So while riding on the KATY trail tonight I ran into a guy, Richard, who is cycling across the USA from LA to NY as part of his around-the-world bike trip. He is doing 95 to 100 miles per day. I rode with him for a few minutes and got to tell him the local trails stops, where to cold camp, etc. He has a website...

Well that's more like it! Sun shining, bike gleaming in the sun after a thorough cleaning at the weekend, which left it looking almost as good as the day I got it, and certainly am awful lot cleaner than it's been for a long while. Amazing how quiet it was as well - I must have got used to an awful lot of clatter from the the chainset prior to this - turns out chains are silvery colour not black - who knew?4

I got back in the saddle last night and I think the apathy I felt about my last ride was just a weird fluke and I'm now feeling very excited about biking again. Ended the ride with a volleyball match with some friends, and it ended up being a great evening

I got in 12.4 miles this morning. Dang mental milestones reminding me of past rides, before I got sick, egged me on until I found myself at the end of the trail. The problem with trails, at least ones that don't loop, is that you have to go back home.3

I agree...I go 30 to 45 minutes one way, turn around, repeat.0 -

6/21 - 25 miles - stopped at the farmer's market on the way home and picked up some sugar snap peas, then stopped at home, changed into my swimsuit and biked to the lake for open swim. Gorgeous, calm waters today, which was a nice change from Sunday's choppy weather.

1st: 72.8 miles

3rd: 22.2...needed an easy day
4th: 72 miles...mailed my bike from Wisconsin to Georgia (I own 5 bikes so it's pretty easy)...got to ride even when on vacation: Second ride: 18.8 miles
5th: 2 rides again: 43.3 miles and 21.5
6th: Easy day...tired from the past three weeks...1 hour on the spin bike...so 15 miles I would guess...150 watt average
7th: 61 miles...only one ride today
8th: 18.8 miles...easy day, back home
9th: Two rides...one hour in the morning on the trainer so around 20 miles, afternoon ride outside, 51.1 miles
10th: 22.1 miles easy
11th: Two rides: 24.1 miles, very hard, 1600 feet of climbing in the 24, 21.1 average speed as I hit every hill hard: Second ride of the day...22.3 miles
12th: Two rides...13 miles in the morning (got wet). Second ride to get to 300 miles for the week...51.5 miles
13th: Two short rides (I was tired)...both 35 minutes...so around 20 miles (both were on the trainer)
14th: Better today, slept and ate well, 71 miles outside (20.6 average which is good for me)
15th: Two rides again...22 miles in the morning and then 44 in the late afternoon
16th: Two rides...13 and 14 miles (big weekend ride coming up)
17th: 60 miles over two rides...50 and 10...during the 10 I was testing a new Garmin
18th: 115 miles with 7000 feet of climbing...going after KOMs on Strava
19th: Two rides...28 in the morning and then a 23 mile ride in the evening
20th: Two rides...16 in the morning and then 16 more in the evening
21st: Two rides...22 in the morning and then 86 miles in the evening
So around 1200 miles for the month so far
417 hours for the year (my goal is 800 hours for the year)

Wed 22 - 30.72. Pushed the boat out for the evening ride, partly to make up for Monday, partly as a pre-emptive make up for not cycling tomorrow due to the supposed torrential rain expected, which now seems to have largely evaporated. Anyway, really pleased with that evening run which was both the longest uninterrupted ride since I've had a satnav (and possibly ever), and certainly my first ever 1000+ ft ascent (which might not sound like much to any half-mountain goat types from the likes of Yorkshire or villages in the Alps, but as someone raised in Norfolk who remains strongly suspicious of the idea of landscape having a 3rd dimension, that was a lot for me - natural KOM I am not).

It didn't rain, but I'm thinking I did damage something in my last tip over to avoid hitting a car who ran a stop sign. Either that or I'm just super tired and it's wearing on me. Just getting in commuting mileage the past few days, as my dedicated exercise time has been focused on running & swimming this week. I'll try to get in a longer ride tomorrow following my afternoon ballgame, as I have plenty of hours of extra light in the evening. Mileage targets for biking (500) & running (200) will come down to the wire, but both should be doable without resorting to an ironman on my last day.
