WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR FEBRUARY 2019

I did some writing!!!!! :drinker: That's the first since I got sick. It feels great to have got started again.
DH wanted to come with me to the supermarket. We both went on the bus and I was really strict with him only to buy things we can't get locally. Managed only to fill my wheely trolley and two bags, which he carried. A good expedition. I also bought some oven gloves for £5, in a great black design, as my very expensive pale blue ones are beyond rescue. They were a present from my son and I did ask for them, but they were not a good colour choice! I'm going to try soaking them in bicarb etc., but I'm not holding out much hope. They've been through several hot washes.
Then when we were passing our local newsagent, DH pointed out that there was a card in the window from a 'mature and experienced' woman offering a cleaning service. I was astonished and asked him if he thought we could do with one (I did some cleaning this morning). He said, "Well, I just noticed it", so I copied down the number and will give her a call. We had a cleaner at our previous house, but he was never much in favour. I am seizing the chance! At least to give her a trial run.
My son is coming at 5 pm to use our elliptical. That caused me to clean all the exercise machines and to clean the shower room. Then, as I had a cloth in my hands I did the bedroom surfaces and the stairs surrounds. First time in about a month!

Machka - no notice at all really. I remember Dave from Big Bang Theory. I am going to miss that show.
Allie - A lot of my friends had the same reaction after a couple months on Keto but have successfully continued to lose, just not as fast.
Heather - I love hearing about your days. I need to do some of that cleaning as well. I hope you get your cleaner.
Today I am going to help a friend go through some things to get rid of before she puts the house on the market. I will do it as that’s how friends help each other, but I’m not really agreeing with her decisions right now. She has been very depressed or manic for a little over 3 years now since she found out her husband was cheating. When she left him, she bought a brand new house she couldn’t afford. Now she wants to sell the house, quit her job, buy a truck with camper and go travelling. I worry about her. She has no family that takes any interest in her life so I am it. She is determined that she will die young (54) because her Mother did. I feel for her, and I support her as much as I can but have told her on several occasions I think a professional would be better equipped to help her. Thankfully she has listened to this advice a couple of times at least.

Well I am bummed. Suppose to be sunny and warm today so I signed up for golf. Guess what, it is cloudy and misting. Guess I will go anyway as it is too late to cancel.
Lisa- glad you are having a better day. Recovery is a strange thing, one day you are sure you are better the next you are in agony. Keep on keeping on. You are doing great.
Rita- sorry about your injuries from the dog bite. Do you need to get a shot?
Michele, you need to moved to FL. You love it so in the winter but then it is hot and humid in summer. Lol everyplace has good and bad things about it. So just concentrate on the good.
KJ- sorry you are having so much stress. You are an amazing woman but you can only take so much. (((Hugs)))
Better get ready to go play in the “mist”. Ugh

Katla, hope your husbands doctor appointment gives you lots of information and allows you to plan the visit to kids and grandkids.
For me it is for sure CICO that make a difference in my triall with weight loss. I do the IF but that is more to get in touch with my body and make me aware of what I'm putting in my mouth. It has been a learning experience and slowly I'm eating healthier. My weight has remained the same for the last couple weeks. I'm walking lots and beginning to ride my bike for short distances and as spring gets closer will do some hikes into the mountains.
I'm watching the calendar because by the end of this month, the judge should rule on the case my sister and I are plaintiffs in. We are fighting for the right to our share of the family land. In 2011 when my Mom was dying , my brother and cousin told my sister and I we had no rights to the family property. They said the houses we built were on land we didn't have title to and therefore we could only use them with their permission. We filed suit in February of 2012 and the case went to trial for the whole month of November 2017. Then my brother and cousin and their wives filed motions trying to get the trial thrown out but they were unsuccessful. In July and August 2012 the final arguments were submitted to the District court judge and he has 6 months to rule. The six months began on August 30th and we should hear by tomorrow but technically he has until Monday March 4th because February is a short month.
Sorry to go on about this...just felt the urge to share. Will be so wonderful when this is behind me. I'm afraid that a favorite ruling for us will mean an appeal by my brother and his group because they have unlimited resources. Will head now for my walk with Ella. Walking helps me relax and be less anxious. Thanks everyone for being the group I could share with.....

