extremely tired, WHY!? please help!

or maybe a better word for it is exhausted!!!
For the past couple weeks I have been overcome with extreme fatigue. I cannot think of a reason for it, I am getting enough sleep, but I still feel like I want to sleep all the time. If I did not have things I HAD to do, I probably wouldn't even get up!
This is affecting my exercise and meal plan greatly. I have no energy to exercise, it is not even that I don't have the will to do it, I just am afraid I am going to fall asleep in the middle of doing it. And even if I DO manage to start, I feel that I need to stop because I just don't have the energy to keep going. I have not changed anything, well since this has happened, I have actually been eating MORE, because I sit around and then I get bored, and want to eat. My weight loss has plateaued, and I just feel stuck.
I don't even have the energy to do things that I enjoy doing. Like coming on MFP, I have blown it off for about the past week, and I am normally on religiously many times a day.
Can someone please help me?!
Gosh, there I go yawning agian. I went to bed at 10:30 pm and up at 6:30 am and I'm ready for a nap at 10:30 am!!! Ugh this has got to stop!

You should try checking your Thyroid, and Iron levels.0

I am by no means a medical expert, but what you are describing has a lot of the symptoms of sleep apnea. You may seriously want to consider getting it checked out. It's an extremely dangerous condition to have, and there are a lot of residual effects from it in one's daily life up to and including the potential for heart attacks.0

It sounds like you are depressed. Maybe a visit to the doctor is in order. Have you had your thyroid checked?0

Please don't hate me but is there any chance you are pregnant? I ask because that was me with all 3 of my kids before I even knew I was pregnant. Also are you taking a multi vitamin/mineral? That helped me immensely.0

I agree, check your thyroid. You might have thyroid problems or adrenal fatigue.... I know exactly how you are feeling. I hope you find some answers soon.0

you might be dehydrated - try drinking more water and see if it helps.
also try just taking a 20 minute walk - you probably will have to force yourself into it but try it.

There could be any number of reasons why honey. A simple blood test would cofirm or rule out many of them. (When I went to my GP feeling just as you decsribed a blood test confirmed hypothyroidism). See your GP would be my advice :happy:0

I looked at your profile to see if you have a diary and noticed you are diabetic. Are you keeping up with your diabetes? Maybe your new diet/exercise routine is impacting your sugar levels. You sould definitely consult your doctor! Not something you want to mess around with.
Fatigue is a symptom of many diabetes issues, so please call your doctor.0 -
You can change your diary settings to include iron. I was feeling weak and dizzy for a couple weeks. I started playing with the settings and discovered I wasn't getting enough iron. Many breakfast cereals are fortified with iron, so it was an easy fix. But on the days when I still dont get enough, I take 1/2 tablet of iron. It's really helped.0

go see your dr. i noticed that on your profile it says you are diabetic, so this should really be discussed with your dr. it could be lots of things, but don't mess around with your health.0

sounds like you could possibly be pregnant I would see a dr though even if there is no chance thats what it is as something isn`t right that your feeling that way.
I was so extremely tired threw the first 4-6 weeks with my pregnantcies I could hardly get out of bed0 -
I would go to the doctor and have him check your thyroid. That's how I was feeling, and that was my problem. Once I got on pills to control it I started feeling better.... Best of luck!0

I am this way when I forget tot ake my vitamins. I take a multi vitamin and a Super B Complex everyday. Also, not sure what you are eating but be sure you aren't crashing by having sugary things, caffeine,.... Also just getting out and doing some outdoor activities might help. Go for a walk or something. I find that once I get exercising, I perk up more than get tired. Drink lots of water, at least you get plenty of exercise walking to and from the bathroom! I aim for 80 oz minimum a day.
Definitely get some blood work done and check for pregnancy. I was tired and when I ate I didn't feel great afterwards, OH, and my boobs hurt, and that was before I knew I was pregnant.0 -
Go to a doctor and rule out medical issues as discussed in this thread already.
If a doctor assesses you to be fine, make sure you are eating the right things! I've just realised I'm not and it's probably why I'm always tired. Are you matching the recommended goals for protein, fat and carbs that this website suggests? If you are trying to lose weight you are starving your body and so it will be tired, so make sure you get a decent spread of those nutrients to help it all it can.
Did your doctor give you a healthy eating plan when they informed you of your diabetes? If not you might want to get one that takes your diabetes into account.0 -
I agree, you may want to request a blood test. It's better to do it now while you want to do something about it before it goes any further and you opt to "give up". I'm currently going thru the "exhausted" period right now and went to the dr. last week. Everything except my liver enzymes was fine, I just need to change my routine/ foods. I came back to MFP (as my dr. recommended) recently after being a slack off for almost a year. I had encountered personal problems that I wasn't handling very well and let it get the best of me. I didn't want to work out, I started eating bad foods again, and let too much interfere. I'm finding that working out in the morning, followed with string cheese, hard boiled eggs and oatmeal for breakfast worked fine in the past for me, and I'm going to try it again. I had energy for the day,especially at work. I recently tried doing work outs in the evening, but it isn't working. Maybe trying a new routine can help too! Stay motivated! We're all here for you!0

