Fear of binging on candy

As I've stated throughout some of my previous post, I suffer from a binge eating problem. And since Halloween is today, I feel like I literally about to loose control. I keep telling myself that I'll be okay but.... I know that I won't be. And I'm honestly kinda scared. I'm just so tired..... :(

Do you have someone close by you that you can talk to and hang out with today? It's only one day and I'm sure they won't mind keeping you distracted with something fun.

Another option is to reserve and pre- log one or two of the little fun size candies that are your absolute favorite. Plan the rest of the day around them, calorie-wise, and really savor and enjoy them when you do finally open up that little package.

Also, enjoy your portion guilt free them when you aren’t hungry, stressed, bored, Angry, emotional, etc. This is good practice for you to reverse binge eating.

    You got this!!!!

    Where's the candy coming from?

If you've bought it to give out, toward the end of the night set the bowl out on your porch with a note that says "Take what you want." In the morning, you won't have any candy left to binge on.

What has your therapist told you to do is these situations?

If you do not have tools to arm the nonBED side of yourself you are, at best, 50/50 fighting with yourself. You need tools so that you can control it without exhausting yourself.

I have no idea what would work for you but I would log a binge's worth of candy right now. If you can eat 2 giant bags of candy I would prelog all of it. That way when the temptation arises you know what is going to happen calorie-wise if you start. If it still happens at least you have saved yourself the trouble of trying to figure it out later. If it does not you can always delete it.

I’m also a binge eater and a little will send me on a spiral so I’m not having any tonight. I bought candy I don’t like to hand out so I won’t be tempted and I just keep telling myself that I can literally have candy any time I want, I don’t NEED it tonight. I find it hard to say no to treats that I feel like I’ll be “missing out on” like home made goodies that I’ll likely not get again but candy, that I can get again when I’m emotionally strong enough to only have one. Succeeding at having no candy today will feel waaaaaay better than the candy would.

    Good luck!

If you bought it for trick or treaters perhaps put it in a bowl on the porch so it is out of the house. If you haven't bought it yet buy something you don't like. What I've been doing to stay away from store candy is tell myself if I'm going to eat chocolate make it a quality chocolate from a chocolate store so it as actually worth the calories. Sees and Rocky Mountain are near me. By the time I plan to get it I'm usually over the urge to eat it.

Have some! Within your calories. Don't deny yourself treats, if you want some work them around your calories for the day. Save some for the next day. You won't miss out.

    How’d you do?

Even if you did have some I hope you get back on track today, it’s a new day and a new month!

When it comes to BED - restriction among other reasons is usually the cause. Whether it be physical, or emotional restriction, either can cause binge eating. It's not so much a willpower issue in the case of BED as it is a biological drive.
Technically, I'm not even suppose to be using sites/ tools like MFP! Its too triggering. I would use MFP lightly and allow yourself all foods with no guilt. Food and guilt do not mix. If you deep down know you could eat limitless halloween candy, guilt free, for as long or as many days as you'd like and you'd keep replenishing....the desire would lessen and likely even diminish.
SURE you will eat a crap ton initially, but once you form this attitude around these "scary " foods the desire for them will lessen over time.
There are a lot of excellent resources available including books, podcasts and of course working with a therapist or joining an online group. You are not alone. Big hugs!

If it helps at all I know I will get biscuits or chocolates for xmas - I have told myself the very next day I am taking them to the food bank collection box in the nearest shop. That way they get something, I got something and the person giving it to me will be non the wiser and be happy that I had a gift. Win win.