Betsy ~ Here's hoping the judge rules in your favor. I totally understand the hurt feelings and unfairness that can occur when family members pass away.

Hey ladies,
I have been absent from this group, and now I feel a bit like a newbie. I am feeling awful these last few months, just not my old self. Husband and I are still attending the base gym most Mon-Thurs. We exercise about an hours worth. I go into the sauna clothed now! One day I went in with my exercise attire on and my flip flops. The heat of the sauna doesn't burn my skin so much, and it reminds me of sleeping under a quilt. I still take a rinse off shower, and bring another set of clothes. Poor husband has to sit and wait for me in the car, but he listens to Rush Limbaugh, so he loves that.
I think this place overwhelms me sometimes. The fact that its not ours, and in 4/5 years I have to up and move gives me no pride in this place. I want to fix it up, but my brain says, what's the point, its money into something that isn't ours. The owner came by a couple of months ago, and confessed he wanted to turn this place into his retirement home. So being just caretakers just makes me want to move now. But being caretakers of our sons stuff is good, and their will be a time when he's gone for awhile.
No news from youngest son but it was officially announced that his ship is in Malaysia. That's cool! He seems to be have some financial issues, so I get to send "I love you" cards and overdue bills! His debit card was having problems, and he got a new one. I'm pretty sure he didn't attach his new # to that bill. Live and learn son, then handle it. Probably why he's not calling. I have had one call on the 11th of Jan from that sailor. Then he was online, answering The Chief (of a father), but never clicked on me. He said to his dad he had to go Muster!
I am feeling a bit like I felt before I had surgery for my hiperparathyroidism. I am tired, no energy, achy, but I think most is related to depression. Can a gynecologist prescribe things for depression? It is related to my LS (lichen sclerosis), which I am seeing her for. I had to make an appointment with a general doctor, so I could get a referral to see a specialist. It was a doctor that specializes in LS. I am in an LS support group and saw they had a listing for a doctor in Anacortes. I had checked to see if they were Tricare and accepting new patients. Yep and yep. Then had the general doc appt on base. She seemed angry from the get go, and wanted to put me on meds for high blood pressure and just lecture me on losing weight. I said I am here for a referral. Anyway I did get a referral, but to see a general gynecologist within the Navy clinic. So I have to see her, to get a referral to the doc I wanted. That is on 3-6. Need to go through proper channels I guess. Well I finally looked into MyChart, a medical online chart. So she was opinionated because it had stayed I was noncompliant with getting medicine for high BP. No I wasn't! I did say something like that BP is high, but its high because I have vertigo! So during that appointment the doctor labeled me a "noncompliance opinionated fat lady". So that's why she was angry from the get go! I just need to see a pro. If you think I need to go on BP pills than so be it. Don't just half *kitten* talk about it, then say I am noncompliant! I think what has me depressed is with LS, fusing starts to happen with your lady bits. The architecture of your privates can receed, and become nonexistent. So for the sake of my poor lady bits I am taking a more active roll in my LS. Phew long rant!
Well our dishwasher is being leaky! So hand washing until a guy can come and look. Already can see some warping in the wood flooring! There is a bead of water all along the baseboard. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. A guy is coming today, so no exercising. I woke up with a splitting headache so kind of relieved.
Know I still am in the shadows, reading cheering you all on!
Hugs!

