Hi guys,
Today's is my "first" day. Doctor told me I have to lose 60lbs or I may be stuck with diabetes for life. So needless to say, I am a bit over whelmed and under educated. So I will start to educate myself one what the first steps are to a lifestyle change. Feel free to help with any of the suggestions that worked for you!

    Hi there,

You've already made the first step by looking to make a difference. Some of the best things to remember:

CICO = Calories In, Calories Out. You will lose weight if you burn more calories than you consume. That's a hard and fast rule. Even if you ate 2000 calories of cheesecake and nothing else and burned 2500 calories a day, you will lose weight.

Its going to take time but if you really put the effort in to log everything you eat into the app, it will start to pay off. Most the weight you will lose first will be water weight. Then after that, you will have to really focus on exercising/dieting to continue the weight loss.

Don't starve yourself!! Your body needs food. Have fun and set small goals. Remember that you can either suffer the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.

find those foods that you like that easily fit into your daily calories and then make sure you have them around the house...for me, I always have apples, celery, and frozen chicken breasts...I know I can make a meal out of those any time. I would also say, focus on the food as you get started...learning what is healthy, low calorie, and satisfying. weigh and track everything you eat. You can get a small digital food scale on amazon pretty inexpensive...doing that alone will help you learn portion sizes and what foods are "worth it". Welcome to My Fitness Pal!

OH...take some selfies...full body ones. Even if you hate them and think you will never show them to anyone, they can serve as your motivation or a few months down the road, will be great "before" shots!
