I like the recipes on this site - http://www.theyummylife.com/Refrigerator_Oatmeal
Or I start with that site and make some variation of it based on what I have...0 -
For me it's one cup of flavored Greek yogurt, 33g of steel cut oats, 2 tbsp of milk, and whatever toppings I like. I've tried so many supposedly delicious variations and I've been disappointed every time... chia seeds are just weird and with plain Greek yogurt it just tastes too sour, and artificial sweeteners just leave a bad aftertaste.0

Do you add frozen fruit ever, if so when do you add it? Do people heat up their oats or do they eat them cold out of fridge0

Cold oats don't work for me. I just add boiling water, stir & cover. I use regular oats, not quick.A few broken walnuts along with cinnamon sugar.

I've tried a bunch of overnight oat recipes. I just find it kind of weird and I don't care for the texture of the uncooked oats. I guess it's OK if you really have zero time in the morning.
I also like my oatmeal hot. It only takes a couple minutes to make hot oatmeal. I mix half and half quick oats and regular oats, add fruit/nuts/chia and a little honey/stevia/maple syrup (vary the combos daily). Pour boiling water to cover the oats, put a plate over the bowl and let sit for 2-3 minutes. Stir and enjoy. I've made this in a pint mason jar to take with me in the car. Fits nicely in the cup holder.0 -
I don't mind them sometimes... I love hotel bircher muesli (the original version of "overnight oats") but I'm pretty sure they have a big whack of cream in there to make them so delicious.
I'd make them pretty much like this recipe: http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/7168/bircher+muesli
though I wouldn't add the apple juice, if it was too thick I'd add water or skim milk.
You can vary the amount of nuts/seeds to decrease the cals if it's a bit high for you.
Edited to add: I definitely wouldn't heat these up, I suspect the yoghurt would go very nasty.
If I want porridge (ie. hot cooked oats) I cook them on the stovetop with half water/half skim milk and add apple and/or banana plus nuts/seeds and cinnamon.0 -
From a Scotsman who knows his oats. When it's cold - plain oats, boiling water and 10ml honey - but NOT runny honey in a jar. That's just bees fed on piles of sugar. Add a wee bit defrosted berries on top.
When it's warm - oats and seeds of your choice, soaked overnight, grated apple, natural yoghurt, chopped toasted hazelnuts and a wee bit honey on top
In both cases, followed by good coffee!
