Hi Guys,

I just want to make sure I am doing this right with regards to net calories. I consume roughly 2000kcal daily and according to my tracker with exercise I burn on average 3900kcal per day. Does that give me a net of 1900kcal and therefore I should lose weight?

Thanks
Matt

What tracker do you have? It sounds very generous and optimistic.

In theory you would eat those 1,900 extra calories and still lose weight. But you're almost certainly not really burning that much, and eating them all back would likely cause weight gain. You need quality estimates.

Did you try using MFP as designed and entering your stats with a reasonable rate of loss?

3900 in exercise calories does seem high depending on factors such as your height/size and what you are doing. And does that include "just functioning" calories? (we don't JUST burn calories exercising. we burn them living and breathing even a coma)

I don't think the OP is saying they burn an additional 3900 in exercise calories. I read it as their fitness tracker says that their TDEE is 3900 calories per day on average which, depending on their stats, isn't that farfetched. I'm 5'3" and 118 pounds and my TDEE is 2300 on average. OP, if you did mean it that way, then you would be having a deficit of 1900 calories per day which is a bit steep. Providing us with more information like age, weight, height, and your daily activities/exercise would help.
