"Madwife2009" is probably faster than we were but it took us 7.5 hrs ride time and 11hrs from when we started.11 -

How long ago? The trail was extended a few years ago and there is now a north loop from Waukee to Herndon. Loop is 72 miles and total trail is 89. (We went up and back to Jefferson to make it to 100).3 -

Sorted out my route, with lots of "escape" runs included in case I failed miserably. DH knew where to meet me and when, for refreshment stops.

Then . . . it all went horribly, horribly wrong. Had the worst night's sleep (or rather a serious lack of it) ever. I don't think that I slept at all. So that completely stuffed all my plans. There was no way I could cycle 100 miles after that. I was so disappointed. Every time I make plans, something happens.
Spent the morning sorting and clearing out stuff, followed by a nice lunch. The weather was still good so decided to go for a quick bike ride, just to help with the disappointment of not doing my 100-miler. Planned on a couple of hours (so 20-26 miles).
I did 20 miles, then decided to go up my favourite hill (well, the going down bit is why I like it) to see if I could hit 50 mph. Another total failure - only managed 49.1 mph. I was so disappointed. To make up for this, I decided to circle round back to my other favourite hill to see if I could go down it at 45 mph (it's a shorter, less steep hill). Flew down the hill and had to slow down for a couple of motorists who clearly forgot that the hill is mine when I'm out on my bike. Looked at my bike computer at the bottom of the hill and found I'd hit 46.2 mph. A new record! Well, it brought a smile to my face anyway.
Got home a bit later than anticipated and found that I'd cycled . . . . 50 miles. Half the distance after all. I will get there. The plans are all made, just need to wait for the right day now, which has to be soon as my medication is going to be changed within the next few weeks and the nurse practitioner recommended not doing too much (like 100-mile bike rides) until I'm certain that I'm coping with the treatment okay.
Do you have someone that could do the century ride with you. I did my first on Saturday and having a group to do it with made all the difference. I do most of my biking on my own but doing this with a group that was focused on getting it done and not leaving anyone behind was great.
Unfortunately not. I'm not really into "social cycling" so don't have a group and my husband/children aren't at the level of cycling ability that I'm at, purely because they don't cycle as much as I do. So I'd be by myself, me and my ipod which I prefer as I don't have to worry about anyone else except me. I have done a 30-mile group ride but didn't overly enjoy it, the best bit was cycling home afterwards, by myself. Bit of a hermit, me. Roughly about 7 - 8 hours actual ride time, depending on how many hills I have to conquer and how tired I get! Unfortunately I live in a very hilly county so they do tend to slow me down/tire me out a little. I'm thinking of finding some flat country to cycle around but I think that for my first 100-mile ride I'll stick to what I know best. Then if I do the flatter route, it'll seem really easy.
I'm looking forward to completing it. Although actually starting it would be great as well

Today I wore shorts I barely fit last summer. They are still a bit snug but I'm sure they will fit better in a few weeks. (I have definitely gained weight since last summer, but that means I've lost that now)16

