Uncontrolled Snacking Causes?

Today I had my first day of uncontrolled snacking. It was like I could not stop until I ate something I needed. Confession, I ate a good cup full of Chex-mix snacks...it was not even good! Then later I had a handful of cashews. I went ahead and ate my nightime snack too. I ended up skipping lunch because I was not hungry. What causes people to eat uncontrollably? What are your thoughts?

Not logging everything you eat. Honestly I think logging and really seeing how many calories you eat is the best medicine for overeating

What are you eating/logging? Your diary is closed. If I'm snacky, it's because I haven't eaten my main meals and am not fulfilling my macros.
Are you cutting yourself short of cals? Is your calorie goal too low?
You'll have to experiment a bit with macros and see what makes you feel most satisfied. I need lots of fat/protein/fiber...or else I'm starting to stalk the kitchen for snacks.

Thanks for responding! It was a usual morning, I had coffee, usually I have tea...then I had some cottage cheese with peaches...we only had 4% cottage cheese, I usually eat 2%. I ate it, but it did not taste good like the 2%...it was not spoiled, it just tasted different. I know ...I am crazy or something...I think it was the cottage cheese...is this possible that it might of been the cottage cheese? There are more snacks in the house now...now, that the holidays are here...maybe, I am feeling cheated that I do not get to eat them? This could be it? I do feel some resentment that I shouldn't eat them....Oh! I did nibble on some MM's with nuts in it to this morning, I forgot about those. My diet is closed, open to friends only.

My calories are 1200 day, all of this snacking started after breakfast, just before lunch and then the snacking stopped. I did log uncontrolled snacking. Maybe this stopped me from going further with the eating....I don't know...I am just glad the snacking stopped.

Well maybe you should eat some meals and swear off snacking for a few days until you break the uncontrolled snacking. I think it's a good idea to track sugar and bring it under 15g for a few days, this worked for me.

It could also be that 1200 calorie limit. To be honest, when I was that low, I was so snacky all the time. I committed to working out more to eat more and have been eating more and finding that I feel full longer and much more satisfied with my ability to fit in some treats each day. How much are you losing per week and would be willing to consider slowing this a bit or increasing you activities to compensate for a higher goal?

I have not been snacking since since I started MFP. I will try keeping the sugar under control, good idea. I have noticed when the sugar is out of my system...I do not crave the sugar like I use to. I do know that I need the protein or I will get hungry. I only snacked this one time this morning....I was almost out of control, I could of probably eaten more...I am really glad the urge passed quickly. I am trying to remember what I did that stopped the snacking....all I can really think of ...is that I need to log this snacking! Maybe, that is what stopped me. I have not been drinking my water for several days either.

I have lost 13 pounds in over 45 days or so. Maybe I need to drop back to losing only 1 pound a week during the holiday instead of 1 1/2 pounds a week. I haven't been going on my short dog walks during the morning either...it has been too cold! Lots of factors to think about...in all the changes that are going on.

Food Diary is open for a few days, then I will resume the private setting. I just changed my diary goal setting to lose 1 pound a week. I almost gained 300 calories a day! Now, this might help a lot during the holidays! I have noticed with my new eating habits, especially when eating out...I stop eating when I am full. Which is really nice, no guilt about leaving uneaten food from me.

I have found that I get that full signal much earlier too. Yes, it is a matter of playing around with it until you find what's working for you. If this was a one off, and you don't normally get this way, maybe just keep an eye on it for now. If you find it is occurring more frequently, then make some changes. It all takes time. Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on this though.
