July was not that great. I stuck to my plan half the time. I am trying to get serious for the month of August. I am committing making dietary changes and being serious about my fitness.9

Machka: Add me to the list of people who are thrilled that your DH made you a birthday cake. What a wonderful thing!
Wendy: Your home is beautiful and you are wise to appreciate your blessings. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: Gratitude is one of the gifts of life that many people tend to neglect. You are focused on things that matter and I am always impressed by your comments.
Sylvia: Committing to making dietary changes and fitness as a priority is excellent. Good for you. :flowerforyou:
DH went to his MS doctor today and it was a positive experience. We ran into our niece at the hospital. She works there and was on break. It was good to see her. We also dropped both of our cars off at VW for warranty work. We hoped to get them back tomorrow, but that is not going to happen. We have a loaner from VW, and it is okay.

I will always be grateful for the best husband I could have ever imagined and his wonderful family. I am grateful for my amazing parents who were unconventional and courageous in turbulent times. And I’m ever so grateful for the fur monsters present and past who trusted, loved and love me.
I am always aware that I must be grateful that I was born in modernity - my disabilities and partial senses would have more than likely led me to a very early death for most of human existence - my very life at this age is only possible in first world urban society of the past few centuries. Certainly the cyst surgically removed from my ear when I was 20 would have killed me within a few years. Every year I have had over 25 would have been an impossibility even 1/2 a century earlier.
And cats. Always grateful for cats.8 -

Machka A VERY happy birthday to your DH, and many happy returns. "paper bag to hyperventilate into" I might have used it like a sick sack. ;} "no memory after (your birthday)" until when? Hoping its a gap that will gradually fill and not a permanent loss of short term. Continued healing and strength your way.
My birthday long weekend was March 10/11/12 ... he remembers parts of that.
His accident was March 22.
He came out of Post Traumatic Amnesia on about May 15th or so.
He remembers nothing after my birthday long weekend until about May 15th or so. That memory loss will very likely be permanent ... it's just how the brain works and where memories are stored. The 10 days or so before the accident have been erased ... those memories were too new to keep. Then for 2 weeks he was in a coma, so of course he won't remember any of that. Then he was in Post Traumatic Amnesia, and a feature of PTA is that he didn't remember anything from one day to the next. Every time he slept and woke, it was a whole new life. When he was finally able to remember one day to the next, that's when he was deemed out of PTA ... and there were tests to confirm that.
He's actually fortunate ... because his PTA was so long, he's classified in the "Severe Brain Injury" category, and often people with severe brain injuries can lose up to about a year before their accidents. He has only lost about 10 days.
We're also fortunate ... because his PTA was so long, and he was classified as having a "Severe Brain Injury", his initial outlook was not very good. But he has surprised everyone with his progress, and still has the potential of further development.
I had a meeting yesterday and Rehab figures they'll be working with him for another 6-9 months ... maybe more if he continues to make progress.
He still has a long way to go, and I'm still living both of our lives, but it's better than it might have been.

