I have discs T10 through S1 fused, and it makes it very hard to lean or bend forward from the waist for long. Perhaps a bike wouldn’t be best for me. I always had to have “set backs” put on the handlebars of the motorcycle. The picture of the beach is lovely. It’s probably high summer now, isn’t it? Or is it shading into autumn already?

Today is the last day of summer. March 1 is the beginning of autumn. However that said, tomorrow is supposed to be 35C (95F) and Saturday is supposed to be 37C (98.6F) ... a beautiful start to autumn!!
I have been a cyclist since I was about 4 years old ... so approx. 48 years now.
I grew up in a cycling family and our house was always full of bicycles, cycling magazines, and cycling stuff.
My interest in cycling died off a bit between the ages of about 17 and 23, but then on April 29, 1990, I started cycling again and haven't stopped since.
In 2003, I met my husband on a very long distance ride in France called the Paris-Brest-Paris. We got to know each other on several other long distance rides in Australia, North America and Europe.
We were married in 2008 ... we cycled a century (100 miles) and were then married on dock on a lake in the mountains.
When I moved to Australia in 2009, my husband and I carried on the tradition of cycling and a house full of bicycles.

I face March with mixed feelings.
I like March because it is my birth month.
But now, it's also the anniversary of the accident.

Morning, afternoon, and evening all...
Yes, I too use ellipses. They create the spaces where I would pause in conversation, and I write very much the same way I talk. I don't use them in business docs at all, so I know it's a personal foible. Beth, you can tell your son for me that criticizing his mama's grammar is a much bigger faux pas than any ellipsis ever has been. He needs to get over himself.
The weight continues to drop, which is nice to see here at the end of the month. For the ladies who are new, Barbie will be starting another thread this evening for March, and will post a link to it at the end of her day, so don't forget to follow us over!
I'm leaving February one pound lighter than I was at the end of January, and once again, I'll take that. My goal was to get through the knee surgery, and be lighter at the end of the month than the beginning. So I did.

Oh ... I use ellipsis a lot and I guess incorrectly. My son was quite perturbed with me over the weekend for using them in a text??? So if I offend with them ... sorry ...Morning, afternoon, and evening all...

I use ellipses when I'm typing conversationally but not in formal documents. There, I'll use "em" dashes.
So, I would rewrite the following sentence:
We were married in 2008 ... we cycled a century (100 miles) and were then married on dock on a lake in the mountains.
As:
We were married in 2008 -- we cycled a century (100 miles) and were then married on dock on a lake in the mountains.
Actually, because most of my formal writing is in technical documents, I'd probably form that sentence as:
We were married in 2008.
- we cycled a century (100 miles)
- we were married on dock on a lake in the mountains.
But here, we're casual ... so I'll use as many ellipses as I feel like ............ !!

Machka, I like you and all... but that translates to $420 in US terms, and that's pretty much a mortgage payment, so no. They are truly beautiful, though. I think they'd be even more amazing with a fire opal or a ruby in the center, but I love color. My birthstone's a boring old diamond.
Making some decisions on my future that I've been putting off this morning... for those who follow my blog on Facebook, I've taken down my Coffee and Egg page on Facebook, and will eventually take down the blog itself, when I have time to go through and pick out any posts that I feel are worth saving. I'm still back and forthing on my home reno blog and my personal website that's basically been a parking site for my books, but when the bill rolls around to keep those alive in March/April timeframe, they may disappear with little fanfare, as well, or at a minimum be carved back sharply.
This being the Internet, they'll be archived somewhere. Not sure what's next yet--I'll let the writing take me where it goes.

I can see a birthstone discussion coming up Mine is emerald and the great thing about losing weight is being able to wear the ring my Mum bought for my 21st birthday. For years it was too tight

