When using a dating app I used to Internet stalk people to see how much info I could find out about them particularly if I was going to go on a date with them. I told myself it was for safety but I just enjoyed the challenge of seeing how much I could find out. One guy I worked out his address and everything lol so I told him he needed to tighten up his privacy settings. Another I worked out he was 30 years older than he had stated and might have crossed paths with my dad.5

One of the creepiest situations I’ve been in was when I was 21 years old. As I was driving on a highway one summer day, I stopped at a service stop to go to the bathroom. This random guy in the male line tried to talk me up. I was polite but tried not to encourage it. I went to the bathroom quickly and left. As I was driving I felt as if I was being followed. At some point, that same guy drove next to me and beeped at me indicating he wanted me to exit. I was a little freaked out but I continued on my way ignoring him. Until I got off an hour and half later heading towards home. Hoping he would of continued on his way and he wasn’t in fact following me. It was simply in my head. When I noticed he was following me I decided to call the police before stopping at a convenient store instead of heading home. I didn’t want some random stranger to follow me home. He stopped as well. He ended up telling me that he followed me just to get my number. He wanted to know if I interested in being paid to help him relieve some stress. I told him that I wasn’t available and that I didn’t appreciate him following me. At that point the cops arrived.

I’ve done this too. I think we all should.
You never know who you’re going to
meet. And hey if you want a career change, you already know you’re a good PI.4 -

Have y'all ever internet-stalked yourselves just to see what you would find? I do that periodically but mostly I just try to only put stuff out there that I don't mind if it's out there1 -
My husband's ex-wife stalks me. She lives an hour away, but one morning I was running at a high school track, and I saw her car, parked in the shadows but still pretty visible. I could even see her in the driver's seat, plain as day, every time I passed that section of the parking lot as I ran my laps. I finally just waved at her, and she slammed the gas and tore out of that parking lot. I guess she thought I couldn't see her. It reminded me of when my cat "hides" by sticking his face under a curtain, but his big fluffy butt is sticking out and it's obvious where he is. My husband's ex-wife has similar hiding skills, just not as cute.8

I have two. I dated this guy when I was like 16 and we dated for awhile I forget how long but he actually had a girlfriend of 4 years I didn’t know about so I was the girl he was cheating on her with, so when I found out I ended things (he had a whole other Facebook he had me blocked from so I didn’t know he was dating her) but after I ended it the guy stalked me for like 2 years after. I mean come to my house and just sit there in his car. The last time he did (I think that was the last time) he put a mixed cd on my porch with a 10 page love letter and flowers (HE WAS STILL DATING THAT GIRL) and when I went outside to take my dog out it was pitch black and I seen all the stuff sitting there and no lie he started walking up my driveway I ran back inside and my dad came outside and threatened to beat his *kitten* and then called the police. The girl even stalked me for a couple years after too I blocked her and him and she would make new profiles just to try to talk to me. It was all super weird.
But the second story is actually still happening. So I have this girl that’s literally obsessed with me and my husband. Her and my husband hung out like once months before we started dating and she got a boyfriend and got pregnant then tried to claim it was my husbands baby! Then after it was proven not to be, she still posts on all social media how my husband is a dead beat dad to her son, WHICH HE ISNT EVEN THE FATHER OF. Then she went to my husbands baby mama (my stepson is 8 now) and swabbed my stepsons mouth for a DNA test and told my husband it came back positive for his. I’m like you do realize that would mean my stepson is your baby’s father right?? 😂 but then she would send us Christmas cards of her son in the mail (don’t even know how she got our address) and she posts on social media how she would love for me to be her sons stepmom, but then moved literally to the same town we live in (it’s a very very small town) and I’ve seen her driving past my house multiple times very slowly just staring.6 -
I don’t have a stalker or stalkee story but my kids had a 60s themed spring concert and when they sang Happy Together i thought that the overly, shall we say, optimistic lyrics combined with the minor key suggesting unrequited love would be a perfect opener for a movie about a serial killer who stalks and kills women who reject him.
That was a long and awkwardly worded sentence. Enjoy!9 -

I use my birth name for work, so yes there are things about me under that name. But in my life outside of my job and online I actually use my middle name and there is nothing about me under that name. I also have two last names so it’s relatively easy for me to stay incognito on the Internet.
That’s a good way to go about it, and I do the same. I try not to say or post anything I’d regret later, or wouldn’t want someone I know to see.3 -

Similar for me--I have one of the most common names in the USA and the easiest stuff to find about me is basically my Twitter account and Soundcloud which...yeah, go right ahead, nothin to hide there.0 -

When I was in high school I was dating a young lady who was nice... but a bit distant. While we were dating there was another girl who apparently really liked me and would stalk me at school - come and find me to sit near me during lunch, find me in the halls just to say hi, wait outside the front door when I was leaving.... that kind of thing. Since the girl I was dating was distant and didn't really seem interested, I finally gave up on that and agreed to 'date' the girl who had been stalking me.
Oddly enough, once we started dating she lost interest and the girl I had been dating actually started showing interest of a sort. Go figure.2 -
Wow! Some crazy stories in here. I’ve been online stalked before. Blocked people on social media and they make new accounts and keep messaging. That’s way easier to deal with than a real life stalker.
I had a friend in elementary and high school who was obsessed with me. She copied everything I did and the clothes I wore and how I wore my hair. She hated every boy I liked or dated. She called me several times a day and came over all the time. I would be out with another friend and I’d come home and she’d be in my house waiting for me with my Mom or something. When I got pregnant in high school this took it to a new level. She wanted to come to every doctor’s appointment, to every birthing class, wanted to be in the delivery room when he was born. And not in a supportive way. It was in a “I need to be as involved in this as your boyfriend” kind of way. She bought a baby seat for her car so she could drive us around. She had pictures of my baby on her keychain, in her locker and in her bedroom. It got creepy and I had to stop being friends with her.5 -
I went on a couple dates with a guy.
I didn't feel it was going anywhere but he felt different. I don't know that I'd say stalk... but one morning, I woke up with a 165 unread text messages.5 -
Honestly this is one of the scariest threads. Like Cowsfan said, people be crazy. All ages, both sexes, different countries, stuff that goes back to the 70s. Everyone's like oh hi, how are you, that's nice, lovely weather we're having - but what lurks underneath the veneer is anyone's guess. Eew.6
