Word for August is REFLECTION
The beginning of a new month seems an appropriate time to rethink goals.
Scale Goals progress:SW: 227 (Mar 2014) Worsening hip problem made weight loss imperative.
Jan 2015: 220: -7lbs; Struggled on my own to lose that 7 lbs. Joined MFP on daughter's recommendation.
UGW: 153 (losing 1 lb per week)
Sept 2015: 189:✅ -38; Had my hip replacement op.
Oct 2016: 153:✅ -75: My lowest weight in a long time. It was a really struggle losing the final few lbs.
Nov 2016: 160:🤦🏼♀️ -68: A holiday and several family celebrations later.
Feb 2017: 164:🤦🏼♀️ -64 Christmas and more celebrations!

Jan 2018: 165: 😏 Still working on discarding that last 12 lbs.
Jan 2019: 165: 😏 Still working at it.

Jake and I go to the grocery store, Costco, WalMart, Walgreens, Great Clips, Home Depot, and practically everywhere else together. We call it our "shopping date" and each event is a happy time. Neither of us has to worry about not getting the items we want because we're there and don't have to rely on the other one to get the right style/brand/flavor/color/size/etc.
It is super warm here this afternoon. I went for a walk with a friend this afternoon for an hour and couldn't wait to get home. No more afternoon walks for me until autumn, at least. Super warm here is 22 C or 72 F.
My July steps averaged over 14,000 steps. I started the month out today with over 17,000 already.

Woot! Final draft out to them upstairs of the big $100M grant application, with a little help from my friends.
Made my head hurt, rebalancing a budget that big with five elements where I couldn't go over a certain percentage. Made me a little loopy in the end, but done for now. Once I get the go-ahead, I can completely get it off my mind. Oh, who am I kidding, I already have, as soon as I hit send on that email. It's taken up so much of my brain that when we got a $50K award in this week I had to go look up the grant application (which I wrote) to remember what we told them we were going to do with their money, so I could send the thank-you letter!
Welcome Barbara in SoCal and Maureen, we're glad you're here, stop back by... we're a chatty bunch, step in where and when you choose, no pressure, no judgment.
Connie and Rebecca, thinking about you and the ones you love.
Well, just rescued a dragonfly from Egg (the cat), and the hubby just pulled in, so back to my life. Love y'all!

Barbie, Machka and Amber: Thank you for getting us set up for August. Love this community and the can-do spirit that permeates it.
Connie and Rebecca: Praying your loved ones get back to radiant good health soon, and with ease.
Got news yesterday that my little brother is coming for a visit. It's a case of good news/bad news. He is an alcoholic already diagnosed with cirrohis and pre-diabetes. His GF told me to be prepared to be shocked when I see him because he has gained so much weight. Already gearing up to repeat the serenity prayer often, and test my compassion skills. Stay tuned.
Much as I pride myself in keeping a tidy home and deck, the prospect of company kicks me into another gear. Power washed the siding outside our condo patio today. Fitbit gave me a bonus 250 calories for this...yay!
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Hi Gals,
Bananas – I get it. I am very concerned about our world and the choices made and options available. I focus on the things I can do myself. For a while on Earth day I spent money on something that would make a difference – that was how I paid for my double paned windows – I saved each year and in April I would have one more installed. And other such things. Things that would help me make a smaller foot print. Since money has been tight I have been unable to afford some of the bigger things, but still rinse and reuse bags, foil, take my own shopping bags. I read an article about how much more waste that the “fast food” drive through style food establishment create that a regular restaurant; that plus the calories have helped me kick that habit. I shop at my local 2nd hand stores for almost all my clothes and am delighted when I find the right thing…but I also try to have what I need but very little extra. I do check on the point of view of politicians and impact of laws when I vote but most of what I do is not very public.
Lisa - what the grant was for made me chuckle I know exactly what each one I write is for and was dancing a jig for a $25 one I got. I have yet to attack one over 2,000…..
Rori – What a mixed blessing. How long with brother be staying? I hope DH remembers him. He’ll be exposed to healthy eating at your house.

Hello ladies over 50. I'd like to join your group please. I've been on MFP a couple of times but haven't been here in several years. Two ladies that I work with just joined WW and they inspired me to get back to healthier eating. I've lost 6 lbs. in the last two weeks. I will be away on vacation 4 days to Maine with a couple of girlfriends starting Sunday so that's going to be my upcoming struggle. I will try to read back a few days on this thread to get an idea of how many are in the group currently. Are there any things that I should post each day or is it just for fun? I didn't see a post for August, hope I'm in the right place?? Maureen7

Surgery went well with daughter inlaw, and she is in recovery.👍. I do not know if they're keeping her overnight. Son is informing my husband as the day progresses. I think he is keeping communication down to the chosen few, so I haven't been texting or talking to him directly.
So today husband and I went to get lunch to take to our new marina park that just opened up. So husband wanted a ham and cheese croissant at a specific bakery. Then I had a wrap from Subway. So we go and have a nice lunch in the sunshine. At the end, I asked husband for the bakeries trendy box to put my 1/2 of the wrap in. We get up and go and reached for the plastic bag containing the rest of our drinks and chips. I had the used napkin and box and he took the used napkin and box. Then he promptly threw the used napkins and dang box in the trashcan! I was like, what did you just do? Communication, it only works when ya both use it. I figured because I asked to use his box to put my leftovers in, the fact that it was now not trash was implied yes? Haahaa! That was like $4 in the trash. And no, the trash cans have covers and are locked so I couldn't just reach in to get it.

