.

Thanks for reminding me of this. As I am really reducing my caloric intake, I listen carefully to what my body tells me. Analizing this realistically and not just "giving in" is the definition of Perseverance!
