I have enough clothes to last me the rest of my life! I plan on living at least 30 more years… Shoes both campers are full and I still have a container full in storage! Purses I have 8 and I generally don't carry one because I usually forget it or lose it!

Dr. Katie: Walking is a great plan as long as weather is cooperative. Many people walk in malls during inclement weather. The nearest mall to us is ridiculously far away through nasty traffic. That is why I appreciate my local gym membership, which is paid for by our healthcare insurance and gives me access to yoga classes and stationary bikes & other good things.
Heather: It sounds as though your DH & family did a good job remembering your birthday and letting you know you’re important to them. CONGRATULATIONS!
Viv: Thanks for the reminder to be thankful.
Machka: Great advice to Dandi 1986 regarding protecting broken ribs.
Lisa: I’m betting your event will be a staggering success.
Barbara: It is DD who has a remarkable attitude. DH & I are both less willing to face such a big challenge. I think of us as practical and sensible. I’m keeping my mouth shut as much as I can, although I am the product of a family of unasked for advice givers. Which is why I suggested the idea of talking to her county extension agent.
Carol: Get a doctor’s note that you need a handicapped parking hanger & take it to your Department of Motor Vehicles. I suspect they’ll give you one on the spot. That is all that DH had to do. :flowerforyou:
Regarding feet & shoes—I have narrow feet and have always had a tough time finding shoes that fit. I’m better off in the footwear department right now than ever before. I now own one pair of black dress boots that fit but need thick socks, and black leather sandals that are dressy enough to wear with nice clothes on dressy occasions. I recently bought a pair of SAS walking shoes that are an absolute delight. (It is rare that I find shoes that fit my narrow feet well.) I also have hiking boots that I’ve owned for years and they fit well enough, too. Most of my growing up years I had blisters on my heels from poorly fitting saddle shoes.

Katla I hear you on the blisters!
Most people are unaware how lucky they are to be able to buy shoes that fit properly. I have a dozen or so pairs of shoes, but have probably never had any that fit properly except shoes that slip on (slide or clog style without backs).
I can not wear 99% of sandals (leather or worse, fake leather or plastic , directly in my feet means blisters. My backs of the heel is also shaped differently from most, so any shoe with a proper back immediately causes blisters. The gym shoe ‘slide’ style saved my life for walking, (think easy spirit) and I have a half dozen or so as back-ups as I fear the style will go ‘out of style’ and then I won’t be able to find walking shoes.
This is one more reason I don’t run, I can not find running shoes that support properly and do not cause painful blisters. My heel just doesn’t fit into standard shoes, especially gym shoes (trainers) which tend to have a built up bump exactly where I get constant blisters. lol- not that I want to run, so it does afford me a nice excuse!

Hi again all and thank you for the birthday wishes.
Unexpectedly I have had a really nice birthday, with more to come.
My brother came over with a big bunch of flowers and a bottle of wine. My son's AF champagne arrived in time to chill it for lunch, which was a delicious light bite. My brother thought the AF champagne was real.
I had lots of cards.
We managed to pack my brother home and set off for the shopping expedition. I didn't find a pink handbag, but did find some black ankle boots I really wanted and some PINK leather gloves!!!!!! Lovely. I'm going to wash my pink silk Paris scarf really carefully and it will all go beautifully with my 2 years old grey tweed coat. I have a great black bag DH bought me years ago and have hardly used.
In the same shop they had some very much reduced men's white leather tennis shoes, very trendy, for £14 ($17?) Ex display. DH'size. DH bought them at my prompting. Bargain. Great for next year's cruises.
For dinner we bought Dover Sole and asparagus. For a starter half a Scotch Egg each. Homemade one. To go with our own stewed plums I bought clotted cream. Plus my favourite cheese and fresh figs. All to be washed down with real champagne.
House wise the committee are meeting for the lending today and should have it sorted by the end of the week for exchange soon. Our sellers are prepared to wait. I will believe it when I see it. I told DH this morning I was happy to stay here if it all fizzled out. But you never know.
Looking forward to my imminent champagne and Scotch Egg.

All the shoes I wear for walking are made by New Balance. They are all expensive but fit, are comfortable, and last a long time. When I found the first pair, I said, "If it works, don't fix it " Now NB is the only brand I buy. I have wide feet and they have a size that fits me. We are headed for the shoe store as soon as Jake gets dressed
This is a blog post about the way I dress:

