I am 59. Homebound with illnesses ( See profile)
I did not start this time. I had severe flu in mid March could eat very little, could not drink much, few weeks and lost weight several kg. Recovery was very slow. Lost my appetite and food cravings. So have to watch my nutrition.
Only able to do bits of non - tiring exercise like 5 to 9 minutes.
I do 1300 calories a day, log in daily. Like to cook, used to collect cookbooks but stopped in mid 30s. Also liked to do some baking but now is only at holiday season or few times something really small like a 2 person mini pie.
Have many hobbies to keep busy but have not done much yet, no energy. Catching up on housekeeping slowly
still somehow manage do my own housekeeping in small bits. Can do very little in garden and patio.
Getting very near to 10% weight loss. And then on to next 10% etc.
Nerys i'm so sorry about your illness. It's wonderful that you manage to take care of yourself in different ways in 5 or 9 minute bouts.
Kelly Old friends can be such a treasure. I very occasionally see old friends or even acquaintances from high school or college and it rather makes us feel young in some ways.
I went for a little walk (a bit begrudgingly), had a decent lunch a little smoked salmon, lots of lettuce and light condiments, and a small serving of dairy free yummy ice cream I discovered and a small chocolate square.
I tried pre-tracking my dinner. I'll see how it goes.
I had 2 hard-boiled eggs for mid-morning snack again (like yesterday). That's weird for me, to have such a meal-like snack in mid-morning. I'm much more prone to have something like fruit or a cracker or something. interesting to get into something different. I know studies recommend protein over carbs for feeling satiated.
I have not checked much off on my list today yet except tracking and walking. ok here goes.4 -

Off in a bit to pick up Bea from nursery. DH is picking up Max and Edie. We should all be back at their house by 4pm. DDIL has book meetings in London. Her new book is out next month, The Imposter Cure. (not her title ) We are going to the launch on June 13th. It's in one of the pubs from the firm my son is director of. (Yes, I know it's a weird job for a recovering alcoholic)
I have instructions over the phone from my son about their dinner at 5 pm. Spiral pasta, with just grated cheese for Max, just pesto for Bea, and Marmite for Edie with a sprinkle of cheese. Hey ho!
My nether parts are still niggling at me, but not sure if it's thrush from the antibiotics. I have ordered Canesten from Amazon as they won't sell it OTC to over 65s. Grrrrrrrrrr! I'm taking Ibuprofen. I might have to leave a urine sample at the doctor's tomorrow. Whatever it is, it's annoying, but not disabling. I'm walking the half hour plus to pick up Bea.

teeth cleaning appointment this morning....I want to care for my teeth so they last my whole life but I hate the cleaning process.
averaged over 15,000 steps a day in April which is higher than March. Hubby is happy that he averaged over 5,000 steps which is higher than his March average.
Thank you for all your kind words. It is important to me to keep this thread going because I need all of you to support me on my healthy journey.

Lisa and Shannon,
I, too, have been in the fog and gaining lately. It’s kind of an angry fog and I’m not sure what to change: gained 4.5 lbs but going to water aerobics 4x a week (burns 500 calories each time) the whole month of April. That’s nuts! I don’t add in the calories that they give you back from exercising, kept it in the sedentary category so the calories didn’t increase, drinking my water (more), so what’s the deal? Nothing has changed with doing homework. I feel like the amount of calories are too high. I gave up tracking because it was upsetting me so much. It’s really maddening that the dietician is stumped. This week I’ve been really sick, and had a mast cell reaction a week ago, not well enough to do any exercise this week so far. The many busy family events for the rest of the year start May 25th with a wedding and did not expect to gain. 😡😡😡
Been peeking in and keeping up throughout the past month, just nothing to say. Hello to all of the new names I see.
Hoping for a better month!

A Goal: get through my list! It would be great if I could get through it in May, but there are 56 main items on the list, each with sub-items. Also, no sooner than I finish one thing, more crop up. So we'll see how we go.
All right, I'd better go try to get at least one item done.

I think I might have completed my husband's seizure management plan. I hope!! It will be a work in progress to some extent, but I hope I've got a version that can be distributed now.

Barbie: Happy May Day! Thanks for the new thread.
Barbara: I haven’t tried diatomaceous earth on my rugs because of its gritty texture. My spray should be here soon. I hope!!
Kathy in KY: I haven’t been doing well with my weight lately, either. I know the reason--I’m eating too much junk that turns into water retention and fat. :grumble:
Time to walk the walk. I’ve been having an alcohol drink in the evening and it is high in calories and low in anything healthy. Time to walk away from it.

