Heart Rate Monitor for Contact Sports

Longshot: Anyone know of a good heart rate monitor that could be worn while playing full contact sports? Having a big plastic block on my chest sounds like a recipe for disaster (and broken equipment), but the lower profile ANT+ straps don't have the range to reach a receiver.

Nothing comes to mind that won't break or cause bodily harm.

My first thought on this question is why? What purpose would a HRM serve?

Wahoo has the TickrX that saves the data.locally and you.can dump it your phone later. It's not exactly a low profile device.

Full contact? All I can think of is Ouch.

I think your only viable option would be a Schoche on the upper arm with a compatible receiver in range.

I'd agree with Dewd though, don't really see much point.

I've used the Vivoactive HR watch ( no strap needed ) for hockey a couple times. The glove covers it well but I wouldn't do it most of the time.

Ouch, I can't think of one that would be safe. I played rugby on and off for years, and I wouldn't wear any sort of chest strap, even a low-profile one, because a good hit could break it or leave one hell of a mark. Even a wrist based one could be a danger for the same reason-my concern would be that if you get hit where you're wearing it, it's going to slam into you with a lot of force.

Also, I would think anything on your extremities like your wrists would be banned for safety reasons, and if you value your ribs/sternum I'd avoid a chest strap.