i would have said you are not having enough calories i would recomend to have at least 1500 min a day...and then eat back some of your exersice cals too!0

In addition to things that have been mentioned (thyroid, adrenals, apnea, iron, hydration, enough cals, etc) you may also want to check into your amino acids... it sounds like you might benefit from some L-tyrosine -- Google The Mood Cure and look into that.
Also, in addition to a good multivitamin: inositol (a B-vitamin "cousin"), B-complex, Omega-3 fish oil, cal/mag. Also additional Vitamin C can be helpful, as well.
When I hit rock bottom with my energy, and it was affecting every area of my life, supplementing was vital to coming out of it. Please feel free to ask me anything about it.
(PS if you get your thyroid tested, make sure you get the numbers and do some independent research... most general physicians use a scale for measuring "healthy range" that endocrinologists disagree with, and they're the ones who deal with thyroid.)0 -
Just a couple comments to clarify, and also a couple questions about some suggestions..
1st.. I am sorry that I have not updated my profile, but I am no longer diabetic.
2nd... I have been tested for thyroid problems in the past, and my tests have come up clear. Is this something that can change? My test has been within the last year.
3rd... pregnancy...I don't think its possible, I have been on the same b/c for 6 years, and it hasn't failed me yet, I guess I can check though.
4th... I just had a blood test done on the 27th of last month, but that was just to check my diabetes (which I have already stated, I no longer have) I think he checked cholesterol, liver, and some other things, should I go back for a more generic blood test?
5th Vitamins, funny this is brought up, I was just looking at some the other day, I don't know why I didn't end up picking them up. Has anyone used the Centrium women's energy?
I'll have to turn on my iron counter in my diary and see what that tells me.

Holy crapoley I turned on my iron counter. it suggests 100 a day, I am going back, and so far I haven't even hit 400

I was working out reguarly and I always felt great after...until about a month ago- I suddnely was very tired and couldn't get enough sleep. As soon as I sat down at home I was asleep immediately.
I went for a physical and found that my iron was low & I had underactive thyroid. I started on iron supplements and thyriod meds and I'm back in the game 2 weeks after starting the meds. And I feel great again. But I was exactly as you describe.0 -
Iron can definitely be an issue then. And you should get your thyroid test numbers -- what your dr thinks is "normal" might be considered to be hypothyroid by an endocrinologist. There are also other tests for thyroid which your GP might not have run. (The Mood Cure book has a great section on thyroid. I hate to keep harping on it, but that book was the best $9 I ever spent.) I ruled out anemia, thyroid, etc. and then was left with a dr telling me I was fine, when I absolutely was not. "Take walks in the sunshine" was about the best advice I got, and it was awful. I couldn't. I was GLUED to my couch, and couldn't do much of anything about it. I would be motivated to do something and fizzle out before I made it across the room. I had to take a break walking up our stairs. I had every symptom of "depression" except I wasn't depressed - I was just completely, totally depleted. Then I found someone who pointed to inositol and to The Mood Cure, which led me to L-tyrosine, and then to the other supplements.
When I started first supplementing, I was taking a lot of pills every day -- I would have thought it was nuts, but I was desperate to have my life back. Basically, I had these undiagnosed nutritional deficiencies that I needed to fill in. After the first month or two, how much I took tapered off, and now it's at a "normal" amount. My goal is to get all my nutritional needs met through my diet, but I know I'm not quite there yet. But the way I feel is a complete 180 from where I was. Centrum women's will do for a multi - it may not be the best ever, but it's the one I took. I would say you should also be taking the B-complex, a cal/mag, and absolutely fish oil. Also do some looking into Vitamin D -- many people are borderline deficient, and it has a big impact on overall health. There's been a lot of recent research in the past couple years where they've revised a lot of what they know about D.0
