I've lost about 65 pounds -
No-one told me just HOW expensive it would be, literally not a single item of clothing OR shoes fit
No-one told me my personality would go from 'eh' to feelin myself 99% of the time
No-one told me how many people would ask me how I did it, only to refuse my answer of eat less move more
No-one told me how much I'd look at other people in my life, and strangers, and suddenly see them differently, respecting the physically fit now knowing the work they put in, and wishing I could help the obese, if only

This! I'm 50lbs down, and just realising that very little fits.9 -
No one told me that my bra would fit flat across my back and around my sides. I just discovered this morning that I no longer have rolls of fat spilling out above and below my properly-fitting bra. So much more comfortable.38

What nobody told me about weight loss
The mental games that it plays with your mind when you first. And that I need to know who I am as a person besides just my weight to overcome that nasty voice that send destructive guilt.15 -
It's crazy how I still feel like I haven't accomplished much some days (even though I have lost almost 50lbs so far) and other days I am like, Who is that hot lady there?!?!? It is hard to motivate myself on the rough days- that when habit has started to kick in. I end up driving to the gym practically on autopilot after work that it just happens and I am like well, I am already here...lol24

This is my favorite thread of all time. I'm so glad it keeps coming back around.
No one told me that clothes can be comfortable. I used to come home and immediately put on sweat pants and take off my bra. My skinny roommate always wore her jeans around the house, which I thought was SO uncomfortable.
I came home yesterday and ate dinner and hung around with my cat.... and when I went to put on sweats, I realized that I didn't NEED to. I didn't even WANT to.43 -

I've been reading this thread from the beginning since shortly after I began my journey. Admittedly, I didn't have as much to lose as many of the posters here. But, I'm down 20lbs since April, and have at least another 10lbs to go.
- No one told me when I started counting calories that I would actually start to care about my body composition, too. I *like* strength training!! (An aside - My coworker was asking me recently about what I had been doing to lose weight. I told her MFP, and fallen in love with weight lifting and how excited I am to have my own weight lifting gloves. Her response was, "tell me more about the gloves. I don't understand. Do they have weights sewn INTO them??"

- I'd seen it mentioned here before, but didn't think it would happen to me because I didn't have much to lose, but, man! LUMPY! Like, my legs, while the inches are going down, they're not the prettiest of gams right now. Glad the seasons are changing and I can wear more long pants!
- As others have also mentioned, no one told me I'd become the "expert" or a "mentor" for others. I have another coworker who's gotten into MFP with me, and we're working on Lunch-shares, and I'm teaching her the importance of a balanced meal, and what the different nutrients (or lack thereof) mean to our bodies.
I have to just keep echoing what everyone else has said here. It's life-transforming in ways you never expect! This has been an awesome thread to keep checking on, encouraging me along the way! Keep it up, everyone! 24 -

Lol, I'll leave on the bra, but dang straight I'm in those sweatpants immediately - my whole life, off with the outside clothes and into beloved baggy, wrinkled comfortable sweats or similar (too hot for sweats in tx summer) as soon as I get home.8 -
A couple that bother me a bit (I know I'm the pessimist lol)
- for me personally I still have days where I feel I look the same I did when I was 35 pounds heavier... I never really considered that before.
- how it gives people you barely know the "right" to comment on your body.
- gaining a couple pounds is a much bigger deal to me now then it ever has been and trying not to freak out about it.
- but I do love that I can wear just a t shirt and jeans now instead of the tight tank top under the top to smooth things out and the cardigan on top of that to hide any back bumps or side bumps. So that's a definite bonus

No one tells you that if you're tall and more slender it's REALLY REALLY REALLLY REALLY hard to find clothes that fit. Like, insanely hard. My local stores have stopped carrying tall pants in any regular sizes (4-16) whatsoever. There's a petites section for short women. There's a juniors section for short women. While the womens' section is also for short women, you can make up for some of the lack of length by going up in size. But not so much in the regular department.
I wear a size 6 L now, and I really need that extra length.. but criminy heck is it hard to find.13 -
The gentleman in line behind me at the grocery store insisted on paying for my groceries a few days ago, and I wonder if my sad, baggy clothes from 70 pounds ago had anything to do with it...33

Feeling your pain, Sister! I have no idea where to buy pants now. It's actually a real problem! Theoretically I could shop on-line, but with women's clothes being sized so inconsistently I have no idea what size to order. Grrrr...6 -
I've become more graceful. I feel lighter when I sit down and stand back up - that still freaks me out. The muscle tone: having legs that are shaped, seeing my calves, or my little four pack. Being able to fit into clothes that I actually like instead of just covering myself up. My energy is more consistent. I look forward to being around others more. Gosh I spent so much time hiding myself and never really noticed it.25

OMG when I started reading this comment I thought it was going to be a case of you getting hit on, like a guy insisting on buying you a drink ... except at the grocery store. That's so awkward and yet so fun at the same time, and lovely of the gentleman! I guess 'homeless' is the new 'little black dress'!11 -

- How skinny people will tell you wow you lost weight and then throw in that they need to lose weight too and then eat donuts in your face.

@tomteboda My sister is a 4/6 tall and she lives in Banana Republic and J Crew. Maybe try ordering online and returning what doesn't fit?3