Irish Terri: I love your word for July, enjoyment. Excellent choice. I also think you’ve chosen excellent goals.
Peach: Happy August backatcha!
RV Rita: Congrats n meeting your July goals. WTG!!!
Heather: What caused your bad knee? I don’t remember the details. I also have a bad knee. Mine is the left knee and I damaged in during a horseback riding lesson many years ago. My teacher was not using the thinking side of her brain when she had me posting in a circle at a trot the same direction for a whole hour. The inside knee took the punishment and I will always have this problem. The orthopedic doctor said that he wouldn’t advise surgery and sent me off with leg strengthening exercises. I found a better teacher and cope with the knee well enough. The discomfort is still noticeable but not as bad as it was at first. :ohwell:
Pip: You are beautiful!
Rebecca: I’ll send good thoughts for your DDIL. Let us know how she does after the surgery. :flowerforyou:
RV Rita: Feel better soon!
Lisa: Good luck with your grant application. I hope you end with it fully funded, or at the very least, well enough funded.
Rori: I hope that your brother turns out to be an excellent guest and you are able to enjoy some time together. :flowerforyou:
I just pulled up my bean plants and picked the remaining beans as I went along. They were planted in a u-shaped flowerbed beside our driveway. The beans are/were on the outside edge. I have blue wildflowers growing in the center of the bed that are loaded with honey bees. Seeing the bees enjoying the flowers makes me happy.

Carbon footprint 👣- I love reusable Tupperware because of that but wish mine was sectional.Saw some cheap ones but can’t rationalize buying $35worth if stuff just to get free shipping.

Holy cow. It's the first of August and we are already on page 4! No way am I catching up! I'm struggling to get on here every day at least to log my food. I feel like the chicken with its head cut off. I keep saying I'll try harder and I still don't manage! I'm also really frustrated that I have been taken phentermine for over a month now and have not lost one pound, despite having NO appetite at all. I literally get low blood sugars because I forget to eat. How is this possible?
thanks Barbie for getting us going on another month! Meg from Omaha6 -

I need to learn to accept compliments, I suck at it, always making excuses, like oh, that was a day that I didn't work or ride so my face was rested or some other reason. so I will shut up and say thank you for the comp. u are very sweet to say that ;;; as I blush ;;;;2 -
NYKaren – congrats on 4 years!
Connie – sorry to hear about your mom. My mother had breast cancer. Hope they find an appropriate protocol.
Down 3 pounds in July, hit my first goal. Hoping for two pounds this month. Focusing more on toning and strength. Still haven’t figured out final weight so I will just keep doing what I have been doing and see what my body thinks about it. I am in the upper end of healthy BMI. Have read some things that older folks shouldn’t necessarily worry about being under 25. But who knows? I mean, I don’t know from day to day if eggs are on the good list or back on the bad!
I do want to continue decluttering. It’s funny, but you make progress and then discover there is still more.

Did 2 segments of Jillian Michaels Killer Buns and Thighs DVD. Then went to Dollar General to get a knee pad and exchange the one I had for a different color. Unfortunately, their summer things are no longer on sale 50% off. I’m a bit surprised, I would have thought they’d want to clear out the summer things to make room for Halloween. Oh well….then went to Big Lots to get more Chips Ahoy for $1.10 (I can’t believe how many Jess eats), then to the farmer’s market for a Burpee Hybrid cantaloupe. Are they ever sweet.
The plan for tomorrow is to do a 30Minutes to Fitness Body Design DVD. This is a new one and I have no idea what it’s like, so we shall see.
Vince wants to go to PetSmart. We do need dry food. There are a few other things he wants to get. Then he wants to go to WalMart so on the way back we’ll stop to get gas for me. Personally, I’d like to go in the pool since they’re calling for rain later in the day. Vince has a meeting to go to this afternoon so that’s why he wants to get the shopping done earlier
Mary – thanks ever so much for information about putting the hot dogs/hamburgers in a pan to keep warm. I’m going to have to come in the house to put the cheese on them. Actually, most people will probably say that they don’t need their cheese melted.
Connie – so sorry about your mom. What horrible news!
Lisa – I should name my pounds too! They’re like a bad penny
Deb in VA – at your gs’s age, he’ll heal quickly
Barbara in SCal – welcome back!
Maureen – welcome! You’re in the absolute right place. What to post? Whatever’s on your mind. If it makes you feel better and more accountable, post goals and workouts. Share joys, sorrows, everything. Some people need to post all their workouts, that’s OK. Others don't
Rebecca – good news about DIL. So sorry about your lunch

Kim - I was thinking about checking it out on YouTube today at work. There must be something.
Connie - I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom.
Rebecca - hope they fix your daughter in law up real well.
So much more I wanted to comment on, but just don’t have the time.
I started August up 6lbs. Certainly not the right direction, but it has made me more determined to get back on track. Having company and the wedding for two weeks in July and then the exhaustion of starting my job in the middle of it threw me off kilter.
The administrator at work today asked the dietician to come up with a weight loss challenge for the staff. I hope she does it.
Off to have a bath and soak my hip.
