Hi all! Okay....so here's my story! I gained weight during college and decided to join weight watchers beginning at 175 pounds (5'6), well that was four years ago and today I am 175 pounds I've recently tried, unsuccessfully, to do weight watchers on my own. My mom joined with me the first time and lost like 20 pounds and kept it off. She's my cheerleader and she tries to help me but I just can't seem to stick to it. I know I can do this, but I feel like I'm constantly scruntinizing the foods I eat while counting "points" and I feel like I obsess over it. I need a true lifestyle change and I feel like maybe weight watchers isn't for my "mentality". Therefore, I'm really going to try MFP out and seriously commit to it, but not obsess about the calorie counting. I eat pretty healthy foods, I just eat waaaaay tooooo much sometimes, therefore I can never find a balance. And I exercise a lot (30 day shred, running (about 2 miles), kickboxing) I hope you will offer your advice and add me as a friend. Please help!!

Congrats on coming here to MFP....This is a great site, lots of nice people who help out with advice and what not...
Good luck to you..0 -
I have converted several people from WW to MFP because it seems to track more. I stick to my calories and log everything, even the water I drink and the exercise I do.
I never eat all the calories it gives me when I exercise and I rarely eat the 1800 calories it says I can have on a regular day...
I have lost 16lbs and I eat out and have what I want. I eat actual portion sizes instead of the portions you get when you are out and about.
It has changed my life in just a mere 3 weeks... I believe with this tool I can become fit and healthy for life!
It has changed my thinking about food. I never could lose on WW.
Good luck to you and feel free to add me as a friend for support or whatever! Always happy to help0 -
Welcome! How much water do you drink? Drink 8 cups a day and eat smaller meals more frequently. It helps to shrink your stomach so it doesn't take as much food to feel full.0

My biggest advice for you is EAT. Food is fuel and your body needs lots of it. Especially when you workout as much as you say. Also, make sure you incorporate weight training and lift heavy. By heavy, I mean lift so you fail at 12-15 reps. If you can do more, you aren't lifting heavy enough. I say this because muscle burns fat. The more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn. The more fat you burn, the tighter your body will be. In fact, below is how I calculate my caloric needs and how I use MFP. Best of luck.My approach looks at Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR); BMR is the amount of calories you would burn if you slept 24 hours, for me, my BMR is 2000 calories. I then mutliply it by my Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE); how many calories I should eat to make up for daily activities (walking, working out, etc) to get a total number of calories. Because I do a program like p90x, I multiply my 2000 calories by 1.725 which equals 3400 calories. This amount of calories is the amount I need to eat to maintain weight. I back off 500 caloires as my deficit and eat 3000 calories in a day. This is the website I use.
http://www.cordianet.com/calculator.htm
I then go into a custom setup under my goals and set my daily intake for 3000 calories (well I will starting sunday, right now it's 2800 because I haven't officially started p90x until sunday). Additionally, to follow the p90x food guide, I set up custom ratio's. I do 45% of carbs, 35% of protein and 20% for fats. As I progress, I will lower protein and increase carbs. This method has worked for me and others I have worked with on the site. MFP just makes it simple for anyone to come on and lose weight. I take more of a scientific approach to weight loss. When I started I was 210 & 18% body fat. Now I am 189 and 12% body fat and hoping to break single digits within 3 months.
Cliff notes: if you go by the sites calculations, you absolutely should eat back your workout calories as they preload the deficit. If you go by the more scientific method, you don't have to worry about it, it's already figured in your number.
Good luck everyone.0 -

I follow the exact same plan myself and I am totally happy with my progress 9 weeks later.0 -
I tried WW and the WWPP(New), Ideal Protein, eatting whatever I want, not eatting....It wasn't until I actually started looking at what the calories is, till I got the point!
I'd tell anyone to join MFP over any other program, mainly because its free, and you aren't hiding food or behind 'points'.
I didn't eat my exercise points at first, but found I was cheating or binging. Now I am eatting most of them back and doing pretty good. The weight is coming off.0 -
Thanks for all the advice! I do drink a ton of water!!! Trying to kick the diet soda habit though