1. My pants fell off while doing high knees today.
2. I was working out at home.37 -
1) My son and I started 10k training today. It is so much harder to run for 10 minutes, walk a minute, run, walk, etc than it is just to run the 40+ minutes it takes us to run a 5k! However, we must have run faster during the 10-minute periods as we completed the 5k (which included 6 minutes of walking) faster than usual - just for fun I decided to see how long it took to complete the 5k distance whilst we were doing the 10k training - we actually travelled 4.1 miles altogether over the 50+ minutes of the workout. So that's a result to start with
We've decided to continue with the ParkRuns as well, so it looks like a ParkRun when they are running, plus 2 or 3 days 10k training. And I am ridiculously excited about it.
2) Didn't get out on the bike today as no time due to taking my son to a hospital appointment. However, I walked 8.02 miles and ran another 5.8 miles so I think that I did enough today. Tomorrow is my cycling day Two rides, hopefully - a long cycle ride and a shorter one.
3) My (very lazy) teenage daughter - who's idea of major exercise is getting out of bed in the morning - actually said that she wants to be more active. She was undecided about what to do, so I suggested the C25K programme, as it's free. And I got roped into helping her (not that I mind, anything to get her active). So, as well as the 10k training with my son, I also started the C25K training with my daughter.
I found it quite hard, to keep stop/starting. My daughter was really funny as she hurtled off for the first 60-second run, way ahead of me, shouting for me to catch up and that I should be way faster than her as I've done loads more running than she has. I yelled back that she needed to slow right down, to barely more than a walk. She just laughed at me. I just smiled as I have the knowledge (well, a little, anyway). During the second, third and fourth walks, she kept saying how easy it was. I just smiled. During the fifth and sixth walk, she was complaining that it was hard. I just smiled. During the seventh walk, she was really moaning. I just smiled. During the eighth walk, she was saying that she "would have to think long and hard" about whether or not to continue the program. I just smiled. Broadly, of course, whilst thinking, "been there, felt like that. You'll be back in a couple of days, wanting to do more".
And she will, because it's seriously addictive.
Even my toddler wants in on the running, she was begging to go with us, saying that she'd be able to keep up. Bless her, her little legs would virtually fall off. Have promised her that I will take her to the Junior ParkRun this weekend - it's 2k and she can easily walk that. She's so keen to get out and do stuff.
4) Step count for today: 30,531 recorded. I think that some are missing as it tends to skip quite a few when I'm pushing the buggy.23 -

Well, I lived in Des Moines from about 1986 to 1993 from about 2 ish to age 9 and then a short time from 1994 to maybe 1995. I lived in Adel from 1999 to 2005. When I lived in Adel, I used the trail mainly to get from where I lived to the library and back so I didn't have to deal with traffic.

While walking my dog past a neighbor's house for the umpteenth time this year, she stopped me in the street (we live on a cul de sac) to tell me "All the dog walking is paying off. You're really looking good!" Great for me to hear, because I still have a ways to go to scale goal. My mindset has been as long as my fitness improves, the weight can take it's time, so it's nice someone who didn't even know I was trying noticed!26

The other day I decided to pull my old bike out of the shed. I haven't been on one in over 18 years. I put air in the tires, cleaned it off, popped a helmut on my head and took off. I was riding down by the beach with the smell of the ocean, wind in my face and the sun on my back. Before I knew it I had gone 5.2 miles. I guess loosing 36 lbs has given me the confidence and stamina to ride my bike again. That was such a fantastic feeling.43

So two summers I ordered two pairs of swim trunks from Amazon because my bf at the time liked swimming and wanted me to try it out and see if I liked it. When they arrived, I tried them on and couldn't slide them up past my thighs. They were what I thought was my size my size but apparently I was being cradled by the vanity sizing of Casual Male XL. Well yesterday, I had to run out of those house for some reason and had nothing clean(laundry day) and on a whim decided to try the trunks. They fit beautifully with room to spare even. I was so jazzed, I wore them all day. 27

In a room of 7 coworkers, I was told that I am looking really good/"skinny" and several agreed. I was pretty embarrassed I just quickly said I'm doing it and getting healthy. And got the hell out of there. Was nice to have people take notice but felt uncomfortable about the attention too.19

Woo hoo! After 53 days on MFP I climbed 7 flights of stairs today without gasping for breath. When I started one flight left me gasping.30

People are finally noticing my weight loss! Just the motivation I need to stay on track on difficult days.22

Went to the store in my running shorts, Midway through groceries I realized I wasn't self conscious about it and didn't have to yank them back down from bunching up between my thighs.31

Wore a cropped top without feeling self-conscious. Mind you, my shorts are so high you can't see any skin but still 30

Staying the course and trusting the process no matter which direction the scale goes...this journey is more than the becoming and less about the numbers.
Finally fitting into a size of jeans that I would never buy any bigger (partly because of denial) without feeling stuffed.22 -
In preparation for needing new jeans, I ordered a few pairs a size down from my current size. They arrived yesterday and I tried them on to see how much further I had to go before they'd fit... and they fit perfectly. I'm down to a waist size I haven't worn in over 20 years 40

When doing the grocery shopping, I used to be asked consistently by this one cashier, "Would you like help bringing your bags to your car? It's no trouble!"
Now, 65 lbs lost and after he saw me put a bag with 6 2L soda bottles in it into the cart one-handed, the same guy just said, "You don't need help to your car, do you."
