Less Alcohol - November 2018 - One Day at a Time

Hello everyone! I'm pretty happy with my results in October 6 days with some drinks out of 31. Would like to make it 4 in November. And it is not alcohol but for me it is related - one month without smoking Yay!
Have a great day everyone
Woohoo! Quitting smoking is also hard. Well done!3 -
Today is day 30 AF for me.
I plan to have a celebration toast this friday for making it through Sober October ... but I want to be accountable and not slip back into the 6-8 beer a day habit I had previously. I'd like to limit myself to once a week through November.
Impressive! Last day today - woot woot!2 -
9 months alcohol-free!
Never thought that would happen when I joined these threads in February.
Feeling fantastic!13 -
I would like to join in. My last drink was October 25 so I have 7 days today. I’m looking forward to all the positive changes that will happen to my body and mind.7

Hello November I plan to REMEMBER everything.4 -
Happy New Month! I'm on Day 11 AF, and debating whether to have a planned drink or two this wknd. Wanted to comment for the newcomers on some of my feelings over the past 10 days.
For the most part, all good, happy, peaceful, non-negative. Glorious sleep and joyful awakenings in the morning simply by not feeling like crap. But I had some bumps. All to say that bumps are normal--and even expected at times. But they are there in anything substantial we're trying to achieve--weight loss, career advances, educational achievements, etc.
Getting ready to go to a friend's Happy Hour the first Friday, I was grumpy and emotional. I think part was because I couldn't drink. But the bigger part was dealing with emotions that I would normally numb away. First I've always struggled with transitions (even Friday--but esp Sunday). On top of that, what is my passion, I need a challenge,I'm getting old and I don't even have grandkids to show for it, blah blah blah... :-)
The second was similar--having 7 people over for a Sunday dinner. No wine while cooking with nor Prossecco with dinner. I actually found myself trying to push more Prossecco on guests (who all live within 2 blocks)--which isn't cool. Guess I was trying to drink vicariously while not wanting a vicarious hangover.
The third was a holiday-Halloween of course. No grumps...just wanting a nice glass of wine while sitting in front of the fire waiting for Trick-Or-Treaters. Still enjoyed the night, and we all had a laugh when I was handing out candy and my tutu-skirt fell down around my ankles. And I wasn't even drinking tequila!7 -
I'm in,,3 drinking days in October but I want none in November6

@saracantthink Yay, well done for making the effort! The first evening is "hard", but it looks like you've had kids - you know some things are much harder! You can definitely do this.
It gets easier!2 -
Congratulations @Orphia! What an amazing accomplishment . . . on top of your other amazing accomplishments!
@saracanthink You're going to do great. Baby steps.
@mainelylisa You are having some great insights. I experienced the same thing while cooking and while waiting for trick-or-treaters, but I gave in both times. Well done!
@MissMay and @ngk2000 Love the November slogans.
I had an unplanned drink last night, and it was hard to stop. I was both hormonal and emotional. Tomorrow is my husband's birthday, and we are going to an NHL hockey game with our son, so I was planning to have one. I will try not to now. I don't know. I'm feeling like progress is happening because I'm being more aware of how it is making me feel, both while drinking it and over the next twenty-four hours, and particularly just how hard it is to stop at one. My plan going into November was to allow one drink a week; I don't know if that is possible for me. I may need to be AF.5 -

Love this! You've made some great realisations there.
Yes, willpower is hard when the body is giving more energy to the reproductive system at those times of the month. The brain can miss out! Totally understandable "lapse".
I'm impressed with your progress. You seem to be moderating well. But I agree, it's hard. That's a big reason why I've gone 9 months. It's too hard to stop at one, and too hard to quit again a few times a week, let alone once.RunRachelleRun wrote: »
Yes, I agree!
NOvember to REMEMBER!!

Starting this past Monday, I made a promise to myself to limit alcohol to weekends. It was a little rough this week. Last night, my hubby ( who does not drink as a rule) wanted a drink-which was fine with me. I had told him I was limiting my drinking. He asked me to join him-think he forgot my promise-and I said no! I did not feel like I was missing out at all. Now, my real struggle will be to not drink to excess this weekend. I have loved waking up with a clear head this week6

Having gotten through the end of October, decided last night that I would have a drink with dinner out with girlfriends before seeing Bohemian Rhapsody (awesome, BTW). I had half glass of wine before going and then one drink. I love that I planned and stopped after 1.5. I did enjoy it. If only it were always that easy. Even one drink ending at 6:30 p.m. is still slightly felt this morning--a good reminder that the piper is just around the corner.
Great insights on this thread already. I think awareness, if drinking, as @RunRachelleRun mentioned, is a fabulous tool.
Congrats, @Orphia....what an amazing amazing accomplishment!4 -
REMEMBER NOVEMBER - Yeah I like it to.
Rough time of the year approaching with the holidays, parties, gatherings, food and of course alcohol. Time to be even more aware that events like the work Christmas party are not good reasons to over indulge.
It already began last night when I had to pick up a friend at a pub. I went in and ordered a soft drink, and heads turned. The owner of the pub had the audacity to speak up and tell the entire pub I was on the wagon. This sent me into a tail spin and I told him in front of the whole place I dont need you to make an excuse for me because I did not order alcohol. Goes to prove that some people fear another persons ability to control thier own behaviors.
Guess it is not the first and wont be the last time for that to happen.
Welcome new folks. Great to have you.
Everyone have a successful Friday and weekend.7 -

Have to say at this point, it was not worth it for sure. This is from 1.5 drinks at age 57. I started Googling why hangovers get worse with old age, and the articles were referring to old as 30, so I quit reading.
Have a great and as @MissMay says, successful weekend!

@mainelylisa 🤨The age thing can be daunting I was in the hospital the beginning of the month and one of my Drs put in the notes “ the pleasant elderly man was resting comfortably “ at 70 I am running 5 to 6 miles a day and swimming some mornings
Elderly thanks just what I wanted to hear6 -
@mainelylisa OHhhhhhh ouch a delayed reaction to your evening. That is no fun. This same "mind game" kept throwing me under the bus last Spring. I would "reward" myself out of the blue for going x number of days AF. Then I would have 2 or three and they would react to my system as if I had drank 5 or 6. My tolerance was lowered, but my mind still wanted to party like a rock star. It all ends up back to balance and control over that brain.
Hope your better now.
p.s.57 is the new 42😉
@Ke22yB you look awesome for 70. Keep it up.

I think when it comes to the old to the 'new age' I think they mean, the wiser of the society2
