    I take a turmeric (curcumin) capsule with black pepper every day. I buy them from Amazon. They are BIG! It's the highest dose, I think. I also have curry fairly often with turmeric in it. I also take a beetroot capsule twice a day for my blood pressure.

    Hi all! Haven't posted for awhile, have been reading so at least I'm caught up on what everyone is doing!
    {{{{HUGS}}}} to those with hurting physically and mentally. (Gentle hugs for the physical hurts!)
    Many congrats to those who are managing to stay on track despite obstacles. I have come to the conclusion that exercise is not enough, I really do need to pay attention to what I eat. I've come to this conclusion before, but I keep forgetting. I also need to do more in the way of exercise, the 30 min of cardio isn't cutting it. Again, something I have known for some time, but..... Anyway, starting fresh today (again!). Working on eating properly today, and getting to bed at a reasonable hour. I'm hurrying at the gym because I get there so late, that I don't want to stay longer, but I can't get there earlier because I stay up too late to get up early.... It really is a vicious circle! So, as I said working on getting to bed earlier which will get me an earlier start. It will also prevent some of those late night munchie attacks, after all, if I'm already in bed, I can't be in the kitchen eating! lol
    I really feel for those who would like to or who need to see a Dr, but can't due to financial reasons. It sure makes me grateful for our universal medical coverage! Because of the province I'm in (BC), we do pay for our medical, but the new provincial gov't is cutting our premiums and the plan is to eliminate them in the next year or so. Even at full price, tho, we were only paying $150 per month for the two of us. That gets us unlimited access to our dr, specialists (if you can get an appointment, the waiting lists are LONG!) as well as hospital care. Physio is not covered, nor is chiropractic and I know there are some other things that aren't covered, but still..... The premiums have been been cut by 50% so far, looking forward to when they are eliminated totally. The drawback is that employers are now going to be taxed depending on what their payroll is so employers with large staffs will get taxed higher, small businesses may not get taxed at all. It will be a bookkeeping nightmare, in my mind, but fortunately not my problem. I think that way is wrong, I think it should just come out of income tax, that is the fair way, in my mind, to do it. That way, those who make more, pay more, those who make less, pay less. Or at least that's how it works in a perfect world...
    Can't remember who has the tree stump that they want to get rid of, but I think there is a product out there that you can put in the stump to help speed up the process. You might try googling "tree stump decay" and see what pops up.
    Machka, Happy Anniversary!! How nice that your hubby was able to go for a bike ride! Very wise of you to choose a path that is closed to vehicular traffic to start with. Watched your grad videos, very nice! Many congrats there also, you truly are an inspiration! Hope you can chip away at the iceberg of paperwork that needs doing. Brilliant idea borrowing a space at work!

    Pat in OH: We take turmeric in capsule form. It is a natural anti-inflammatory. We originally read about its value in the AARP Newsletter. I also found an article on healthline .com, and have discussed it with my doctor. All the information I've found is positive. Good luck. :smiley:

    Rye: I am so sorry to hear about the insurance mess up. I've noticed some of the providers I use have adopted something like a membership model. You pay a lower monthly fee, and you get your medical visits at their clinic at greatly reduced price. I think Lanette has participated in a program like this...

    Speaking of insurance. I don't have any serious pre-existing health issues. I was applying for a plan that will save me about $300 per month vs what I pay now through COBRA. Do you know that I got DECLINED because of being diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma (inflamation of a nerve) and getting a cortisone shot!!!! The podiatrist laughed his head off. Insurance agent is filing an appeal. The system in our country is run by 'kitten'-heads.

    Yesterday we got sad news that DH's girlfriend lost her condo in the Lahaina fire. Then, this AM, it seems it was spared. Crossing fingers latter is correct. Right now I am watching Reuben "measure twice and cut once" on the mantle tile. Can't wait to see this phase done. I'm in awe of people who can build things. I will spend the day doing some exercise in the gym and/or pool and poking along with my photo scanning project.

    Today shall be a good day for me!
    Breakfast- yogurt w/ walnuts
    Snack - baby bell cheese
    Lunch- homemade sausage, cabbage and rice soup
    Snack- cup of red grapefruit
    Dinner- cottage cheese, pickled cucumbers with balsamic dressing
    Snack- walnuts, coffee

    Went shopping and have my normal foods that I love!
    Things that I love:
    -Greek vanilla yogurt with a couple of walnuts
    -my homemade cabbage, sausage and rice soups
    - pickled cucumbers with cottage cheese
    - Kashi oatmeal and dark chocolate chip cookies
    - Simply orange and mango juice
    - Steamed zucchini with balsamic dressing
    - Salmon from a pouch, on Wasa crisp bread layered with fresh spinach leaves and a slice of havarti cheese
    - Going to be at 9 pm, and getting up at 8 am
    - Typing to y'all💗👍

    :) We had a bonanza today. One friend came with a box of home grown cucumber, lemon cucumber, plums, blackberries, and figs. Another came with a bowl of homemade rice pudding.

