Since I got my 800 minutes in December, I think I will see if I can start the year with 900 minutes on my trainer. If I can find my BT speed/cadence sensor, I may put a distance measure in there, but it seems to be hiding from me.

January 1st 0 minutes. I am just too tired after not getting to sleep until 4:30AM and then waking up at 9AM.
    January 2nd 40 minutes - Total 40 minutes 860 to go.
    January 3rd 30 minutes - Total 70 minutes 830 to go.
    January 6th 18 minutes - Total 88 minutes 812 to go.
    January 9th 45 minutes - Total 133 minutes 767 to go.
    January 10th 40 minutes - Total 173 minutes 727 to go.
    January 11th 55 minutes - Total 228 minutes 672 to go.

I've had a stomach bug for the last 2 days so I'm sidelined. Hoping to go to my turbo class tomorrow morning but will have to see how I feel.

@DomCraigKing Thanks for the suggestion with the heated gloves! I might put those on my wishlist, sounds like a good idea for winter.
@35dollars From that picture, the battery pack on the wrist sure looks huge! Please let me know how they worked out on the bike, if you get a chance to test-drive them tomorrow.

@wobblybots I wish you speedy recovery!

    --

Lots of snow on Tuesday, everything coated in ice on Wednesday, but today it got warmer (3°C) and started melting, so I took the bike to work. Apart from a little snow sludge in a few spots, it was fine. On the way home I got caught in a cold rain shower. At least it wasn't snow!

    04/01/2017 - 3.2km new chain test ride
    05/01/2017 - 12.5km commute
    07/01/2017 - 3.2km supermarket and back
    09/01/2017 - 11.8km commute
    12/01/2017 - 10.5km commute
    ---
41.2 km (of 150km Jan goal) done

And I did it: I ordered rollers for indoor riding! I hope they'll arrive on Saturday, so that I can set them up and try them out on the weekend.

I found my speed/cadence sensor, but it seems that when it broke off the speed sensor part was damaged. I did lots of work and testing with it, and all it will register is cadence, so it is useless for me to get distance. I think I will get an inexpensive wireless speedometer and use that for my indoor stuff.

    Brrr, horrible weather!
I took my trekking bike to work today (now I understand why you need more than one bike ;) ), and it handled the slush on the ground surprisingly well. That didn't make it any more fun to ride when the wind started hurling the snow flakes in my face.
Judging by the shipping status, my indoor trainer won't arrive before Monday or Tuesday. I think I'll take a break from cycling until then.

My times include 21:58, 25:15, 7:00, & 34:00 last 2 months. Indoor biking little hard to calculate until I get the new cycle.

Didn't quite get cold enough to test the electric gloves today (bottomed at about -2C, which my normal gloves can handle*), and wussed out yesterday in the face of the weather forecast (-7C, 50+ mph winds and snow), which turned out to be overly pessimistic - bit annoyed at missing a day, but hey ho.

    Anyway, todays was:
    Sat 14 - 15.76 miles

    MTD 90.31 / 250, YTD 90.31 / 4000

    * on the subject of the gloves, I'm having a problem with mine and wonder if any of the assembled brains have any bright ideas. They're pretty wind resistant with a sort of fleecy lining, and as a result they get really sweaty inside on a ride. After a couple of days, not to put to fine a point on it, they start to smell like a sweaty ape's crotch**, and that smell transfers to my hands. Washing them every day or so, isn't really practical, so any ideas?

** up to you whether you take that as being "the crotch of a sweaty ape" or "the sweaty crotch of an ape". In either case, it's not an appealing smell

@35dollars I used to have that problem with motorbike gloves (back in the wild days when I owned a motorbike B) ). They were too stiff to turn inside out for air drying on sweaty hot summer days... Putting in those little bags for smelly shoes helped a lot, something like this; I've been told the cheaper DIY version consisting of a sock filled with cat litter works just as well - provided both the sock and the cat litter are clean, of course ;)

@Rebsrockem Congratulations on the new distance, great!

I didn't ride my bike at all this weekend. There's lots of fresh snow and ice outside, my indoor trainer is still in the mail, and I've got a cold *sniff*.

Starting to plan out the year ahead....
Will do my usual New Forest (100 miler in May) and Ditching Devil (128 miles in June) Audax events but if the Spring weather is kind and I get plenty of time outdoors I may change up the New Forest ride to the longer route that adds a loop of the Isle of Wight (124 miles).

There's a couple of unsupported long rides I want to do this year, one near Winchester and the other around the Trough of Bowland. Very tempted by a London - Paris ride for my first taste of foreign cycling.

Right now I've a bit of Christmas weight to lose and hitting the weights hard and training indoors on a Wattbike Pro in the gym and with my hybrid on a turbo trainer in the garage. Really looking forward to getting outside when weather improves.

76 miles so far this month, mostly indoors.

Added another 66 (indoor) miles this week.
Hope the weather improves soon as indoor training is getting dull.

Got a week's holiday coming up soon in Fuerteventura so I'm going to investigate bike hire while I'm there - don't tell my wife! ;)

    "Mon 16 - 23.78 miles

Soaked to the skin in the morning; fairly pleasant ride home with surprisingly little traffic, in the evening
