I wanted to share something that is a bit of a passion for me--white noise hunting. Totally weird, I know, but even with me not ever having any real trouble sleeping, I have always slept better with something like a fan or ambient noise. In fact, I find it disturbing to not have some kind of reliably patternistic noise.

Here are some of my favs so far...

Air plane: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co7KgV2edvI
Spaceship ambiance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzLeq2pRgIY&t=28036s
Large fan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9l9IHPIOJk0&t=186s
Rain on car (of course): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U13bX851TYw

Not sure why I am sharing this. I guess I just realize that whether I'm at the office or working at home or sleeping, this is a part of my life. Enjoy!

Thank you. I really need this. Having the worst bouts of insomnia and nightmares! I'll try these and report back :)

For years I used to run a fan at night, found it very soothing and relaxing.
Then I discovered all the youtube videos and now I choose from a list of favorites before I go to bed each night and run them all night long. I always have something going.
My favorites are gentle rain with distant thunder, rain on a tent, some of the ones involving a spaceship or a plane. Recently I found one which was called a nuclear sub which I like.

When I'm working on a project at home and I want to stay relaxed and concentrate I'll put on sounds of a creek, river or waterfall. I have a few that I like which are based on chimes, also another which is just the sound of sailboats docked, their rigs will make a nice soothing noise

    Ditto.

My problem is mid-morning insomnia, although I did sleep 7 hours last night so that was good. Problem is, I went to bed at 8. lolol I hope this is a sign I can get my sleep back under control though.

I sleep with a window open so I can hear the wildlife. Owls, coyotes, birds, crickets, frogs. A bird nests in the pine tree just outside my window. If I get up in the night to go to the bathroom, then turn on my phone to check email or something when I get back in bed, that little bird complains! Complains about the extra light I guess. Keeps me from doing what I shouldn't.

thank you for sharing! i have mild tinnitus and when it gets really bad (i.e. after concerts, going to loud bars, heavy drinking, etc.), white noise is imperative for my sleep. this is definitely appreciated!

This is a clash I have with my husband. He likes white noise and pitch dark. I like windows open to hear the nightlife in our woods and see the moonlight! I imagine we will have separate- but happy-bedrooms one day.

On youtube type in cessna prop plane. Image is of 4 beige leather chairs . ITs my favorite. I noticed Joe has an airplane cabin also. It is incredibly soothing. I sleep with a portable air conditioner running YEAR ROUND as I need the sound and I need to sleep in incredibly cold conditions to be comfortable. Fans especially ceiling fans are nice. Gentle rain. No thunder. A dishwasher. And dont forget a human voice turned low enough to not hear individual words but just getting the general pitch and modulation. Wonderful. Puts me right to sleep like a dull lecture.

I swear by white noise for sleeping. Played it consistently for my daughter when she was a baby and could hear it through the monitor which got me hooked. She doesn't need it to sleep anymore (she's12), but I do. I listen to this one every night to fall asleep:

I'm looking forward to trying out everyone else's suggestions!

I have a whole new obsession with planet sounds as white noise:

A bit of creepy, calming, and scary...helps concentration or relaxation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hADFOZY5BUs

I've been doing this on my Chromecast and I find it really does help with sleep quality - I've been doing heavy rain with a little light thunder and I LOVE IT! :)

Very interesting! Wonder if that would help me with a sleeping disorder?
