I am confused about whether or not to add calories burned into my daily needs. If I don't, I'm afraid I will not be providing my body with what it needs. I am 218 pounds, and I usually eat between 1200-1400 calories per day. I also burn about 500 extra calories per day with exercise. If that 500 is burned from the 1200 eaten, my body is only getting 700 calories, which is dangerously low. Do I need to eat 1200 + 500 calories per day to be safe?

Yes. You should be eating exercise calories. 1200 to start with looks quite low. What's your age? Height? What activity level did you input into MFP?

I ALWAYS recommend eating back exercise calories if you set your calorie goal to the lowest possible amount, which you have. 1200 likely isn't adequate as it is, to burn off calories on top of that without replacing them is just setting yourself up for failure. You have to be good to your body to get good results back from it.

I'm 31 years old and 5'8". I put Not Very Active into MFP. My goal calories are 1300, but it's usually somewhere between 1200-1400.

I asked my registered dietician the same thing because I wanted to make sure I was getting enough nutrition for my body. She told me not to eat back my calories. I was on the 1200 and burned anywhere from 300-500 calories. I have done well so far losing 1-2 lbs per week since last June. Alternating weekends I enjoyed more than 1200 calories. I recently started increasing my caloric intake.

If that's the case, I have been eating a dangerously low amount of calories for two months. Is this something that could have done damage to my body, my heart?