After a couple of years on the site and 36 pounds lighter, I find myself 'rebelling' and indulging in not logging my calories or freely going over my allotted calorie count for weight lose. Needing some support and perhaps some commiserating of same struggles... I am about 20 pounds away from goal but not certain yet what weight will feel right for me.9

So goals for May - Turning 52 on June 28 so good timing! I am currently 157 - April goal was to get under 160 (from 163) and stay there - yeah! So now comes the harder part the next 10. I'd like to crush may with a 6 pound weight loss.
Plan
1 - eat within my calorie allotment (avoid empty sugar calories and booze)
2 - Peleton bike 4x per week
3 - 10,000 steps per day
4 - Home chores to burn calories - garage cleaning, readying yard for summer
Love the social support all.

It's true that calories in/calories out is the formula for weight loss, but even with very careful tracking, the numbers can be off. It has been my experience that nutrition dense foods are a better choice than more "entertaining" calories and that all movement contributes to burning calories. Every time I carry another piece of folded laundry and put it away, I burn a few extra calories and every hour I sit in a chair, slows my calorie burn. Above all, I refuse to be discouraged by seeming setbacks and plateaus.

Thanks for all your support.
I have heard nothing from the letters I sent. It does not surprise me considering a police officer was just convicted for shooting a woman who was reporting a crime in Minneapolis.
I have learned the police here in the Twin Cities are trained to be reactionary. What I witnessed with our son I have seen this in action first hand. Unions are fighting any other training that they are currently using. SAD!
When I can I will continue to push for de escalation training for the police. Teaching over went this overhaul about thirty years ago.
DS still in hospital. For now my focus need to be on him and getting him home.
My letters were more for me and dealing with the trauma of what happened. As I have worked towards healing I am hearing many other stories from others of the pain they have gone through in their lives. Many of you here have shared too.
For others sharing stories of heart break is too personal. I respect you for not sharing too. Everyone suffers loss sometime in their life. How someone deals with their loss deserves to be respected. There is no time table and correct way to handle loss.
I wanted to get my story out there because mental illness is still not recognized for how serious an ill it can be. It needs immediate treatment like a stroke, heart attack or any other life threatening illnesses.
This is the true reason I told my story...
Goals:
Working towards healing my own trauma
-taking good care of myself through diet, exercise, prayer, singing, painting
-taking in something beautiful everyday
-laughing everyday
-engaging all of my senses sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste in positive ways5 -
Welcome to May. Thank you Barbi for the new thread. Wishing everyone well this month.
My goals for May are to log food daily and get in the habit of logging before a single bite. 😉 It works so well but I get lazy. This will be my last month in Washington until fall. I’ll head back to Alaska at the end of May. I won’t have internet and I’ll miss connecting with this community daily.
And I’ll miss my husband but he doesn’t like my summer life and prefers to remain in Washington. He used to visit for a couple weeks each year but about 10 years ago he decided living without electricity and indoor plumbing was too difficult. So he stays home and takes care of the house and yard and I go back home with Ella and come back around freeze up. . It works for us, but his friends tease him that we haven’t really been married for 26 years because I’m gone for a third of each year. :-)
Have a good day everyone. It’s sunny and warm today already. Spring is such a pleasure.

Thanks Barbie, a busy start to the May thread,
I need to catch up with the last few pages from the April thread and also the first two pages for May, but wanted to check in and mark my spot. April was a good month, it is the first time in years that I have actually lost weight, only 2lbs but I am determined to keep it off.
Goals:- Continue to log and keep a check on the snacking calories
- Continue to get my house into some sort of order
Happy May Day everyone!

morning check-in
✔️ 1. weighed self 60.1k
✔️2. tracked all
✔️ 3. 30 min exercise
✔️4. five minutes meditation
✔️5.Spend at least 2h on long term writing project
not yet 6.produce at least 2 pages per day
not yet 7. Take care of at least one short term (1 pagish) writing or administrative task/bill
✔️ 8. At least 15 min/day filing/cleaning. 1+ hour. yes
✔️ 9.average 1100 calories net. so far
• Overall Feeling: okay
• Tracking : so far so good
• Exercise: begrudgingly yes, about 4000 steps going for a walk =about 40 min.
• 1100 calories net : 75 in green. I had saved for a glass of wine, but I think I really need to work still this evening. so I had 10cl of kombucha instead of 10 cl of wine -thus the 75 c.
• Long term writing: spent 3 hours w correcting but produced only 1/2 a new page
heard from better (I think) corrector, who will be available in 2 weeks and less expensive. I have to see how that works out. she's a youngish retiree my field so it's easier for her to get into the nuances. she was recommended by my director, so that means they are probably on the same wavelength. I need to check that out tomorrow.
• Short term writing/admin : no, I need to listen to tapescript and take notes for 10 am appointment tomorrow. not looking forward to that.
• Bright Spots today : better, less expensive corrector seems to be available, mild weather, enjoyed meals more today
Today im grateful for
1. good corrector, hopefully
2.checking off many of above
3. mild weather
4. bathroom walls cleaner
5. sea salt
6. black pepper
7. balsamic vinegar
8. good lettuce2
