Updating weight, I don't update gains, and only update half any loss that sticks for a couple of days.
Crying when angry, My aunt who taught me how to cry on cue, also clued me in on how to stop, sort of. Swallow. Swallow again. Swallow some more. Something about swallowing cuts off the flow. When I'm really angry I lose my voice, a real communication killer.
Lanette yes it is cool and foggy not smokey here, thank Goodness. Quite an improvement over last year. Heart goes out to all those suffering from fires and hazardous air in the west, flooding everywhere else. Hoping our AR, TX and PA gals are all safe!
pip I love your smile! Brave gal to smile so despite depression.
NYKaren stunning views and unfamiliar but beautiful flowers!
Wendy good eye, missed the "ghost snowflake" til you pointed her out. Guess I was drawn to the hellish sky.
Lisa not yet back in AR, how horrible to be thrown under the bus by a coworker. Testosterone perspective? Don't you work for the Girl Scouts? Hoping the road trip is the beginning of a beautiful friendship with your co-worker.
Rebecca that cat reminds me of Bunnicula
Rita safe travels, come on over to the coast where the air is clear and the fog is cool.
Allie Ugh! Seems like DMV takes up the better part of the day no matter where you are and what you need to accomplish.
Barbie so glad to hear the MRI is scheduled so soon! Down here in rural Curry County it can take weeks to just schedule one.
Lenora yah that root is right there, the plan is to plant the dwarf apple along side it and arrange the apple's roots under it to the other half. Hesitate to cut the root as can't tell if its one of the dead ones to the stumps or a live one to one of the trees holding up the slope ;}
Kay glad to hear from you sorry you've been feeling low.
Pat I bought a Roomba when they first came out and enjoyed it until it died. It was a real help for the daily dust and dog hair but really couldn't get to the edges. Still a real worksaver. Hmm, you're convincing me to try again!
Rye now that is a real RESCUE pup. Hooray!
Heather love your pub!
Welcome galinazo, MainlyLisa. Please let us know where you are to help us keep you all straight.
Here we are past the mid-month point and I see an unwelcome trend in my goal numbers. Blaming it on DH's brownies and red wine. Time to change direction NOW.
Lighter, lovelies!

Hi Everyone...about the tears when angry (and Hi LisainNC--I used to be LisainTX)...and generally overanalyzing things which makes things worse. I'm the worst at that, but recently came upon a way of thinking/therapy called ACT. There's a book called the Happiness Trap that's really interesting. If you, too, overanalyze esp about negative feelings and then feel angry or sad or frustrated that you have them in the first place, google it!
On an unrelated note, I haven't had a lot of time to read much in the communities, but have any of you posted "before" pics? I'm tempted...all the more for that accountability..but if *I* don't want to look at me in a swim suit, why would I subject others to it???4 -
Another good day, but my cholesterol was up, because I had 2 eggs over easy this morning. Loved them! I like a bit of a kick so I sprinkle a bit of cayenne pepper on the yolk part. My day.
I need to eat a bit more protein, but I ate the last of my yogurts, and cottage cheese. I do have turkey slices but I might throw that away. I need to think of new protein sources.
Hugs friends!

Finally I painted my cast. Took longer than I thought it would. I think it looks ok. I’m no professional.

