Hi! I'm looking to lose a little fat and tone up (mostly my stomach area). I've joined a gym and I've been once a week every week since I joined (i want to aim for twice a week). I don't want to 'diet', more just be aware of what I'm eating and make healthier choices. I love food and sweet treats and often I'll have a healthy lunch then I'll have lots of goodies and ruin the healthy streak. I dont really want to banish all chocolate from the flat because I do enjoy it but if you have any tips/advice to help me stay on track that would be great! thanks

you don't have to "diet" no one does. but you have to know how much you are consuming and how much you are burning. That is the equation that matters. So Calc your daily calorie burn with a slight loss built in..*google it there are calculators out there AND MFP will give you a goal as well* Then Log and yes.....just accept it...weigh your food.0

There is no such thing as tone, it's a word used to market fitness related videos to sell.
One can lose weight by eating in a deficit while retaining as much muscle as possible. To do this progressive resistance training and 1gr of protien per LBM lb is needed at minimum while hitting your minimum macros and staying under your true TDEE.
If you have a sweet tooth, you should incorporate thst type of goodies into your diet. Hitting your macros is important as a go as l to do this. I eat roughly between 400-900 cals a day of ice cream, but I make sure I have my protien and .35 grams of fat per body weight. There is absolutely no reason other than health issues to obtain from certain foods.0 -
If you can't or don't want to get them out of the house, put things you tend to binge on in a cabinet you don't look in or a box you can't see through. Just having them in eyesight or visible on a shelf is a trigger for many.0

I'm the same as you. I eat my meals quite sensibly but fall down on the chocolate, the biscuits etc. The only way I don't eat it is literally if there are none in the house.
What has helped is planning our meals better so we aren't in the shop every day. We go shopping for food on a Monday (for Tuesday-Friday) and then either a Friday evening or Saturday for the weekend/Monday.
Monday to Thursday is strictly no chocolate, cake, biscuits etc. We'll maybe have a small bar on a Friday and then buy a larger bar for the weekend and maybe some biscuits but on the understanding that if we scoff it all by midday Saturday that's our lot for the weekend.
I also find exercising helps a lot too. If I've put a massive effort in going for a run, I tend to not want to undo all that by eating 300 calories worth of chocolate in 2 minutes0
