Well the holiday weekend just flew by. Saturday I mowed our lawn. It is a double lot so took me over 3 hours. But proud I got it done. Then Sunday after church we went motorcycle riding with our grandson and a couple friends. Had a lot of fun, but got a little red. Yesterday did not start out well as I was sound a sleep and got a text on my phone from my mom. Now mom has been gone 2 and half years. I asked who is this and they just kept asking how I am doing and why I don't know who this is. I blocked the number so didn't get anymore. I really unsettled me for the whole day. Someone hacked her account.
Janetr--Sorry you missed your granddaughter's graduation, but I am sure they understand about the weather. We have had some terrible thunder storms the last couple evenings. So much rain, worried about flooding again. So far we are ok in town, but getting close. I also wish that saying was true. I might get somewhere then as I seem to gain and lose the same 5 pounds .
RVRita--What an adventure.
Lisa--Front of house is looking really great. It's a lot of work as we did ours last year.
Karen--Sorry to hear about your co-worker. Any more nothing is safe and being at a job a long time doesn't seem to matter much anymore. It is sad.
Well am caught up and out of time. Need to go the phone store when I get off work as this new phone and I are not figuring things out so going to see if they can help or trade back to IPhone.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE Where the rain needs to stop or I could float to Kansas soon5 -
Welcome Red. I am 69 and there are quite a few oldies here.
Dancing was fun this evening. Quite a lot of new people. I think DH is finally getting the hang of it, but he doesn't recognise how far he's come.
I was just plucking up the courage to ask one of the other couples if they wanted to meet up for a drink outside the class sometime when they announced they were going to America for 4 weeks. Oh well. They are two women and one of them (Polish origin) takes the 'lead' role so I get to dance with her and DH dances with her partner. They seem very nice and friendly. I would like to make some friends in Hove.
There is also a Norwegian guy I like, but it's more difficult asking a lone man.

Challenging day at work will carry on, but big, sad changes are coming soon. Will take a deep breath and look for ways to flip the script (thanks, KJ)

Corey's been told to stay home for now, which, while I love him, is annoying. I work at home because I LIKE working alone, and he will try not to bug me, but he's a guy. It's in the nature of the beast.

My husband has always been a talker, but one of the side effects of the brain injury is that he has become, in the words of his assessors "verbose and tangential".
I, on the other hand, can go whole days without uttering a word.
So ... it makes doing my homework and studying etc. rather interesting.
But I've discovered that if I put the TV on for him, that can distract him. I'll hear him laughing or talking to the characters on TV, but I can kind of tune that out.

I ordered a cropped cardigan yesterday as I had 30% off one of my favourite brands. It's in a hot rose pink colour. I have a long black jersey dress I bought last year, sleeveless, v neck, with slits up the side, which I haven't worn yet, maybe because I don't like my arms. This little 'cardi' will be great with it. I did check first whether I had any money in my account!
I have another black shelf bra top that would suit it too, so I'm hoping it's a good investment. I don't often buy clothes. I have fewer clothes in my wardrobe than anyone I know! What I do buy lasts for ages. DH has loads more clothes than me.
Tonight we think we'll go to the Paris House for live music. It's free. The group who are playing are called the Tractor Factor. I looked them up and they are World Jazz Fusion.