Okie in the TX Hill Country who also cries when mad1 -
Terry-love the cast ....looks like something fun from Dr Seuss...
I am just exhausted..3 1/2 hrs waiting at the DMV to give them 151.00 ,I'm laying down , hopefully for a quick nap.1 -
Hi Sisters, so much of interest going on!
Rita, that blue jay is gorgeous. I bet you were so excited seeing it! We get kingfishers here that are intense blue. I always feel it's a special day when I see one.
Rye, I think rescue animals always give so much more than they take. The wild horses that I have rescued from slaughter have been the most amazing loving giving creatures. They definitely are the rescuers! Those photos you are taking are inspiring. For someone with vision troubles, you sure take a sharp photo! What camera and lense do you use to take them?
Karen, thanks for sharing your trip with us. I am enjoying the coastal walk and sea birds. I love virtual travelling!
Snowflake and Lisa, sounds like you have both been victims of Information Control, a form of mind control by those who like having power over others. I experienced it at the travel agency where I worked in the accounts. Information was withheld, and training was not given in working the system so that it was impossible for me to do my job without constantly calling the Help Desk. It was very stressful and time consuming. However, I knew from other sources that they did it on purpose, as they wanted to "centralize the accounting" and take over the control of the money. Hidden agendas... So glad I'm out of there now and I don't miss it one bit!
Heather, funny I was playing Feel It Still on my walk yesterday. I am half-dancing down the street, singing loudly and not caring what other people think! Thanks for feedback on my outfit. My daughter told me "the pink doesn't go!" and I am always wary of white jhods as they accentuate my heavy lower half. LOL. I looked up pics of the Hobbit and he is wearing a green vest and tan cordoroy-look knickerbockers. I am going to try on a pair of army green pants I have and see how that looks. Jhods, being skin-tight aren't really the best look for me. LOL
They have a Hobbit Shoppe in NZ (five hours drive from me where the movie set is located) and you can buy Hobbit ears and feet. I'm thinking about the ears!!! I know I wouldn't be able to use the feet as you need boots on around horses, but MAYBE they would fit over my boots. LOL I am silly aren't I? So many tragedies happening and I just want to dress up. Sorry for being so, so....childish. I do care, very much, about many things but I get depressed if I let myself think about them.
Time to go. Here is last night's play on GIMP:

Dr. Kay ~ Hugs! I know how you feel because I have not been able to exercise in a long time and just feel like a wobbly mass of blubber.
Wendy ~ You look so spiffy!
Lisa ~ Hugs! Sorry for the office conflict. Hope you feel better. I too cry at the drop of a hat. Embarassing! When I retired because of too much conflict, I cried and cried at my end of year celebration. I wish I could be one of those who gets mad and loudly confronts the offender(s).
Heather ~ I know that you pepare a lot of vegetables and wonder if too much fiber might be affecting your DH’s IBS.
Rye ~ You have such a cute smile while petting the pup.
Terry ~ Love your polka dots.
I finally updated my I phone to a I phone se (which is almost like a I phone 6). It is so nice to be able to get on the internet. I could not do that on my old I phone 4.
Ate lunch with two old friends from college and probably had way too many calories. That's the way this whole week has been. I will get brave in a couple of days and get on the scale to see what damage I have done. Need to get back on better eating plan.
Welcome to all who are new.

WENDY you look great
HEATHER didn't know your DH was an author too I have started reading book 1 of his Winfrith series, I love historical crime stuff.
Had lunch with 2 BFs today, nice to catch up

Hi all! Brand new here! I’m 50
And would love to be friends with other 50 yo’s that are striving for the same thing as me, losing the weight and getting healthy! My name is Linda and I started my journey 6 weeks ago when I couldn’t even walk a mile without sitting down a few times along the way. I’ve come along since then, but have a long way to go. Just looking for motivation, some humor, accountability to go along with everything else. Tonite I have an appointment to start my weight training besides my cardio. Looking forward to building some muscle and not so much flab! Hey, thanks for listening. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Rita - we have both Stellar's jays and Scrub jays in our backyard and it gets pretty noisy. They are so much fun to watch - the Stellar's mimics other birds too.
Wendy - you look like a little teenager in your cute outfit and love the photo you just posted! That's Esmeralda, right?
Terry - your cast looks fabulous!!
Pip - you mentioned you still can't believe your weight loss is real (something like that, I can't find the post right now). This past year or so, doing the strength training and weight coming off even though I was still really into the sweets and junk food, I thought I must have cancer or something. Amazing what exercise will do and allows us to get away with. A bonus with the lower carb/higher good fat program I've been on the past month or so is that my body now has a new set point... around 158. After years of holding at 173 no matter what a decade or so ago, then settling in at 167 then 163. The 158 really has been effortless-- when I started paying attention to eating better and not worrying about the weight is when the magic started to happen. I was in the upper 190's about 15 years ago. Weightwatchered it down a few pounds at a time.
So grateful for MFP and you gals who steered me in the right direction!!
I think last time I had a good cry was reading the book "Will's Red Coat" about the outpouring of love in a community over the passing of a little dog, lol. At work? Don't think I got emotional really unless unfairly accused of doing something by a supervisor who doesn't know the whole story then BAM! No crying, just plenty of WORDS on my part. Loud, lol. The challenge was keeping the cuss words to a minimum.