Yay! Physical therapy today was the only easy day I've had - measurement day and meeting goals... I had to walk 200 feet unsupported on uneven terrain (which I do every day when I walk across the yard). I had to hit at least a 100-degree bend on the knee, and was at 110 degrees. (It was about 75 within a few hours after surgery.) And I had to be able to fully straighten the knee so top and bottom bones were aligned at 0 degrees, and hit that too. In case you're wondering, the below picture shows the degrees of motion for a normal knee. My good knee gets about 150 degrees of bend. So... I will probably be released from PT at my last session later this week. Now I just have to continue on my own.
Taking Heather's advice, I'm also (after talking it over with my husband) going to pony up for a rower and a recumbent bike. The combination of the two will be less than what I would pay for a gym membership for a year, and as noted, am more likely to use them if they're in the house.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR (who is sure y'all are glad I will FINALLY stop talking about my knee!)6 -
Betsy - I too am hoping this court case is resolved in your favor and your bro and cousins are OK with it. Another reminder to us all to make sure our affairs/ deeds / all legal things are taken care of immediately so judges don't have to decide. Good for you getting back on exercise!
Beth - your produce box inspired me to sign up for a weekly CSA share which will start end of May. This little organic farm has had a booth at the local farmer's market for the last couple years. They grow a lot of things we don't grow anymore so we'll give it a whirl. Looks like veggies and fruit and herbs. They also grow great Oyster mushrooms so they will keep me supplied.
I have the gardening bug, lol. Started onions and kale this morning - seeds on dirt on the heat mat in the kitchen. May start some flowers as well since I have room in the germination flat. Will have to do some housecleaning in the garage where I have additional heatmats where they'll stay once they've germinated under grow lights. I haven't been successful before but got some good advice from one of my Master Gardener buddies.
Allergies really flared up on Sunday when I opened the bag of potting soil.... yesterday morning I woke with sneezing, sore throat, achy ears. Took lots of Vit C and Elderberry syrup to head off cold... turns out I think it was just major allergy reaction, drat. That's why I've been doing these shots! Anyhow much better this morning.
Took DH to the doc yesterday - see spoiler if interested in painful medical problem- due to his general health and years of prednisone, he gets abscesses on his tushie that have to be surgically drained. This is the second one in 5 months. His doc wasn't in so my doc took care of him - cute gal in her early 40's who wears her hiking pants and a sweater - this is not a white coat doc office. He was embarrassed so I stayed in the room with him - it's kind of sore this morning but doing better and he's on antibiotics. He said the worst part about it was the numbing shot and the whole time he was fighting back a fa rt, lol.
OK ladies, sun is out and it's warming up. Have a great day!

alright well enough about me.. going to watch Joyce.. and then
That is a great loss! I weigh myself every day and as long as the graph is on a downward teen I'm happy! Suggestion when you weigh yourself, take a piece of yarn and measure your waist. Cut it and tape it where you can see it. great visual motivator.
My little raptor was protecting her Daddy's bed from Brownie who was trying to hel me. All is well with me. No puncture wounds. Just a scratch on my hip.

Allie - Since I have been doing keto and communicating with other people in the low carb and Keto communities there is a phenomenon known as the “woossh”. You go a couple weeks without losing anything then, all of a sudden you will drop 3 to 5 pounds. I agree with others that you are doing fantastic

Lisa - you will not regret it, best thing we ever did. We also have an elliptical, but I think the rower is the best all round exercise. The only thing I would say is, buy the best you can afford. And check out the maintenance arrangements. The first elliptical we had was always needing adjustments for knocking noises, but because we bought it from a reputable store they repaired it several times for free under guarantee. Eventually they gave us a huge chunk of money off a much better model. We have had absolutely no trouble with the new one in 5 years. Our recumbent bike has also been trouble free. LIFE FITNESS.
Betsy - Wishing uou good luck for your legal wrangles. How wearing for you!
Dancing was great tonight. Even DH enjoyed the 8 beat Lindy Hop.

Machka, that cycling event sounds a little like the “Iron B__t” for motorcycle riders here in the USA. Then there’s the “Four Corners”! Tip of Washington state to tip of Maine to tip of Florida to SW coast of California to tip of Washington. I forget how many thousands of miles but suspect it’s well over 10k - or 17k kilometers. I’d love to just leisurely ride that route sometime.

Hi ladies just been watching Sewing Bee on BBC2 love it as I used to make all our clothes.
DH is definitely hard of hearing he mentioned last week that he should get it checked. Don't want to nag him but wish he would. He is very good at disguising his problem but I would get the blame for 'mumbling' We have volume high on TV and often have subtitles switched on. Know it needs to be his decision. Presume he feels it shows age he is 78 soon, it's not the cost of aids cos we can afford it. It drives me mad but don't want to push. Need to be tactful LOL
