Anything WITH brown rice WITHOUT cream cheese and WITHOUT the sauce... and don't eat more than like 3 rolls. You'll be fine! :)

I think japanese is about as safe as you can get for restaurant food.
There's not a lot of calories they can hide in sushi. It's basically rice, fresh fish, seaweed, and veggies.
I usually go for salmon or tuna rolls, which are pretty simple. California rolls are good too.
I like tempura shrimp rolls, but the fried part turns out to be more calories, but whatever, I love sushi, and everyone's allowed to splurge a little sometimes. Enjoy! :-)

Skip anything tempura(fried) or any sort of spicy whatever roll. That spicy is really mayo. Start with miso soup or edamame to get you going. Both are really good for you although the soup can have quite a bit of salt. Go for Sashimi if you want fish or just get a few simple rolls. I like to get one veggie roll and one simple roll with fish plus a soup. Filling and yummy with not too many calories!

If it's authentic most Japanese food is healthy. Avoid any fried (tempura, for example), with cream cheese or a sweet sauce (eel rolls, for example) and you should be fine. Sushi rolls without cream cheese are great, yaki soba, miso soup, edamame, ... Oh great, now I'm hungry again!

That's a good question! In general I have read that Japanese food can have many great benefits... I might stick with Sashimi and a bowl of miso or brown rice. Anything with sea vegetables like nori etc. will have an excellent amount of vitamins and be low / no fat.

Stay away from Eel, mackerel, tuna, tempura, tandori and sweet teriyaki... Too much fat and sugar.

I'm excited when I hit the 20lbs lost mark I am splurging and going out for bento!!!

If they have stuff other than sushi, try steak with some steamed rice and veggies.

Another healthy tip is to have them make your rolls and sushi with brown rice. I like straight up sashimi, so I will order one roll, a bunch of sashimi and soup or salad. (The ginger dressing is actually not the calorie bomb I thought it was; it's 60 cals per tbsp at my local sushi joint, and also yummy.) They often have steamer baskets, order a basket of steamed veggies to help fill you up and round out your meal. YUM!
