Sounds awful, but is surprisingly good.

    1 x pork loin
    1 x 2L bottle of root beer
Put pork loin in crockpot, pour in root beer, cook all day (about 8 hours). Remove pork loin, cut off fat, shred/pull the pork loin.

Add whatever you like (or not). I like a little Stubbs BBQ sauce or Carolina Gold BBQ sauce - eat it right out of the bowl.

I'm no nutritionist, but I think so (mostly lean, "white meat").

Not sure what the root beer would add (by being cooked in it) - probably some sugar/carbohydrates.

BBQ sauce adds some sugar/carbohydrates as well (sauce & amount dependent).

    Soda-chicken

    1 small chicken
1 12-oz can of Sprite, 7-Up or other lemon-lime soda
    Diced carrots, onion, potato, celery

Place all ingredients in crock-pot, pour soda over top, cover and heat on lowest heat setting 4-6 hrs. Serve straight up or with your choice of BBQ sauce.

    *****

    Honey-chicken

    2 lbs. boneless chicken
    1/4 cup ketchup
    1/2 cup soy sauce
    1/2 cup honey
    1/4 tsp. garlic powder
    1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
    1 tbsp. oil
    1/2 cup diced onion

Place chicken in pot. Mix sauce ingredients together, pour over top of chicken. Heat on low for 4-6 hrs. or on high for 2 hrs. Remove chicken from pot, shred. Add 1/4 cup water and 4 tsp. cornstarch to the sauce still in the pot, stir. Add chicken back to sauce, heat on high for 10 minutes. Serve over bed of rice.

Sodium is rather high, but otherwise low-calorie, high-protein.

I cut up chicken, throw it in the crockpot with a can of black beans and a bottle of mild salsa, let it cook for 5 hours then serve over rice. My kid also eats it in a tortilla, like a burrito
