Only 3 pairs....and I'm debating if my wife will let me get away with a 4th....my first pair is at just over 100 miles...That means it's time to look for a replacement, right???

@MobyCarp My husband thought I was crazy for running in winter with a cold but I swear running makes me feel better and clears it all out :)

I'm calling 3 hours cleaning the church my exercise today. Did that to help a friend whose mother passed away yesterday. All that mopping was good for my obliques! When I announced after dinner that I was skipping my workout today, my husband said "It's about time!" I'm not sure what that means. But he says to order myself the Garmin heart rate strap for Mother's day so yay! But I'm kinda scared of what I'm gonna learn about my heart rate

Haha. Some are pretty old though. 2 destroyed Asics pairs are from 2008.

HR monitor ordered. Plus another UA tee. Because I wanted free shipping. You can never have too many of those either though! I only have 2 in-use running shoes (and 2 cross-trainers for indoor workouts and about 6 more athletic shoes for walking/shopping/whatever) but the "active wear" I own is getting to be insane.

    @ROBOTFOOD 21 - 4 = 17 Functional shoes @ $100.00 min = $1,700.00 minimum Active Shoe investment.
The True value is Priceless as the health benefits far outweigh the financial cost.
I Bow to your Shoe Collection. That is one Crazy Collection of Shoes Dude - Good on Ya.
    Looks like I need 10 more pairs B) .
My local Running Store keeps sending me little Teasers such as this pic
    rzqjwhjkxwd3.jpg

Now if our Running Shoe closet's could look like that we would all be very happy runners.

I'm just as bad with running clothes too. Someone take my credit card!!

I have 5 pairs active in rotation not counting my trail runners that I use just for agility. I also have 3 pairs in retirement that I just can't seem to part with and my 1st pair of Skoras may join them (love them so much but they have so many miles on them!).

I needed some things at the mall for my trip to Dallas next week so I went this afternoon (I hate going and only go under duress). I didn't find any of the things I needed but managed to spend over 2 hours looking at running clothes in various stores. I didn't actually buy anything but it was touch and go for a while

@orphia - lol, I've got shoe envy too.
@shanaber- sounds a like typical shopping trip for me.

I have 4 retired shoes and 3 in the rotation but getting ready to retire one of those. Why is it so hard to throw away the retired shoes? Just can't do it. I better learn how - this is just from a little under two years running, I can imagine as the years go by the retired collection will be too much.

4/1- 5.1 miles in the rain
    4/2 - rest/travel day
    4/3 - 34 miles on bike
    4/4 - 5.1 miles (intervals)
4/5 - 5.1 miles - intervals (although slower than yesterday)
    4/6 - 22 miles on bike + Strength training
    4/7 - 4.2 miles - slow and steady
    4/8 - strength training
    4/9 - 34 miles on bike
    4/10 - 50 miles on bike
4/11 - 5.1 miles - recovery run from all the biking + strength training
    4/12 - 4.2 miles
4/13 - rest day (biking rained out).
    4/14 - 4.8 miles
    4/15 - sick day
4/16 - 4.2 very slow miles (feeling better)
    4/17 - 35 miles on bike
    4/18 - 5 miles (intervals)
    4/19 - strength training
    4/20 - 4 miles + 24 mile bike ride
    4/21 - 5 miles
    4/22 - strength training
    4/23 - 34 miles on bike
    4/24 - 50 miles on bike
    4/25 - 3.9 miles - recovery run
    4/26 - 5.2 miles - intervals! Or Fartleks.
    4/27 - 4.2 miles + 24 mile bike ride
    4/28 - rest day
    4/29 - 5 miles - intervals. + strength training
    4/30 - 5 miles - fartleks - GOAL!

@MobyCarp Re: marathon recovery -- Personally, I always get sick after a marathon. Running keeps you pretty healthy and boosts your immune system, but then a marathon takes quite a toll on all systems, and after a the race your mileage decreases. I just plan to spend the week after a marathon succumbing to all the illnesses I fought off while training. That sort of forces me to recover, because I feel like crap and don't want to run anyway!

    Totals According to Garmin): 85.5/60

Notes on today's run: Today's assignment was a long run of 50-75 minutes, I didn't feel right only running for 50 minutes when my weekday easy runs are all 5 miles, so I went for the 75 minutes, ended up running 1:14:32 and 7.05 miles.

Decided to try running on a local trail today. Got TOTALLY turned around and ended up going the wrong direction and having to pull out my phone and use the satellite map on Maps to figure out my way back. This let to some much faster than planned running because, when I get distracted I tend to run faster.

Also, it turns out that my Brooks Glycerin 13's make pretty good trail shoes, despite not being made for it...However, I now need to get some trail shoes.

@MobyCarp - Running generally helps a cold for me too. The only exception was last summer when I overdid my training and made a cold much worse on a 16 mile long run. Between the accumulated fatigue and the cold I was down for a couple weeks. I never truly recovered my pace and strength because I still ran the marathons I trained for (although at a very slow pace). It wasn't until I stopped running for a few weeks after those marathons that I recovered.

@Orphia - That smoothie looks pricey!

As for shoes, I'm currently at 9 pair in rotation after yesterdays bonanza. So I am not quite at "shoe junkie" status yet, but headed down that path perhaps. I guess the day I catch myself putting on a new pair in a public bathroom to wear home hoping the wife doesn't notice is when I should worry. Currently I'm only at the stage where I'm stashing the 2 pair in the car that I bought last night to sneak in while wifey snoozes in this morning (Guess what I'm doing after posting).

Oh, I didn't mention this earlier, but I also picked up clothes. Basically extras of the items I like best of all I've tried the last year or two. So I got 2 new pair of Nike running shorts, 3 new UA compression shirts, and 2 packs of Adidas boxer briefs (TMI?). The only thing left to order is more Injinji midweight crew socks. That will be done after smuggling in the shoes and clothes from the car.

@MNLittleFinn - I have run trails in Glycerin too and was surprised at how well they worked. Definitely get some real trail shoes though. You may also want to look at something with a lower drop, but I would not go full on to zero drop, you need an adjustment period. A lower drop can help the ankles on the trickier parts of trails.

This scenario rings a bell. Sometimes I just wait a few weeks to wear something, then when my hubby says "More new running gear?" I can say "No, I've had this awhile."

@WhatMeRunning was looking at Brooks PureGrit 4 for trailshoes, they have a 4mm drop as opposed to the 10 on my Glycerins
