@spikeyhair i didn't know that about the French air space. a friend and ex-colleague sent me a mail this morning saying her flight from nyc back to paris was delayed till 3am. that must be the same cause. rough to have such a delay before a night-time transatlantic flight.0

Experience ... a whole lot of experience all in the past 18 months. I've been dealing with ALL of that and much more.
You should see my "Things To Do" list!!

Thanks Barbie!
So glad August is over. The family is home. I will feel as if I can go places again without crowds. Not so hot.
My new tablet and case has arrived, but I'm not unpacking it until I'm happy with my laptop. Too much stress. Today I'm going to copy all the stuff off the old one onto a hard drive. I've never done that before. I'm still waking up in the morning worrying about it all.
I hope to go for a run this pm. It's overdue. Running and heat don't mix well.

Barbie Thanks for the new thread and for your steadfastness.
Happy September!

You might see if you can get into a sports dr and physiotherapist.

Thanks Barbie, just finished reading the last few pages of the August thread.
I'm another early riser, DD and I used to get up early so we could walk our reactive dog Frankie before it got too busy. Now we have our lovely natured collie Leah, we have an extra half hour in bed before taking her for a walk, but we are usually up around 5:30 a.m. - 5:45 a.m. latest. I've noticed the mornings are getting a little darker, it's still quite mild though but it won't be long before I get my gloves/scarf and earmuffs out we have a light up collar for Leah too so that we can find her, she loves hiding behind lamp posts, trees, clumps of grass, anything!
We often lose her, and she won't reveal herself straight away, I'm sure she thinks it's a huge joke!
I'll definitely post before and after photo's of the kitchen. We've had a frantic few days clearing out the garage to make room for the delivery of the kitchen, it's a good thing really, because we have been meaning to clear the garage for long enough and now it's done
Well I'd better get to the shop, mum is waiting for her Sunday newspaper.
Love to all

@machka9 I was thinking sports doctor too but wondered if it weren't redundant to see sports doctor and rheumatologist. also I don't know if the GP will prescribe both. I need a prescription for P.T to go and see one. havent been to a P.T for a bout 8 years ago when I had frozen shoulder. some are totally reimbursed and many are more expensive than base rate. I need one that's totally reimbursed. medical people can choose between charging the base rate or a little higher or much higher. I'll see what recommendations the guy GP has. he seems to have pretty good network of people at base rate, and seems a bit involved, unlike the woman GP.1

@cityjaneLondon here it empties out in the summer and is full of the many people etc the rest of the year (like most capital cities).0

had lunch of omelet w onion and Chinese cabbage salad, then some GF treats after lunch : equivalent of 1 reeces cup and 2 small GF cookies. I'm happy I have had this box of small delish GF cookies (about 8 or so) for about a week and only had 2 max 3 times over the week so far. that's good temperance for me of late. I'm not usually a big cookie fan but I do very much tend to appreciate baked goods w almond powder in them.0

Good morning all! Happy Sunday of a long weekend for me/us due to Labor Day! Having three days off this weekend, allowed me to do absolutely nothing yesterday. I woke up at 5am like normal, but was able to just stay in my jammies and drink my coffee, water, tea etc. all day. I did rally about 4pm and do a little cleaning in the kitchen and marinate and grill some chicken and potatoes (the potatoes were very nice grilled. I have never grilled them before). Then, because I still have my Christmas deco up from Friday's Christmas party, I watched Scrooge (the 70s musical with Albert Finney). I slept really well last night, first night in about five nights that I haven't coughed all night.
Thank you Barbie for bringing us into September!
I lost four pounds in August! I am now down to 226!
My personal goals for September:
*Drink more water
*Eat more veg (a pound a day)
*Add an extra 30 minutes of exercise to each day (other than what I do with the kids)
*As always, log everything.
Work goals for September:
*Get the September/October calendars finished and out to families.
*Download all of my documents from the state website before they change over their computer system (in case the inevitable
glitches happen).
*Begin assessments on the kids
*Begin my childcare renewal process
Tim's mom's estate just made it through probate; so that is taking a bit of a load off for the next few months. What a relief. We will be buying our tickets to fly to TX this Tuesday or Wednesday (better deals on those days). Tim is busy paying off a couple of overdue medical bills and figuring out which debt to pay down to make the biggest dent in our monthly expenditures. As a former accountant, he is in his element figuring all of this out AND it is giving him a purpose (in his mind) and keeping him out of my hair (in my mind). I would take a big breath in relief right now, but that would cause uncontrollable coughing.
Anyway, September! New month! New school year! New beginnings! All good things! Sending love and hugs to all who need them! Today, I do my shopping, cleaning and some paperwork. Relatively easy day. Going to talk Tim into picking up dinner so I don't have to cook, though. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

thanks Barbie for setting us up
Feels like a new year every September and I will take this blank slate feeling with renewed energy to tackle what’s ahead.
First up—get walking and talking with bff our 4 mile walk on another gorgeous day here
Next up—meal prep, clothing prep and scheduling prep.
Last up—leave time for sitting on the back porch and reading a good book! Right now I’m reading Isaacsons bio of Ben Franklin.
Happy September all!

