Injured foot

I cannot use my treadmill right now due to a foot injury. I have surgery scheduled in December. Then I won't be on treadmill for quite some time. Recommendations for a calorie burning workout without putting weight on my foot?

If your goal is weight loss when you say calorie burning I hope you realize you don't have to exercise to lose weight.

Please don't take advice from anybody on this website. Even though they may be trying to give you good advice without knowing the extent of your surgery in the type of work that was done on your foot they have no idea what they're talking about. The most important thing you need to do after you have your surgery is talk to your orthopedic surgeon and your physical therapist. You don't want to do any kind of exercise that may slow down your healing process.

Also as far as therapy after you have your surgery the most important thing you could do is follow the advice of your physical therapist.

If you're willing to spend a bit of money on equipment, you could get an arm ergometer (it's basically an arm bike) to do upper body cardio. I think you can get a simple one that can be used as both an ergometer and an under-desk bike for $30.

Pilates & yoga. I do this when my plantar fasciitis bothers me. I skip downward dog and anything that requires me to bend my toes and use my foot.
  • Depending on the type of injury you have, cycling may be possible, if you can find a supportive boot and stick to the flat. I was able to cycle the last three weeks being in a cast with my broken ankle a few years ago. If weightloss is your main goal, then just stay within your calirie allocation, cutting back on carbs if you can't excercize. If staying fit is a priority, then try out different forms of excersize and see which ones are ok for you.

I had foot surgery a few years ago and was able to use a recumbent bike along with a modified weight lifting routine while in a walking boot.
