Fluid Retention

In bed with my feet propped up. My ankles looking like cankles, and toes looking like lil beef smoked sausages. This is why I've been so dizzy and unsteady on my feet. Even my ears have been popping from fluid. I've lost some weight so far since I've started working my new job...not sure how much because I don't have a scale, but my clothes are feeling loose. I think I'll weigh myself soon. But I was wondering what can I do to get rid of this fluid.

My ankles swell up if I have a lot of high sodium days and/or I don't get enough sleep.
How many calories are you eating? How long have you seen this swelling? If it's been more than a couple days, seeing your doctor would definitely be best, especially if you're feeling dizzy too.

Considering your symptoms probably best to ask your doctor.0

Please see a doctor those can be dangerous symptoms in regards to your liver and who knows what else. A quick trip to a 24 hr clinic or hospital would probably be your best bet. Please go0

Those are the exact symptoms as well when I had toxemia during one of my pregnancies and by the time they got that bad I was monitored daily and on strict bed rest because of the dangers of high blood pressure. Please please go0

Please see a doctor.0

If my ankles swell up, it sends off alarm bells that I may be experiencing blood clotting again, and my DVT has returned.
I'd be going to see a Dr.0 -
There are many different reasons this could be happening. You really need to get medical attention. We could only guess, and that wouldn't be remotely safe.0

Thanks everyone. This didn't start until I started taking my high blood pressure meds. One of the effects is swelling, which I hate because I feel like it's adding to the weight gain. And I am nursing so I can't take water pills. The doctor said once I stop nursing, she'll prescribe me something else.0

Another option would be to contact the pharmacy where you got the prescription and ask the pharmacist what their thoughts are on alternatives. They obviously won't be able to prescribe you anything, but they have a much greater understanding of medications, interactions, side effects, etc. than the physicians do. Particularly if they are your regular pharmacy because they will have all of your previous prescriptions and can look at the bigger picture.
Pharmacists can be a great resource, and then you can speak to your doctor about their suggestions to see what she thinks. At least you will go in armed with some additional information.0 -

Go to the doctor and tell him/her what you are saying here now. The internet is not the place to get medical advice.0 -
Thanks again everyone. My doctor advised me to drink more water, take a vitamin, change my diet and lose more weight. And of course to keep taking my meds. Since I'm a nursing mom, she feels like this is the best meds. I need to stay away from soda and caffeine as well as way the sodium. I had been making some changes, but I guess it wasn't enough. About 8 years ago, I was in great shape and taken off of my meds. I hope to do that again soon.0

Sounds like your doctor is on top of things but I would ask more questions. Has he/she done liver and kidney function tests recently? Do you have a history of anemia? Compromised kidney function and severe anemia also can cause swelling in the extremities. When I had cankles, it was anemia but others I know had kidney and even heart/circulation issues0 -
I would be contacting my doctor, not the internet.0

The only issue I've had was very low potassium and my calcium levels weren't too great either. I was put on supplements a while back. I'm suppose to actually hear from her next week concerning my blood work. I'm hoping it'll be okay. I really don't like the meds I'm on though. Too many side effects to me. I'm going to stay on top of it though because I have four kids that need their mom.1stladyserrano wrote: »Thanks again everyone.
