Incorrect information?

I just downloaded the app and went to make my first entery, I scanned SUNFRESH Roasted Vegetables and it said;
Kilojoules: 1223
Carbs: 28.5g
Fat: 14.2g
But the packet is saying;
Energy: 1440kj
Carbs: 37.7g
Fat: 14.4g
I did some more scanning and the app had incorrect nutritional information on a lot of the products, i was wondering why that was? I was excited to track down what I have been eating to maintain my weight with this app but I don’t feel I can trust what it says. Is it just an estimate? Are all apps the same?

    It could be a number of factors. Country of origin, change in formulation of product, human error. For myself, when I'm looking for an product entry, I always add in "Canada" as part of the query. Even little things like cheese slices differ country to country. You also have the option to edit/correct the entry.

    I selected Australia as the origin when I first downloaded the app. I don’t see how how the percentage of fat in something can change depending what country it is in? There doesn’t seem to be an edit option, do you need to be a premium memeber?

    You have to use the full web version to do a text search to find the exact item and then edit it on the web version. You may not be able to edit the item if it is marked "verified" by the computer algorithm, even if the information is incorrect. The MFP Food Database is user-entered and prone to errors. MFP does not guaranty the accuracy of any item.
  • Ahhh thankyou that was very helpful!! I understand how the whole thing works a little better now and I’ve gone into the database and changed it to the correct information.

    Glad it worked. Just a note, if you added the incorrect item to your Diary, you have to delete that one from your Diary and then re-add the edited version. Anything saved in your Diary will not get automatically updated - that ensures database integrity.

    The database is user created, so there are many incorrect or outdated entries. That's why you have to verify that the entry matches what's on the label.

    Also weigh your food, all food. Serving sizes on labels can and often are off.

    Thanks for the feedback guys that’s really helpful! I’m kind of lazy so I’m just buying packaged stuff but I guess when it comes to fruit maybe a set of scales might be helpful! Also, another anoying question.. I tried to complete my diary entry for the day and it said I haven’t eaten enough kilojoules and so It won’t make a post to the news feed. What is this news feed and will all my information for the day still be saved? I’m new to this app and trying to take it seriously, it seems to be helping me stay focussed from snacking logging it all down. I didn’t realise how much sugar I ate!!

    Your diary entries are still saved even if you don't "complete" the entry. The system won't let you complete and post to the news feed because on that day, you consumed too few calories. Your diary is set at 1,200 and you only entered 690. The system doesn't reward undereating. Go ahead and eat your 1,200. :)
