Just started this application and looking to succeed. I'am 271 pounds and my first goal is to get to under 200. I know it won't be easy.

If you haven't already, read the stickies at the top of the getting started forum. Very informative and helpful.
Buy a food scale. Weigh everything you eat and log into the food diary.

Welcome to MFP. You can do this! I started Aug 17 this year at 264.3 and I’ve already lost over 17 lbs. If you’re consistent and use this app daily, weigh and log absolutely everything you eat and drink, and ensure you have a calorie deficit, you WILL succeed.
It may feel like work to begin with but you’ll be building better eating habits and learning portion control. And remember, time is going to pass by. You can change nothing and stay as you are, or jump on the change wagon and see how far you can take it!1