Good morning all! Happy Thursday! I love a good ellipsis...they are exciting! What will come next...what are you not telling me...will we ever know...? It is all a mystery! Regarding veggies: I have a hand spiralizer. I use it mainly for zucchini and I use it about once a week. I was able to nab my mother in law's food processor last week while I was cleaning out her kitchen. Not sure if it has a spiralizing blade; if it does I would probably only use it if I am making veg noodles for more than me. IF it is just for me, the hand spiralizer works well.
Barbara-Whoa! The buckled road is scary; but AWESOME! I mean awesome in the awe-inspiring sense of the force of nature! Men try to control it and it can just undo what we have done in seconds!
Machka- I love your bike history! I hope you have that adorable picture hanging somewhere in your home! Regarding the beach/water where you like to run/walk/ride. The beaches around here are like that. IF you are unfamiliar with where the rip currents are, you are putting yourself in danger. Many lives lost to those. Also, in the spring, after snow melt and heavy rains, e-coli is always a factor.
Allie- Sorry about the direct deposit issues. It is a pain when stuff like that happens and you are basically living check to check. It is really easy to take the photos of your check and submit them online. With our bank, we DO have to get the check into them within a couple of days, but the photo allows them to put the money into our account immediately. Our online banking ap walks us through the steps to submit the photo of the check; yours probably does the same.
Pip- Love your pup pics! They all look so content!
Sharon- So happy you were able to go out with your DGD! The meal sounds wonderful and it is nice that you could have it for breakfast, too! Going out to eat is such a treat! To not have to cook and to be able to order something that you don't make at home?! Bliss!
Dana- Good to see you back! Your hair looks wonderful! Good to hear that Jessica and the grandkids are still hanging in there. I don't think people realize how long recovery takes after a big weather event that has destroyed everything; unless they have experiences it first hand. Are the kids back to a somewhat normal routine? School, etc? Did they end up having to change schools? So hard! Sending love and hugs to all of you
Suebdew- Thank you for the thoughts and hugs! You are always in my mind, as you are there in Texas, somewhat near my daughter/grandson and we were able to meet in person! Sending you lots of love, as well!
Well, the kids and I have been celebrating all things Dr. Seuss this week (his birthday is Saturday, March 2). I have a huge collection of Dr. Seuss books, leftover from when my own kids were small. It is fun to introduce his books to young children. His writing is silly and the kids still love the rhymes. Shel Silverstein is another one that parents tend to forget about with the ever changing world of children's literature.
My oldest turns 32 today! I can remember when I first met him (he is my stepson); he was a little over one year old and was sitting in his high chair when I came to visit Tim. Darren, dropped a piece of food on the floor and I leaned over to pick it up for him and he swiped the whole tray of food onto my head. Little booger! Our relationship has improved, since then. lol
I had a talk with Tim and our two boys and pretty much told them that I don't want to hear how busy they are, or they don't want to help with the furniture moving on their day off. Me: "I am working 80+ hours per week and have two full days off each month; if I can find the time to help with the house sale/organization, and I can give up my only days off to do it; I expect no less from them!" I also told Tim he can go there and help with small things, now that he is mostly over the crud. He started to complain about his RA pain and I told him he "will be in pain here or there; being in pain there will help me and everyone else." lol SO...the boys have set up a time this week to make a trip to collect as much as they can and they have rented a small truck to haul. I feel so much better today for pushing them to this. They might not like me; but I like me better and don't feel so used.
Well, I need more coffee. I have one little guy here already and another about to arrive. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

A question for the ladies ...
This blog: https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/31-ways-to-reduce-stress-in-your-life/ provides 31 ways to reduce stress in your life.
My life is fairly high stress, so I thought I would take a moment to glance through the list.
Some are all right like 1. Go outside. Fresh air and nature have been shown to reduce stress and anxiety. Yes, I find that walking down to the beach after work is something that helps.
But most of the rest add things to a person's schedule. Yes, I'm a little bit cynical here.
4. Get a massage. ... Who has the time??
6. Take that well-earned vacation. Right. I'll get right on that.
12. Rekindle an old hobby like drawing, knitting or woodworking. Like I need more things to do!
16. Take a walk during your lunch break. To my next appointment.
19. Unclutter your desk and your home. I'm still looking for someone to hire to do that.
But then I wondered ... what 31 things (and some can be from that list) would actually reduce stress without adding more Things To Do to the list?
Like, for example, I use lavender oil drops on my pillow case. Does lavender actually help relaxation and sleep? Not sure. But it smells nice and it's not stressing me out to do that.
Other ideas?
Machka in Oz ... who might move this to the March thread starting soon.2 -
There are several items on my happiness commandments list that might qualify as stress reducers:
*Don't take things personally
*Lighten up
*Do it now
*Stay in the moment
*Act the way you want to feel
*Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good
*Don't expect praise or recognition
*It is what it is

Machka: Swimming in sewage is not a good thing. It is a shame they haven’t found a better way to deal with it. We took our boat up to the San Juan and Gulf Islands many years ago and there were a couple of little towns in BC that used to pump their raw sewage out into the water. Sometimes the tides pushed it back in. YUCK! :ohwell: Re stress relief: Yoga is a help for me, and so is choosing a fun activity when there is time. Riding bikes as you’ve done is also a great choice. We have recumbents on trainers out in the garage, but I have to admit they haven’t been used in too long. I would walk on the beach if I was in your location. Good luck.
Dana: Sending good wishes to your daughter. :flowerforyou:
(((Barbara))) Good wishes for you and all your neighbors. I hope essential foods are available and so is safe water. It seems like the Coast Guard could fly in foods and supplies by helicopter if needed.
KJ: I still have Doctor Seuss books on my shelves from the days my kids were little. I’ll bet they have them on their shelves, too. If they don’t, I know what their kids will be getting as gifts from Grandma. I love the ideas that classic2o has posted.
Yoga today!!!!! I need it.
