Several observational studies have found that using artificial sweeteners and drinking high amounts of diet soda is associated with an increased risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome (7Trusted Source, 8Trusted Source, 9Trusted Source, 10Trusted Source).
Scientists have suggested that diet soda may increase appetite by stimulating hunger hormones, altering sweet taste receptors and triggering dopamine responses in the brain (11Trusted Source, 12, 13Trusted Source, 14).
Because diet soft drinks have no calories, these responses may cause a higher intake of sweet or calorie-dense foods, resulting in weight gain.
Consider the likelihood that being overweight makes one more likely to drink diet soda rather than the other way around.6 -

Diet Coke has 35 mg of sodium per can. I know you said you drink way too much diet soda, but is this really a prominent contributor to your overall sodium intake that your doctor feels this is the best way to limit your sodium to a healthy level for whatever condition you’re working to manage?4 -

Coke Zero is flavored water with lots of acid some people do not want and caffeine which some people do not want -- I do realize there are about 12 different kinds of caffeinated and not caffeinated Coke now --- they really want to sell you some expensive water with phosphoric acid
Coke, all kinds, still works great to remove rust from metal
And water created the rust in the first place, so what's your point?9 -

did not know there was any significant difference
sodium is 13mg per 100ml in pepsi max- according to the can in my fridge.
I do not have any diet coke cans to compare but if anyone does, that would be interesting.
I’m Canadian so here’s our Diet Coke info,
Here’s the Coke Zero,
And here’s the Diet Pepsi which I like because it’s sweeter than those 👆 other two

I used to drink diet coke a lot - every day 1 or 2 - but started reducing it probably about 10 years ago. I would only drink it occasionally and when I ate fast food. I haven't had one at all since December or January.0

I'm not sure about your particular water source, but the the example diet sodas given above are approximately 70-100 mg/L. Water varies and averages lower, but quite a few municipal water sources and bottled waters have sodium levels that are equivalent or above the levels in diet soda. Some mineral waters are WELL above that.