Today's surprise riddle with Biblical referenceHow are home repair contractors like the kingdom of God? "But concerning that day and hour [when it cometh] no one knows, not even the angels of heaven..." Matt 24:36Yep, there I was in bathrobe with unbrushed teeth and uncombed hair when Surprise! The crew we were expecting between 9-9:30 last Thursday arrived!
Another reason I've got to get out of the laze-around-in-bathrobe habit!
Moving plants to the greenhouse postponed 'til this weekend. Thinned the mustards and radishes, transplanted one tomato into a larger pot, hilled up some compost around the potatoes, corrected and distributed firehouse minutes and tried to coordinate some info exchange between chief and accountant. Different communication styles makes effective exchanges difficult. Only time will tell if successful.
OK dear gardeners, please give me sowing tips. I really hate thinning, feels so cruel (even though it made a nice bowl of micro greens for tonight' salad). Any favorite sowing tricks/gadgets to help space seeds/minimize thinning?
Lanette you put your finger right on it. Box 7 in 1099R showed "7" not "G". FA is working on proof of rollover/deposit. Meanwhile I'll approach 1099 issuer to learn how quickly we can get corrected.
Machka "feels like -.3 C..." and you haven't yet put on your winter coat? Brrr.
Lisa "and he will try not to bug me, but he's a guy." Made me laugh out loud. I had to kick Joe out of the house while trying to figure out our recent tax problem. He kept coming into the office and trying to cheer me up with little jokes etc. Made me crazy!!!
Welcome Red from MN!
KJ, Beth, Vickie et al, so admire all you lawn mowin' gals!
Oh Vickie what a cruel thing!
NYKaren ((hugs)) were the big sad changes expected?
Heather that hot rose pink shrug sounds just like you. Look forward to pics.
Joe surprised me with a camping trip, but now we're not sure if the construction crew will be back tomorrow or not for another 4-5 days. Fortunately we agree that having the crew finish is more important than the $$ deposited to reserve the camping space. If we do go, I'll be interested to see if my phone maintains connection with mfp for logged in streak days. Doubtful there will be wifi, maybe not even cell service.
Lighter, lovelies!

One happy thing that we are very excited about ..........
At our last house in the countryside we had a lot of goldfinches. They like a specific kind of seed, that you require a specific feeder for. We didn't bring the feeder with us as it was a bit rusty, but we did bring the seeds. Since we have been here we were not noticing any goldfinches in the garden, so we didn't bother to buy a new one; then, suddenly, one appeared! DH got enormously excited and immediately ordered a new feeder from Amazon. It arrived and he proudly hung it up........no goldfinches. For days. For me it is a puzzle how the birds actually know there are seeds inside this metal tube! Eventually he put a handful of seeds next to the container on a plate.
Love and behold, two goldfinches were busily working away on the feeder the next morning. Hooray!
Such small things give us enormous pleasure.

Vicki, it would have shaken me, too. What a horrible thing...
Barbara, If you hadn't been in your bathrobe, they would have probably never showed.
NYKAREN, I'm sorry about the work situation. Thinking of you.
Corey moped around the house most of yesterday, did a few little jobs he'd been putting off, and sat in front of the TV most of the day (which I seldom turn on at all during the day). However, they've re-opened all the bridges into town as of last night, after checking footings and whatnot, so he just left for work! Yay!
That was the good news - the bad news is they're expecting severe weather today. Just about the time I was supposed to be in town for an all-staff meeting. Considering how many roads are flooded, still, I think I'll just call in to the meeting. Not fond of driving in the rain anyway... But could well change my mind between now and then. We'll see how it goes.
Speaking of which, having an especially interesting time writing a grant where I have to explain how our goals match the United Nations' sustainable development goals. I could make a case for all 17, but also only have 2000 characters (approximately 300 words) in a grant web portal to do that. I do like a challenge...
Time to get out of my PJs and get my morning pages written.

Barbara if you have left over small growing pots or trays you could transplant some of your thinnings into to those and have some spares if some of your in ground die out or give to other gardeners who might be able to use them.
I have to thin my morning glory crop. There are just too many of them for the plants that are left to be successful if I leave them all. They also come up in unwanted spots. I don't try to save them. Planting zinnia seeds I do pot up and move around the ones I thin. It is hard to thin but I remind myself if I want healthy plants it is necessary. Plants need room to grow.2 -
thank you everyone for the hugs and support. Still just taking things one bit at a time.

I read a murder mystery awhile ago where the victim was a contractor and when the question was asked about who had a motive to murder him, it appeared that every client he had could be on that list.4
