Lisa, reading your blog just makes me smile so much! Happy for you that the moving process is happening!
Felicia, I hope I've got the right person and that it is you who lost her sister last year. Don't be so hard on yourself, losing a close family member isn't something you get over. It's been almost 8 years since I lost my mom and I still get quite teary sometimes. There doesn't seem to be a trigger, I just get blindsided by it. I j7st accept it and try to come up with a happy memory, fortunately there are lots of those.

So much wisdom on this thread lately, can't remember everything that I wanted to comment on so just going to say a general "thank you" to all of you. Every one of you adds a little bit of good to my day! Thanks also for all the great pics of pets and people, love them!

Phew! Now we can get going on organising our move. The final legal stuff isn't completed until moving day, but there is a big penalty for dropping out beforje then, so it rarely happens.
I tried to redirect mail online this morning, but it wasn't having it. Will have to go in to the Post Office.

DH has to organise house insurance and telephone/wifi.

We are MEGA relieved.

Rebecca - How exciting! There is a store here that sells overripe bananas for 50% off, but you have to buy a whole “bag” last time I was looking at them the smallest bag was 4lbs…

Well, one of the many things I have been doing in the last 10 years since losing my corporate job and opening my own business has been driving friends to things they needed a ride to (airport, doctors appt…) I do far less of it now then I did back when I was first laid off. But tonight (3:45am on Friday morning) I am picking up a friend and taking her to San Francisco – so headed to bed soon, as I’ll be up at 3:15am to get to her house – then 2 hours of driving and back home about 5:45 to get Levi and take him for a walk, and then a full day, and off to a high school football game in the evening… I’ll sleep well tomorrow night!

Many of you know that my husband had an accident at work on March 22 which resulted in a severe brain injury and a few other injuries. He was in a coma for 2 weeks, neuro ward for a long time, then rehab.

My husband returned home on July 2 and commenced community rehab. Yesterday, he was discharged from community rehab. He still has some Dr appointments and will move into another system which will assist with higher level recovery, so there is still some recovery needed, but he has done better than expected.

He has even started cycling again, carefully on the cycleway using his step-through Bike Friday.

We'll both be at the Northern Nouveau Series, an Audax cycling series, in northern Tasmania on the weekend of Oct 26-28, organising and supporting the rides. I am so glad that he'll be able to be there with me!!

Machka - So happy for you, and him, that he has made such great progress. It is a tribute to his strength and fitness, and your devoted care, that he has done so well. I'm sure the cycling is contributing greatly to his recovery. I know there are still challenges, and probably always will be, but I can remember that terrible blackness and despair you were in earlier in the year. It looked so very bad. The brain is so very much more flexible than we once thought, thank goodness, and you have been a great team. Well done!

Only had one awake hour in the night! I re-read, MEDITATION FOR FIDGETY SCEPTICS, by Dan Harris, which has really helped me get through this moving business.

I'm doing mini meditations when I'm feeling stressed, or before sleep. I like the style of his two books. No woo woo nonsense. Very human.

Today is mail redirection, scheduling a hair trim and sending off removal forms. Oh, and another kitchen drawer to declutter. I looked inside it a few days ago and managed to discard 5 wooden spoons, but there is more to do. I'm trying to keep my writing going most days and have succeeded. I was in the middle of my morning session yesterday when the phone rang to tell us we'd exchanged! That put an end to that! :laugh: DH will think about utilities. We've done tv and wifi etc.

I've organised my cleaner to come on the packing day, the day before completion and actual moving, so she can clean behind the guys as they clear rooms. Clean cupboards etc. I will also clean, but I remember last time I nearly killed myself hoovering etc and I am 9 years older now! I may borrow an extra hoover as one of ours is a Dyson and runs out of puff in twenty minutes. The other is held together with gaffer tape! Lots of kitchen/utility cupboards to clean as well. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I don't want to leave it a mess. Too much pride! She is happy to earn the money and is really sad we are going.

We are paying for a full packing service - v expensive, but worth it at our age, but we are unpacking boxes at the other end. Want to take my time and maybe discard more stuff!

Morning ladies and here are the crack of dawn...been awake since probably 1:30 am ..thinking of everything I have to do today....move a bunch of stuff and go grocery shopping...
Still have a pit in my stomach that Tom is off to Florida with Elena..I remember those rides and it was fun,and how I loved our place down there..oh well get my butt off the pity pot.and put my big girl pants on and deal with it...
Just looked at the portal for my Drs office,and when it's staring you in the face morbidly obese is not something you want to see..today is grocery shopping day and I pray I make good choices..

Happy Friday, My DD wrote to tell us that she misses the change of season and my apple pie! You can bet that will be one of the first things I bake for her when she returns next month-about 5 week before she returns home and we are so looking forward to hugging her!

Long day ahead, lots of good snacks packed and exercise clothes so the day will be a positive one.