Rebecca - I think you were smart to say no, if you didn't want to do it. I am a people pleaser, I used to say yes to everything just to please others. Years ago my husband sent me to an assertiveness training class, I learned a lot from it. He will tell you that I only ever use that training on him though. LOL One of the things that I learned was you can just say no without giving a reason. I do that now when I do say no.
Heather - Happy Birthday! Sounds like you are going to have a great day. I hope your brother is coming to just see you on your birthday.
Barbie - I need new shoes desperately. I own flip flops, high boots for leggings, one pair of dress shoes, my walking sneakers and one pair of sandals. I have been watching shoes quite regularly but am finding it very difficult to find any I like in recent years. Good luck on your shopping excursion.
Margaret - I love you new carpet, very neutral. I like to redecorate regularly with pillows and colours so I tend to go for neutrals with the big purchases.
Sharon - That is smart to get your food purchased before your surgery so it's already there. No big expense afterward.
Tammy - I have started that 30 day Plank Challenge twice now. I should really start it again and actually finish it this time.
Carol - I'm not sure how difficult it is in Georgia, but here you can just ask your doctor for a note and they will give you one.
Viv - Sorry to hear about your Dad.
Karen in VA - I don't know how you can homeschool and then work in the evening too. I find I am exhausted after just doing something all day.
Mary - So happy for you that you decided to take Shep back
Machka - The year that we moved from NB to AB Christmas Day reached 18 celcius. My girls and I left NB Christmas night on the bus in the middle of a tremendous snowstorm. My husband was here already and was enjoying a walk outside in his shorts and t-shirt. We arrived Dec 28th by New Years day it plummeted to -25. I remember hearing about the trees budding in December that year and then people were worried about the sudden change in temperature for their health.
Lisa- I don't like sitting in meetings all day either. I find them very tiring.
Okie - I used to be a purse person. We had a house fire in 2005 and I lost about 20 of them. I have since not really bought many. I think I own 3 right now.
Grammar - I apologize to all of the people with pet peeves about grammar. I know mine is atrocious! I suffered greatly all through school trying to keep all of the rules straight. I tend to have long run on sentences. My Grandmother was a teacher and helped me with my homework nightly. Finally when I went back to school as an adult I had the "I" and "Me" explained to me in a way that made sense and I do much better with it now. Barbara I love what you said about correcting grammar mistakes being more hurtful than helpful. My husband corrects me and I find it very hurtful. It makes me angry. He thinks I just don't like to be corrected. I find it embarrassing and am ashamed, so I get angry.
Public Speaking - I have had to take a couple of courses that involved public speaking, it is still not something I will ever enjoy doing. I am nauseous at the thought of it, but I know that if I practice my notes and my speech beforehand I can get it through it and am generally well received.
Cracked Ribs - I had a cracked rib once. It was sort of funny how it happened. My husband and I were at a concert for Aaron Tippin, we had floor seats. There were some tall people right in front of us, my husband without warning tried to pick me up so I could see better. He hadn't warned me ahead of time so I twisted as he lifted. His thumb slid in between my ribs and cracked two of them. I didn't realize until after the concert and on the drive home when I couldn't catch my breath that something was wrong. We ended up stopping at the hospital on the way. Cracked ribs with 2 children one of them a toddler was not fun at all. I don't envy anyone with that pain.
Today I decided that I would use all of my downtime at work and being alone in the office better. I have started doing the Leslie Sansone Happy Mile walk each hour. This will free up my evening and by the end of the day I should have 6 miles in! I'll see if this is sustainable for the month and if it helps jump start my weight loss.

I’m out and on my way home. Everything went well. Colonoscopy clear. Endoscopy shows some inflammation. I will do their drugs for the two weeks until I see the Doc and then bargain to control with diet.
Okie.2 -
I am like Barbie, it’s not the public speaking that gets me, it’s the one on one. I have worked very, very hard over the years to be better at the one-on-one with some success, but it’s still hard. Just this past Sunday I had to go into a strange church and deliver a sermon to a congregation who had just been told that their pastor would not be returning. Talk about a challenge!
Rye, have you tried blister-free socks with perhaps a half-size bigger shoe? Sometimes it’s the socks that cause the problem. Getting fitted in a real running store can sometimes help, too. My brand of preference for running shoes is Brooks. They are not cheap either, but I’ve gotten into a schedule of replacing mine just when the new style comes out and the old one goes on sale.
Re grammar, I know I may make mistakes in usage from time to time, yet I am annoyed when others do so. Just call me a hypocrite! I am not as annoyed by “Me and Dave went to the store” as I am by “Mama brought some cookies to Dave and I.” I know I’m weird. I agree that correcting people is rude and obnoxious. I try to give grace while inwardly cringing. Other pet peeves of mine are irregardless, alright (which is working its way into acceptability, I think), and “her and I.”
But while we’re whining........ you know what annoys me the most these days? The fact that Apple thought it was a good idea to switch the emoji key and the number/punctuation key on the iPad keyboard. That is sheer craziness!
And for those of you who are annoyed by people who start sentences with conjunctions, I’m sorry,5 -
Okie glad all is well with the colonoscopy. I just love how much lighter I felt afterwards, and yes, some of those lbs will come right back, but enjoy the lighter feeling and get in a well deserved nap.
Kelly you are working such long hours!
I skipped the gym today because my neck is so sore I may go for a walk before the weather turns for the worse.
I love New Balance sneakers, they are expensive but they last, (I add orthodics as well). As for wardrobe, I definitely have a capsule like style with plenty of repetition and a typical musician look---lots of black! But Heather pink gloves and a gray coat sound stunning! (i could never carry that look!)