Did Preventions 400 Calorie Fix DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Denise Austin Quick Burn Cardio DVD since we have a Newcomer general meeting.
M – the people across the street from us moved to Australia. Not sure exactly where, maybe Jess knows. I’ll ask her when she gets home. Speaking of Jess, I have a feeling that Colby won’t be coming down to meet her at the airport. I know she will most likely want to go to Reston to visit her friends, but I’m sure she doesn’t want to stay at Colby’s because the guy he’s living with smokes. In a way, it's sad to me if he doesn't come. It's as if he's saying "I won't go out of my way for you, you go out of your way for me". To me, that doesn't make for a good relationship. She doesn’t want Shadow to be there, either, although she hasn’t told Colby yet. I suspect he’s liking not having her (Shadow). To us, it’s no problem. We have 4, what’s one more? We just put her on the same schedule as our cats. I feed her moist food (so I can mix her Cosequin with it) when I feed our cats. Her nails get clipped at the same time as our cats. And so on….. Happy birthday to your hubby! Did he remember it was his birthday or did someone have to remind him. How great that he followed a recipe! My hubby doesn’t like the Microsoft products, either
Went in my pool then took Shadow to the vet. She’s lost a pound. That made Jess happy, she’s been trying to get Shadow to lose weight.
Penny –how very neat to have a bird fly in your room and then fly out. I always find your descriptions of the happenings in your area so very enthralling
KJ – whenever there’s a change in the barometric pressure (like when we go to FL), I ALWAYS can count on getting a headache. Now it’s at the point where I get the headache and it goes away as soon as I get acclimated to the weather. Used to be that it would take me weeks, and by then we were usually at home.
Heather – so happy for you that things are moving along. I have some rollout shelves for the small area between our washer and dryer. Just enough for laundry detergent.
Got good news and bad news about my car. Seems the TCM they installed is bad so they need to get another one. The good news is that it won’t cost us to have them install it.
Made a shrimp orzo salad to take to the bowling party Thurs. I’m not crazy about the party. The lady who is hosting it decided to have it during the day. That’s the day of the Newcomer lunch and I would have liked to go. I think she feels that since we’re retired, we can do it just about any time. I honestly would have preferred it in the evening. Especially since it’s so hot right now. But we’ll manage. It’s really not a big thing, and we should be there since we run the bowling (well, Vince does with some assistance from me). I'm pretty sure that one of the guys still works
Love seeing pics of Kidd Kirby
Cathy – welcome! I’m sure you’ll meet your goals. You’ve come to a good place for motivation and support.
Gwyn….. from Memphis - welcome! I can’t be bothered to remember your whole name (lol) so you need to give us one that you’d like to be called.
Got a friend request from a “smurf8080” but when I looked at their person’s profile it’s listed as being a male. I don’t think we need to be friends. I did respond asking “where do we know each other from?”. This is the only forum that I’m on here at MFP. His response was to send another friend request. If he can’t answer my question in a few days (I’m curious as to what he will answer with), I’m just going to delete the friend request.
Made some cupcakes for when Jess is here. I tried this one new recipe, usually recipes from this one site come out good, but these didn’t, so Vince will get them. Put some icing on some of the worst looking ones, froze the rest. Then made another batch. Will probably make icing Friday so I’ll have it to ice those cupcakes.
It was funny…I iced a cake the other day and used canned icing (that I wanted to use up). Vince said the icing tasted “weird”. I just told him “you’re getting used to the good homemade stuff”.
Jess called tonight. She’s applying for the loan for her next semester and needed to ask Vince some questions. Then she thanked us for paying for her undergrad degree. I guess now she sees people who not only are incurring the debt from this program, but they also have debt from their undergrad schooling. It just made me feel good that she is thankful. Wish Denise would see what she got and what she could have had but decided against it.
I’m grateful for my home, my pool, and especially my wonderful husband. He’s very smart (book smart). He’s always figuring things out. We may not be millionaires, but we aren’t in a position of where we have a hard time affording even the simplest things in life. That’s something that I don’t have to worry about. I know that for some people that’s a big thing. We have decent health insurance (admitted, it was better before Vince retired and it’ll probably decline once we need to go on Medicare) I’m also grateful for all the wonderful ladies on here to whom I can open up to and they don’t judge me.

Penny Simple pleasures: The little kiss on the cheek my 9 year old granddaughter gives me when we say goodbye. The eagerness with which my 12 year old grandson shows me his latest Matchbox car or Lego creation. The feel of my Coton's fur & his steadfast loyalty. Thunderstorms and the wonderful ozone-y smell of the charged air. The blessed sound of silence when I get in my car after work. The view of the pond from my back deck. The taste of a juicy fresh peach. Standing in the garden eating hot tomatoes from the vine. The deliciousness of a rare good night's sleep. The smell of my peppermint soap. Music. The clean Velux blanket thoughtfully folded on my recliner waiting for me late at night when I get home from a long shift at work, courtesy of my partner. Mourning Doves early in the morning. The heavenly smell of my 2 baby grandchildren after their baths. My funny little Yorkies comically vying for my attention. Pachelbel's Chickens. The ability to read. Carolina shag. Looking at shells. Sea glass. Nebraska sunrises. The prehistoric squawk of the Great Blue Heron who lives around here.
Thank you for asking this question.
I needed to be reminded of these things.

I am very grateful most days for just about everything. I am very aware of my blessings, not the least, like Rye, that I am alive because of modern medicine. I am thankful every day to be born in this place, at this time in history.
There is not much I take for granted. Every day is a miracle.
Which reminds me I must ring my cancer friend and get up to London to see her, now the weather is cooler.
Today I am going to see my friend with the severed ligament. My cleaner comes before 1 pm and then we are dashing off for a quick supermarket shop before I go and visit her. I'm taking a handbag she might like because it's rucksack style and I am getting rid of it. It's very nice leather. If she doesn't want it that's fine.
DH and I have been reading through the emailed documents. The real thing should arrive in the post today so we will sign and get them witnessed by the neighbours. He spoke to the solicitors this morning and all seems to be in order barring a couple of tiny queries. We will be buying the fridge/freezer and one set of newish curtains. Everything else is included.
It looks as if we could be aiming to move early in September.