NYKAREN - We are about half an hour's walk, at my pace, from their house. We are on a frequent bus route, so in inclement weather that will be the choice. The bus stops outside the best fish and chip shop in the south of England. We can take our supper to them.

We are buying bicycles, so that is another choice. Their school is around the same distance from us for pick ups. Taxis are not too pricey down there, so if all else fails ........
My son didn't want us to be on the doorstep (wisely) and I know DH prefers the more suburban, low rise nature of our area, much nearer the sea. The light is brighter and it is calm. If I were on my own I would move further in, but we have little shops and a café just around the corner. We can see the sea from our front gate. There is a train station into central Brighton just ten minutes walk away.
I love the light where we are. You really feel you are by the sea. But happy we are not on the seafront where the wind can rip you apart in the winter.

Gradually ticking items off my list.

Heather, again this morning, feeling SO pleased for you... Such an exciting time ahead as you fully explore your new house, your new city, your new life.

And... I'm typing this at 5:30 a.m. in the mountain house. I got up here yesterday morning with the first pickup truck load about 8:30 a.m., and son John and I got everything unloaded quickly. He put everything up in the kitchen, and I finished setting up my office by 10:30. We decided to go back down to the rental house and take the vacuum (hoover to our UK folks

) with me, so I can clean up there, and snag whatever we could fit in the truck. By the time we got all of mine and Corey's clothes, it made sense to simply throw the entire bed and it's frame on the back of the pickup. OK, I watched John do that - I'm not completely crazy. Then I called Corey and asked him to pick up Egg (the cat) and head for our new home after work.

John and I brought the bed back, unloaded it, and set it up in Corey's and my temporary bedroom and got the bathroom cleaned up enough that Corey could shower in it - it's still somewhat under construction. Ran back down to Walmart and got tamales enough for three, and stayed the first night in our new (to us) home!

Just got Corey off to work this morning, happily navigating our way around a new space. And hoping with all my heart that this really IS the forever home. No more moves... three in one year is enough!

John and Corey will take the trailer down and bring the fridge, recliners, washer-dryer, the massive dresser and end tables for the bedroom, my mother's photo chest, and dining room hutch tomorrow afternoon.

So... today is an "off" day if we so choose. I've got my little GMC Terrain back, and Corey's driving his pickup again, which makes me happy... Now that I've lost the 40 pounds this year, enough of my backside disappeared that I'm scootched forward within a few inches of the steering wheel just to be able to reach the pedals in the pickup! My Terrain fits me better.

There are many, many small projects, as well, to accomplish today/this weekend/in the years to come... But none of that matters right this moment, because...

I'm home.

On to the second cup of coffee!

A hatinator is a fascinator which includes a small hat base, again held on by clips or a band. A hat is big enough to sit on the head without being fastened on, although fasteners can be used.

This is my solemn understanding of decorative headgear for UK and European women.

Rebecca- Soooooo happy for you! Being able to spend a couple of weeks with your youngest before he heads to Japan! What a wonderful surprise! Your baked goods look yummy and I bet your boy will settle in and soak up as much "home" as he can before he heads to the otherside of the earth!
HEATHER!!- Omigosh! I am so so happy for you! This has been a long time coming and I am enjoying each step you take getting you closer to Hove and your family! Happy Birthday to your husband! Sending love and hugs to you both!

! Did you know, there is a translation ap?! You could have used that while you were in England? lol Just joking with you, but kind of not. I laugh because my hubby needs the subtitles on when we watch BBC. He has ABSOLUTELY no ear for accents of any kind.

Oh, I just wanted to touch base with all of you by an experiment I tried on myself. We (our little group here) were talking about turmeric (again) and the benefits etc, a couple of weeks ago. I had been taking turmeric capsules since January or February, to help my slightly aching joints. I felt good for a while, but then just began to feel very achy, stiff, and, well, old; like I really felt all of my years and then some. AND I NEVER feel that way normally. So...about three weeks ago, I saw an article about turmeric NOT being good for some people; so I thought about it and the turmeric was the only thing I was doing differently this year, so I decided to stop taking it. That was three weeks ago. I feel much, much better. My hips, knees, elbows and back, especially, do not ache anymore. Just thought I would toss that out there. For those that are using a herb or spice to aid with something, if you aren't getting relief, just stop; maybe it's not going to work for you. lol Weird, but I feel so much better.

It has been an interesting week at daycare. The kids seem to be passing some sort of virus around. All it is is a fever that comes and goes and makes them tired and cranky. No other symptoms. But a week of tired and cranky has been trying on my patience. We went out for a short walk yesterday, temps in the 50s, so everyone was bundled up with heavier coats, hats and mittens. The baby fell asleep in the stroller (which she NEVER does), and the four year old boy pissed and moaned the entire walk. I even brought magnifying glasses so they could investigate things. Those distracted four of them, thank God! Spent a good 20 minutes checking out the dew on the grass, the moss on the fence rail, and an orb weaver working on it's web.