    Back in Arkansas, safe, sound, exhausted.

    Egg and the DH and son all happy to see me... stretching out in my recliner, will catch things up tomorrow. Just glad to not be driving. Left Amarillo at 5:15 a.m., made Arkansas by noon. Took the DH and son lunch at The Meadows (what I woke up calling the mountain house... don't know why), then came down the mountain while they're demoing the ceiling on the bedroom that we'll be moving into, hopefully by October.

    More tomorrow...

    Rye - YOU LOOK FABULOUS!!! I'd never seen your before photos before. You can tell all of your exercise has really paid off too because you are buff! So sorry to hear about your medical insurance mess. I suffered with Rosacea and was on tetracycline for years... it was more than just a red face, it was the acne/pimples too. Being in the sun makes it worse, tho when I was on the meds I had to stay out of the sun anyhow. Good news was that once I reached meno, all of that went away. I still flush when in the sun or an occasional "flash" but otherwise my skin finally cleared up.

    Rori The medical plan that refused you is something else. In our state, many physicians no longer take Medicaid patients and if they do, it's often a long wait. Then they wonder why the ER's are crowded with patients suffering from sore throats and splinters.

    You are correct, we use "Direct Care" docs who don't take insurance. DH and I pay $60 each per month for unlimited visits. They have many of the drugs we need right there at a fraction of the price of a pharmacy, a savings even after a co-pay for insurance. They have deals with labs and MRI/Ultrasound facilities, again cash payment for a fraction of what insurance is. Ours isn't "concierge care" as our docs have a larger patient load. We pay for this in addition to Medicare, and I've noticed they have a LOT of gray-haired patients, so we aren't the only ones.

    Every direct care clinic has different pricing and provides different services - we are very happy with ours and it's ideal for a predominantly low-income and retirement area.

    - does your medical philosophy extend to alternative things like medical cannabis? Reason I ask is that a person can get tinctures with half THC for relaxation and half CBD for inflammation. I sometimes take half a dropperful at night if my back is hurting. Getting a good night's sleep is half the battle sometimes. When my DH had a compression fracture 6 or 8 years ago, he self-medicated through that healing process. o:)>:) and wore the clamshell brace. Sounds like a lot of nice goodies arrived this morning - enjoy!

    - thanks for the info on your DH's drop-foot. I consulted with YouTube Physical Therapy and have been doing some massage and exercises and it's doing better. I will check with my chiro on Monday and if he treats for this - after all, it's a nerve branching off the Sciatica - if so, I'll give that a try and cancel my doc visit. Also will stop at the gym and see how I do on the treadmill. Asphalt pavement is hard on a person's feet no matter what; no wonder my feet hurt.

    Also am checking into yoga instruction and there's a "movement" studio in town that looks great...everyone is BAREFOOT however and I can no longer walk on hard surfaces like bare floors without discomfort and need shoes with pressure relieving insoles. I see there are "yoga shoes" but doesn't look like they have much support. I'll ask at the gym. I am fine going barefoot a little bit at home on double carpeting- a throw rug over the wall to wall. Not sure that yoga mats would be that cushy but I see they do make extra thick ones that I'll check into. Foot doc wants to give me another steroid shot but I think that's what got me into this fix in the first place. :(

    Allie - you have my sympathy with your achey feet! Hope next week is better. I found some Keen Presidio shoes on super sale locally - they aren't cushy but they are really comfortable and didn't need breaking in. Look a little like clod hoppers but I don't care.

    Lanette💗👍, I'm glad some of my choices help ya! I have already changed up my dinner and added some shitaki mushrooms, and zucchini that I will just steam and toss with the balsamic dressing. I think I'm eating 150 grams of each about. Then with my 10 English seedless cucumbers that I have cut up and marinating in pickle juice, and my 1/2 cup of cottage cheese 4% large curd creaminess, it's a feast! I have a Kashi cookie with a cuppa for lunch, AND one tonight with my evening cuppa! Eating healthy is all about food I love and snacks!

    Sitting out on my patio with the pooch with my Bluetooth speaker playing Frank Sinatra radio from Pandora..it's overcast but comfortable out....I really have to get used to being on my own...I get bored quick...and then I stuff my face.... Which is not good..
