    I'll add to all the very well reasoned points on this thread that people want hope. Weight loss is not easy, and people come up with these "miracles" that give them hope that it will be easy this time. Of course it is not.

    The miracle for me was asking my size 2 foodie friend of 25 years how she enjoys so many cocktails and amazing meals that she photographs endlessly and stays so tiny. She informed me that she's an obsessive label reader and spent years weighing out portions. She is now, at 50, an expert with her eyeballs and math. She works hard, she plays hard, and her portions are in check. She indulges in amazing food and drink. That was my epiphany. I've had how many meals with this lady and I never once noticed her portions?!?!