Carol - The thing is it doesn't seem to be affected by what he eats. We have always eaten masses of veg and his IBS has come and gone away completely before with no change in diet. I would like him to do a "poo sticks" test just to rule out bowel cancer, but he is not keen. He is very susceptible to anxiety and panic attacks and I do think the moving stress is causing this problem. He is feeling a bit better at the moment after my campaign to take his mind off things.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
Thanks, y’all. I’m feeling somewhat better today. Yes, Carol, wobbly mass of blubber describes the feeling well. Today I dropped two weeks of allowance at the hair and nail salon and took the ugly old-lady Capri outfit to my aunt who thought it was beautiful. My toenails had not been cut sinc three days before breaking my ankle, so that pedicure was way overdue. I had my hair highlighted and low-lighted, my eyebrows waxed, and am wearing my leggings which make my legs look skinny. I’ve stuck to the eating plan so far and plan to have a hamburger cabbage casserole for supper which is supposed to mimic lasagna without the noodles.
Lisa, I am so sorry you had such a horrible day at work. I, too, tend to cry when I am mad.
Welcome, new people!7 -
Katla – Three days without Facebook and I feel I have been raised from the dead. No migraine today. Need to call my surgeon and find out something different than Miralax. It isn’t doing much, if anything.
Barbie – I was given an Ativan before a CT scan after I went through a 45-minute MRI. I took it just as we got into town, wasn’t sure it was going to work, waited maybe 10 minutes, got up and walked to the door and remember being told to ‘lay back on the table’. That is the ‘last’ thing I remember, at all. Until Trey walked me into the house.
Drkatiebug – It is difficult to get back into a program when you have it interrupted by an injury. Even when my wrist was broken, I could not hang on to the treadmill, therefore, I stopped doing it,
Sorry about your husband’s friend. Hope he is recovering and can get back in the swing of tings.
Wendy – Like your outfit and you are looking good. Guess all that horsing around keeps you in shape.
Jazzypdc – We’re going to spend a week with youngest son and his family in Louisiana, can you say, ‘oh, wrong choices’. Going to Destin, FL a couple of days earlier.
Pip – They ready to go, NOW!
Barbara – No, I would not cut the root either. I find it hard to believe that the soil was that hard. We have a clay base to our soil, so it will dry out if not watered or raining. But, you can ‘knock’ it off when you need to. The soil where our youngest son lives in Louisiana is like gray concrete. When it dries, the ground has cracks in it that you think you will fall into; but, when it is wet, then dries, you won’t get it off without the help of a jackhammer. He gets out there and rises off their vehicles just so it won’t dry to it.
Mainelyloisa – My dear youngest son and his wife’s wedding was when I was the heaviest @ 199lb; Tami had a book made up for us for Christmas that year and I wanted to cry; I looked so ‘frumpy’. Taking off more than 40lbs was an eye-opener, especially when my GP, who had not seen me since I had lost the last 20lb, said, well, think about it this way, you were carrying around a big bag on potting soil on your body. I told him that the last time we bought a 40lb bag of potting soil, I was unable to lift it; even helping Louis – couldn’t do it. He, on the other hand, lifted it up over his shoulder (he is 76 and still works like a 35-year-old.
I’m also a ‘cry when I’m mad’ type of woman. Social worker said that is the ‘toxins’ getting out of your body and he did not allow Kleenex in his sessions.
Yep, Aretha Franklin will be missed a lot. Grew up with her music and other good music.
What possesses a man to kill his pregnant wife and 2 small daughters? To me, that is grounds for the Death Penalty and isolation 23 out of 24.
Last time I got weighed at a MD’s office I weighed 157.4lbs. YEAH! Lowest I’ve been since starting on this journey.
Will be walking on the beach on the Gulf in a week! YEAH!!!!!

