Great job, this takes a lot of determination to do what you're doing.

Certain people here have a lot more determination and achievement than I. ;);)

    * My knees were complaining loudly yesterday. It was the second day of standing in the kitchen for 6-7 hours, preparing tomatoes and chard for the freezer. Today they are swollen. Standing is hard, walking is better. I need to finish this garden stuff and walk!

Standing seems like it is way harder on joints than actual walking. Also really slow walking like when you go shopping for a long time always makes my legs ache more than a way longer distance walking quickly...

So you are still in your extended fast! I don't know if I could do that. One of these days I may try for a 3 day one or so. Good luck!

Fasting is easy if you can avoid thinking about a white elephant. The body does not get hungry. The mind does.

I agree with this - any physical hunger is negligible, really..it goes away quickly...the mental part is the hard part for me.

9/11 On my way to Spain.

OMAD** Yesterday turned into OMAD, possibly because I been thinking about white elephants. DH had cooked a turkey the day before, and when he took it out of the fridge for dinner last night, I dove in. Had a modest amount of dark meat, a huge amount of crisp and not-so-crisp skin, one cherry tomato, two mini red potatoes with butter. Estimate it was less than 1000 calories, but not what I intended. Damage nil, or damage 1# depending on how one counts it. I seem to average 1#/day loss on fasting. Clearly my metabolism is a lot different than the metabolism of other fasters here.

Also, I know that we all have finite willpower. I must have used mine up on something trivial earlier in the day, and so had not enough left at 5PM. I should have gone to the bedroom with a good book instead.

But yesterday, and today, the knees feel pretty good!

I will fast again until Sunday, have a good meal Sunday, then fast during my plane trip to Spain on the Monday+overnight journey. Fasting - plus getting as much sleep on the plane as possible - is the best way to prevent/cure jet lag I know. I will eat again in Valencia on Tuesday evening. They say that this method, waiting until you are in your destination city to eat, helps to reset your clock. It certainly worked for me when I went to Germany in May.

After that, the plan is definitely OMAD. At first I wasn't sure if I would allow two small meals a day in Spain - because I will be sitting there with my traveling companions anyway. But I found out that daytime temperatures are going to be in the mid to high 90s for the first 2 weeks I am there. That in itself is enough of a jolt to the body that I won't need to stoke a furnace during the day.

I don't know if I can believe that. When I get real hungry it feels like my stomach is going to eat itself!

I have to say I agree with this. I am fine and Darcy is now sleeping... He's not as used to being jet-lagged as I am and also generally needs more sleep than me, but I'm still going to attribute some of my feeling way better than him today to the fasting. He also ate a big lunch today which I'm sure didn't help.

One week in Spain. Successfully fasted on the plane trip last Monday. OMAD every day Tues Sept 12 - Monday Sept 18, EXCEPT on Thursday I went to an evening tapas festival in Ubeda. There were 2 tapas, national dishes, that I cannot get at home, and thus I ate 2 tapas. Callos and Salmorejo. Hey they were only $1 each!

Weight - I have no idea.

Knees. Holding up except for 1 day. On Saturday I toured the Alhambra in Granada. 4 hours walking and standing. It was too much. Sunday and Monday I had to cut back on activity to get the swelling down. 2 hours seems to be my limit right now.

I would have fasted today, but one of my traveling companions would have had to dine alone. So I took her out to lunch. I had gaspacho and oxtail stew (rabo de toro). I will be able to fast tomorrow.