HEATHER: Late to the party but wishing you a very happy birthday. It sounds like it was a really good celebration!
KATLA & TRACY: I have asked my ortho doctor twice about getting a handicapped parking permit and was told that they won't give you one until after you have had knee surgery and it would only be for 6 months. My DH's vascular/heart doctor gave him one with no problem. I guess when I go back to my internist I will talk to her about it. It is not only my knees but being out of breath on the least bit of exercise.
SHOES: Since I have gained so much weight (123 to 170) my feet have gotten larger. I used to wear a 5-1/2 shoe and now need a 7. Haven't been able to find any shoes that seem comfortable. BARBIE: DH has New Balance and likes them a lot.
Got the cortisone shot in both knees, went to Kroger and got a flu shot, and then went to the AT&T store to see about signing up for their services to replace the XFinity service. The deal was cinched when I got home from the AT&T store and our Comcast internet went out. Because our home phone is hooked in with the internet, we missed the call from the refrigerator repairman and he decided not to come. Everything in the frig is melting. DH put 3 bags of ice inside hoping to save some of the food. The repairman is supposed to come back at 4 PM which is right now. We will see. Hope we don't have to replace the frig and hope all the food (which is quite a lot) doesn't completely ruin.

Barbie--Thanks for keeping us going another month. I pray your back keeps getting better each day.
Machka--I agree this adult thing is not all it's cracked up to be, But I also believe you have stepped up and done a great job with all you have had to deal with and learn this last year.
Okie--Happy B-lated birthday! Your lunch sounds very good.
Heather--Happy birthday!
Margaret--Thanks for sharing about the home tour. Sounds very interesting. I admit when I am walking in the evening I like looking in the big windows of homes that are lit up. It's like seeing into someone's life for just a second.
Meg--glad you made it back safe and sound. It's this weather crazy, been so cool this last week I even had the fireplace on in the evenings and now today is to be almost 80 and tomorrow 90 then back to 50-60.
Rebecca--I understand how you feel, I am just not comfortable going anywhere without DH for more then a couple hours. I usually talk myself out of it and don't go.
Mary--My heart is happy that you and Shep are back together.
Viv--Sorry for the news about your dad. Sending hugs and prayers for both of you.

Heather - yay on the pink gloves! And a double yay on the news about your buyers! I am glad you have been having a very happy birthday!
Tracey- thanks! I think we both are happy!
Barbie- I love new balance tennis shoes! That is also the only brand I buy for comfort and fit my wide feet. I think it is from going barefoot as a child!

Feet - Like Rye, I have narrow feet. My heels slip in almost all boots and lots of shoes. It has been that way all my life. I have found that pointy toed flats tend to run more narrow in the heel too. I have several styles/colors of pointy toed flats.
One odd thing today, the tech in the surgical room said something about me feeling more cold during the prep because I’m thin. That still seems weird to hear my name and thin in the same sentence. Don’t get me wrong, I see thin in the mirror but my mind still thinks plus size and obese.
Okie6 -
OAKIE: Were you ever really overweight? I just can't imagine.1

You are too sweet Peach. I was obese with a BMI of 30.92. I know that’s not the gospel, but it is an indicator of where I started.

I have two female cousins that swear by New Balance. They both have Fibromyalgia and say these are the only shoes they can walk in for any length of time.

Just watched an old Midsomer Murders. Perfect birthday fodder.
All the food was heavenly! Best fish ever!
DYS rang to rearrange our babysitting duties. We are now going next week for two nights. That's better.
Very tired now after two nights very truncated sleep.
Back to the old routine tomorrow. It was lovely to take the day off.
Barbie - my running shoes are New Balance, I like them because they have good arch support for my pronation. Mine are PINK!
Karen - most of the time I slop around in no makeup and sports gear. I look a real mess and feel it. I depress myself. When I scrub up I like to rock a very smart casual look, veering towards smart. It's much less than once a week, but it feels good. Cheers me up. I have a teeny, tiny wardrobe. Neutral basics with splashes of bright, jewel colours. I like a young, put together, look. My DH has loads more clothes than me! I wear things for years. Today when I replaced my old ankle boots, which I wear a lot, I threw the old ones straight in the bin. I am striving for minimal in everything.
Hope to sleep well tonight.

Running Shoes - Another Brooks girl here, in fact, hub got me a new pair for my Birthday. It is time to replace mine and I wasn't real happy with the latest iteration of my preferred style so he bought me a new style. They are very clunky looking, but for my exercise, they are perfect. Not something I would wear out and about with normal clothes. My friends with wide feet prefer new balance or Hoku.
Okie0 -
Okie I get the same type of feeling. I started out a similar BMI (but didn’t wear near as well as you did in that pic! ) and am now at the top end of normal. Medium size clothes are generally too big, but small size are usually too tight. So I still don’t like the way I look in clothes and my mind still calls me “fat”.
Not sure how to bring my mind’s eye up to date, lol.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that! I think I would have been a good anthropologist. I love exploring how others live.1