Margaret: I also eat the stems of broccoli along with the tops. Yum! I've loved broccoli ever since I was a kid. (Back then I slathered it with mayonnaise. Too bad I can't still get away with that.)
Rita: I'm at the northern edge of the state and our air quality is better today than yesterday. I hope this continues to improve. :flowerforyou:
Terry: I love your cast. The color choices are great, and so are the polkadots! It makes me smile. I hope you feel better soon.
Wendy: I agree with Kate UK. You look great! :flowerforyou:
Lanette: I just printed a food pyramid based on The Real Skinny On Fat. Good fats, meats, fish, nuts and seeds are the base; green veggies & colorful sweet peppers are in the middle; and fruit is at the top. It makes great sense to me.
Lenora: I'm glad you're feeling better!!! Enjoy your upcoming walk at the beach.
I received a message from my riding teacher offering a lesson on Sunday. I am ready!!! I don't know what time it will be yet. The homeowners association is having our paved parking and inner drives treated with a sealer on Saturday & Sunday. I get to escape and have fun! YAY!!!!!

Lenora, you are my weight loss twin, lol. In 2003 when my mom died, someone took a photo of my brother, sister and myself in front of her casket (taking photos of folks lying "in state" with living family members is the norm in my family). I looked at the photo a few months later and thought "who is that BIG lady standing next to my sibings?" Well DUH it was me!!
Right after that I went to WW (again, have been going off and on since early 70's) and weight down, back up, back down, etc. I must say this past year is the longest I've stayed on an ever better path to health in my whole life.
Someone asked about getting more fiber. I have discovered avocado is amazingly high in fiber. I normally eat a whole small one chopped up on top my salad, the flesh weights 2 to 3 oz. If I have a smallish medium one, I'll eat the whole thing as well. Chock full of healthy fat and fiber. What a great combo! And keeps things moving right along.
Katla - where did you find that Skinny on Fat food pyramid? I need to print it out and put it on the fridge. I really love this eating plan as well. For supper I had a huge salad with romaine, chopped cabbage, small avocado (as mentioned above) and 1/4 c canned salmon with bones and skin. AND homemade Dijon vinaigrette with lots of olive oil, basalmic vinegar, a bit of lemon juice, a little minced garlic and onion plus a few drops of maple syrup. I can't think of anything better than that - I don't know of any restaurant meal I'd like better. Hooray for our improved air quality!!
Beth - so glad to hear you are able to get back to some strength training! Even when my back goes out I try to at least get the arm exercises done with the 10# weights.
Heather - your pub meal sounded great. Watching "DI Lynley" (am in series 4 right now) and every time I see someone in a British pub I think of you and Kate.
OK ladies, time to clean up the kitchen - have a great evening! And welcome new gals!!
Lanette
Cooler SW WA State3 -
Spent all morning weeding flower beds. Still have a lot more to do
I also cry when I get angry or frustrated. Must be a woman thing.
Terry love the cast you painted. You did a great job.
Heather- we had a pub around the corner when we lived in Weatherfield England. Never went there but it was quaint.
Katie bug- hope the spa day helped your mood. I looked in The mirror at the hair dressers and thought, I look frumpy. Looked better after hair color, highlights and cut.
Golf tomorrow but weather is suppose to be hot so may not finish 18 holes.
SueBDew in TX3 -
DrKatie, I was so happy to read of your spa day. What a wonderful way to take care of yourself.
Wendy, your last horse pic is my favorite so far. You could make cards out of them.
Barbie, good luck with the MRI tomorrow. I’ll be thinking of you.
Well was really off balance today. I think I’m just getting tired of the scooter and not taking care. Back hurts tonight from twisting my body around trying to put dots on the back of my cast. Lol
Well in bed and ready to read.