Morning, afternoon and evening,
Thank you, Barbie, once more... You're our rock!
Goal for August - go to the gym five times a week. done.
Goal for September - get my eating back under control once more, and lose the top five pounds. My trend has been inching upward for quite some time, and it's the right moment. I've got my husband on board, now it's time for my brain to wrap itself around logging again, concentrating on protein first and foremost.
While it wasn't a goal for August, dropping down to one cup of coffee a day and exercising a lot has actually improved my sleeping by leaps and bounds, . I slept for 7.5 hours Friday night and more than 8 hours last night. My average for the last few years has been between five and six hours a night.
Also lost 2.5 of the 8 pounds I'd gained over the month, just between yesterday and today, purely sweating it off. Got the entire acreage near the house mowed and trimmed... love working with my husband to make it beautiful.
This is a picture of the back of the house near the time we moved in and now... different angles, but you can see the changes, I think. This is called me, blooming where I'm planted...
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Morning Ladies
Oh what a spectacular few days and gonna make it last a few more.. having our beloved family together. My nephew who has been estranged from his dad ,because of his ex now is at almost 27 able to make his decisions based on himself not his mother's influences.. spent the whole day with us.. and it was wonderful.. dads presence was known yesteday as we tried making the peach ice cream, hand crank style and wouldn't you know even though the ice cream maker worked 2 years ago.. it wouldn't work yesterday.. dad being himself was I'm sure playing with us.. but my ingenious daughter took some of the custard and put it in a sandwich bag and then ice and rock salt in a gallon bag and we all got a taste .. bless her heart..and after that .. we each took the little urn of his ashes and said a little something and sprinkled some of his ashes where he loved to be with family and at the cottage.. we even sprinkled a little on the cover of canister of the ice cream maker and after about 1/2 hr would you know it hardened up ..lol dad was always a slick one.. I slept in until 6:15 and missed today's sunrise. But just enjoying my tea and good company..
Tom and Elena have Alfie but our older Dog Chester isn't well.. so I haven't heard from this morning and I am worried.9 -
Good morning. I've used MFP off and on for several years as I dip into and out of fitness/eating regimes. At age 74 (75 in four months) I'm trying to live the aphorism that "Life is painting a picture. Not doing a sum."
Part of that is figuring out how to be sensible and long-term about eating and fitness. Was recently diagnosed with macular degeneration in my left eye and borderline osteopenia. Both benefit from weight bearing exercise and a lot of leafy greens. Hello, kale.
We moved to Florida two years ago so summer is hot and humid. More time in the gym than outdoors. Recently restarted tennis so only doing that in the early morning.
Interested in comments about balance in life and not obsessing about numbers, on the scale or anywhere else.
Anne7 -
Welcome,Anne "balance" was my word for the year a few years ago so I did a lot of reflecting on the subject. It helped me to reflect frequently on the things in my life that were important and notice whether I was including all of them as well as making sure that I was eliminating things that weren't important. I started meditating a few years ago after reading "10% Happier" by Dan Harris. For me, the best way to not obsess about numbers is to have a plan and stick to the plan. I log my food and exercise every day and weigh myself morning and night. I do this with regularity, not in response to outside influences. My goal is to live life with the same serenity as a clock ticking in a thunderstorm.
I am 73 years old and have been using MFP and sharing on this thread since 2009, I lost the weight I wanted to lose and hit the low weight that I'd always dreamed of until three medical professionals said I should gain weight. I've had slow downs from spine surgery and a spinal compression fracture, but once again I walk a lot, dance a lot, and ride my exercise bike or lift weights while watching TV. I have two fabulous dogs who love to walk so I'm up and out of the house around 5 AM with them every day.
It is getting darker in the morning here now. I think of Machka noticing her days getting longer. I also think of all of you in the UK and parts of Canada who are farther north than I am and will experience even less daylight.
I might be the one getting this thread started, but it would be nothing without all of you who bring such wonderful sharing and support to all of us.

Good Morning & Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Super-excited because I don't work this weekend.
Usually, I work weekends, but this is my son & daughter-in-law's anniversary, & they usually need childcare. This year they made kid-inclusive plans, so I have an unexpected weekend off! I have to submit "off" requests at least 2 months in advance when they hadn't made plans yet.
So yesterday we power-washed & bleached the deck (sweaty dirty work), I mowed the lawn, and I trimmed Mabel's nails & bathed her. Then we watched "Twister", one of our old favorites. Today I think we are going to seal the deck. Depends on my partner, who has gone back to bed not feeling great. She will probably be fine after some more sleep.
Now I am getting caught up with news of Hurricane Dorian (category 5 now). Dorian is likely to devastate the Bahamas. I hope Dorian veers East & doesn't make landfall near @DamitJanit in Myrtle Beach or others along the coast.
This morning I have had a mug of Bigelow's Cinnamon Stick tea, 180g full-fat homemade Greek yogurt, and 120g raspberries. 300 calories. Yum! Tummy is happy.
For some reason, the last few months I find that I have to be really careful about what I eat. I feel too full for too long after eating. If I eat late in the evening, my sleep is disrupted by vague abdominal discomfort. But yogurt & berries are well-received!
I hope all of you have a nice holiday weekend!

Beginning of September.
Beginning of Spring.
Sunrise: 6:37 am.
Sunset: 5:45 pm .
In about 2 weeks we'll have full daylight until I get all the way home at night ... bus trip and walk! Soon my husband and I may be able to walk to the beach after work (my work) again.
And some of the temps are increasing. It got to 18C on Saturday!! It's supposed to be 16-18 for the next few days, and then back down to low teens.
