    Depends what you do

For general going about your business, living your life, housework, walks, running a Fitbit zip or one
    - don't be fooled into a 24 hour HRM wearable, they are no more accurate and sometimes less

For specific steady state workouts ..jogging, running, rowing etc ..a chest strap hrm ..polar or garmin

For all other activities...weights, tennis, cross fit, videos, classes ...a simple METs estimate calculation on time spent https://sites.google.com/site/compendiumofphysicalactivities/Activity-Categories/conditioning-exercise

I use a Fitbit Charge. Not expensive. Got at Costco. My husband just bought a jawbone. It looks just like a band. I may be interested since I would still wear my watch then. It was around $60 on Amazon.

My goal is to keep track of my activity throughout the days. I want to keep track of my steps, calories burn, heart rate etc..

So I'd agree with the suggestion above that something cheap like an entry level FitBit will give you reasonable information. I'd observe that unless you actively train having knowledge of your HR is a bit meaningless for most people.

The question becomes one of lifestyle and whether you want something on your wrist out something that clips to clothing. Wrist worn has more potential to give you a greater range of information, but can have a slightly higher false positive rate, equally if you are in a position where your hands are constrained they can under report. So if you push a stroller a lot. I know that my VivoSmart underscores when I've been pushing my partners wheelchair a lot.

There is no best, it's more about what's most appropriate.
